Cringeworthy furry girl from my college class goes out in public with a fursuit

You have all these weirdly specific criticisms of furry art & it feels like you have a lot of emotional investment in the subject, is all
I think there is nothing wrong about being in the furry fandom, it might be good for some people but
there is a point where someone's alter-ego becomes so strong that they start to think they are a
fox, wolf, cat, or whatever. Then I think it can be unhealthy because this obsession can harm.
If a person wants to spend their money on a fursuit I don't care but remember when you take off
the suit, your still a human. :3
Mainly I think it's one of a bunch of forms of unhealthy escapism--lots of forum/tumblr/etc roleplaying counts, Brony culture definitely does, a lot of MMORPG players, etc. People who don't want to face the real world so they create fantasy lives for themselves. Unfortunately when you have that online echo chamber of people who all agree with you that your antisocial lifestyle is like, the best thing ever, then it amplifies that behavior until you have people going around barking at people in real life and shit.
There's another dude from my college who is a gay marvel comics fan, and he just flits from one obsession to another, literally filling my facebook wall with whatever shit he's obsessing over at the moment. Also, he does erotic roleplay on his public account.
2/10 would not yiff

There is another example of an unhealthy obsession. I would say the last year of high school and
living on my own pulled me more into the real world. I still like dragons and maybe one day I'll
commission one picture but right now I can't afford it. There are bills and other real life expenses
and personally I would rather give the money to my bf or family to help them out.
Fursuits are creepy because people make the eyes concave, so it looks like they're always looking at you.
I don't mind furries at all but... Wearing a fursuit in public is something i just can't understand. What you do at your home is none of my business but those suits in general gives people the creeps. Don't they feel any shame going out public in those?

There is also the social aspect that can come out of the fandom from local meets in wherever you are, which can generally have large turn ups, depending on where you live. That was one of the main reasons I joined.
(Sorry if post is sloppy, haven't slept in 33hours)

A lot of the time people don't go out in public, very rarely will people do what is happening in the video. They are usually only worn at conventions or meets.
217. This is the point I treasure the most, as it's the most emotional link I have between me and Bolt. My talking Bolt plushie was at my side to comfort me and gave me something to cry into at about 5 o clock or so in the morning, at the hospital, when my parents announced my Grandma had passed away. I was devastated, and only the soft sound of Bolt saying, 'tell the Green-Eyed man that I will not sleep, I will not rest, until my Penny is safe from his evil clutches!' when I squeezed his paw in anguish made me calm down a little. I sort of felt safe. Know what I mean? That is a TRUE story. Don't believe me? I would NEVER make up a story like that. I'm not that sick as to lie about something like that.
That was the very last point on the list just to make you think. Think that Bolt is not just a film. I don't just love him for the fun of it. I have that mental connection between Bolt and that reassuring comfort he brings in really bad times. That's the main reason why I think I am Bolt's biggest fan. Not JUST for the merchandise. Not JUST because I watch it every night without fail. It's because he was at my side at the worst moment in my life so far, and I will never forget that.
Do you believe me now, TheHorseArtist? Do you now, MistyWolf97? Everyone that either denies me the right to be Bolt's #1 fan and stupidly, selfishly and stubbornly thinks they are themselves OR thinks I'm immature and pathetic? Do you all believe me now? Thankies for reading, because I've been wondering whether I should have told that story or not for a while now, and decided it would make you all think. So get thinking…
Holy shit, this is horrifying that someone believes this, yet fucking hilarious!
The sad thing is, she's probably a perfectly nice person, but all of this gives her a bad public image..

Haha, that's the most bizarre shit I've read in a while.
Now that I think of it, taken out of context and perceived as a statement, it's even more bizarre.

Well, the fursuits are individually designed and handmade, whereas those Vader costumes will all basically be identical except for proportions (longer leg section for tall people) and a few pieces such as the boots and helmet.

Because it is, handmade from LucasFilm
FurSuits are handmade from other people who are greedy and stupid to even design fursuits

don't even go there guld
I'm gonna share my experiences with furries. This involves going onto their forums, IRC, IM, YouTube, FA and even their conventions.
Furries are a mixed bunch, so don't let this one furry in the OP video destroy your definition of a furry in the furry fandom. You can say they are a diverse, interesting, artistic bunch. You could say they are weird, awkward but not mentally disabled. Getting a mental disablilty from being in a fandom is stupid and unrealistic. There are some who are really artistic who will destroy you in a one minute speed sketch, others will destroy you in video production and editing. There are some who are really out going, who get off their computer chairs and help out the community. Some are the service people in the community such as police officers, firefighters and paramedics. Some are in our school system, as teachers, professors, school admins and of course students. Some are behind the latest and greatest in technology such as smartphones, software, websites and the Internet. I guess you can say that they are everywhere, and they are doing things you can't do. Do things that you're not qualified to do, or do a much better job at it.
Furries in the real world are really no different from you or me. Only some do fursuiting like the one in the video since only 10 or so percent of furries actually have fursuits. Some walk out in public, most don't. They just wear them at conventions because it's fun. Those things are expensive. Sure you'd think it's a waste of money right? Well no, they have different priorities than you. You would want a new gaming computer. They might want a new fursuit or head, or even save it for a trip to a convention. I'd personally save that money for my future education, or even a new DSLR for photography and film making. We are all different in some way but we all want things. We all want the same things and different things.
Furries are weird, but the definition of weird varies from person to person. One would say not drinking coffee is weird, and vice-versa. One would say if you don't go to university you will not be successful in life. Success is another definition that varies from person to person. I've met furries that are not that weird, that are more normal that I am. I've met furries that really enjoy RP, even the sexual RP. I've met furries that do more for the community than I do. I've met furries that are probably more successful in the real world than I or some of us will ever be. I'll say they are weird. They are weird. They are unique. They are "different". I really have a hard time seeing how someone who is weird is looked down upon when each and every one of use is different in our own way. And we don't seem to look down upon each other.
Furries are creative, I don't know the exact percent but I gotta saw a lot of them are really good with being creative and artistic. Books have been written, comics have been drawn, cartoon shows have been animated. Music videos have been filmed. Films have been made. It's just another genre or specialty that is being created here. And a lot of them look really, really good. From a technical standpoint, some of their creations are really good. From the cinematography to the editing, it's just really good. As a film maker myself, I enjoy those really good videos and hope to make one in the future.
Beyond spectating their stuff on the Internet, I decided to go to a convention because I'm bound to find them there and meet them. I didn't just go to meet furries, but to meet otakus, bronies, steampunk, you name it, it was probably there. I went to Anime North 2012. Met a lot of people, took lot's of photos and videos. Met some furries, they were pretty cool. Nothing really weird. I mean I was walking with then for a few hours. One was drawing stuff the entire time on his sketchbook, really nice looking art. One had a fursuit head on. Another had a full suit but switched to a head only and then just ears and tail because of the heat. Many hugs were flying around. Furries like hugs. After the convention ended on Sunday, I saw them take everything off and go back to their normal, human lives and they headed home. I am planning on going again this year for Anime North 2013.
After more spectating and even joining some discussions and chats, I decided to go to a 100% furry convention. That's right, I actually went to a furry convention for all 3 of the days. And survived. And had a shit ton of fun. Yes, I actually enjoyed it. I took lot's of photos and videos. Hugged a lot of fursuiters and people, went through the Dealers Den, attended the main events such as the Fursuit Games, Parade, Dance Competition and Closing Ceremony. Talked to a lot of people, it's kinda like any other convention, just more specific towards the furry fandom. Yes there was the adult content such as porn in the auctions and in the dealers room. Oh well, people want it anyways. I didn't expect not to see it. What I saw was people having fun, the time of their lives enjoying the moment as much as I did. I met people from all over the world with different sexual orientations and interests. Some were gay, bi, young, old, nice, funny, weird, into BDSM among other things. It was all about enjoying yourself and having fun.
I guess from all of this experience, I can explain furries pretty well. They are like you or me. You'll never really know who's a furry. It might be the bus driver or your doctor. They are everywhere. They are only really hated from the Internet, most people would say, "Oh hey, someone's dressed up as something" to a fursuiter in public as much as anyone else would to a cosplayer. They don't care. They are not causing any harm. Would you have the guts to walk out in a costume such as that?
Furries are a mixed bunch, they are like you or me, they are everywhere, and they are happy.
Here's how it works:
There are cool people and weird people and douchefucks in pretty much every social group you could asign people to ever. There's all the furries you see on ED, then there's the fact that a hell of a lot of the money made by the conventions 'n' shit goes right to charity. Every group is a mixed bag.
