• Gender/Sex Based Bathrooms

The recent humming and haaing over gender identification has gone rather too far with people perceiving the label of a gender as a threat or discriminatory label which is if I may say, very stupid. As an assumption I would think that women would feel rather uncomfortable sharing a bathroom with men and may be intimidated or rather creeped out. Once you attempt to adhere and provide for every minority group you lose track of the majority and it pretty much goes to shit.

Individualized, privatized bathrooms. A room with a single toilet and sink with a single door. Nobody would ever complain ever, except architects and people trying to not spend money. I would actually support this too, like I said before phobia of public restrooms.

In my opinion, unisex bathrooms are bit retarded, even if you wouldn't do it, I believe, and I'm sure mostly everyone here would agree, that there will be some men that would make the women uncomfortable whether it be their own socially creepy, awkward manner of "hitting" on ladies, or just staring. Despite that, my views on the physical and physiological, I mean we could get into an infinite amount of debates about how people really "feel" like they are women or men, etc, but bottom line, in my opinion, is that it should be: Possess a dick between your legs: Men's bathroom Possess a vagina between your legs: Women's bathroom And sure there will be people saying, well that "girl" with a dick without a doubt, truly believes that "she" was born female, and even dresses female, therefore they should be accepted and allowed into the women's bathroom. What people need to understand is, is that this isn't a perfect world, we can't determine all of this and sort out perfectly who really should be allowed in a bathroom or not, based on their inner feelings, all I can see it leading to is a whole bunch of nonsense and issues, a lot of work for something we shouldn't really give a shit about. I also use this same mind set when I typed the word "she" with quotations, because again these are inner-feelings, I think it's fine if you really believe you are a woman stuck inside a man's body, but you have a dick, so just go piss in the men's bathroom. I mean really, this is a bit asinine to me, the only example I can think of is: Would you allow a cross-dressing male into a women's bathroom? I would assume no. Would you allow a "woman stuck in a man's body" (technically cross-dressing, but genuine because they really feel like a woman) into a women's bathroom? It's anyone's answer, but personally I would again say no, because the only difference is the physiological, and it seems really pointless to me to have to evaluate whether or not people are genuinely women in male bodies or just cross-dressers. Even then, who's to say perverted men, assuming we allow the ridiculous scenario I've proposed to happen, won't just cross-dress and pretend and declare that they are women in male bodies just to be in the presence of other women, I mean it's not like that is far fetched or anything, don't underestimate how crazy people are.
You make both the same: all stalls.
There is not enough money in the world you could pay me to make me piss into a standard toilet every time I'm out in public. The obnoxious splashing sounds compounded by the greater risk for missing and thus contributing to a dirtier bathroom. There are already stalls and urinals in men's bathrooms, why can we not accommodate both in a unisex bathroom?
gender-oriented bathrooms are designed to cater to physical needs, not mental ones hence urinals and condom dispensers in the men's room, tampon dispensers in the women's room if you want to fight the system or whatever all you're doing is making it a bigger hassle for yourself to do something as simple as going to the bathroom
i dont think a differing toilet sign is enough to prevent a rape. the first thing you think of when you see a male rapist in a women's toilet is not "OH GOD THEY'RE IN THE WRONG TOILET!"
Nice job thinking every man is a rapist. It's almost as retarded as Dori's. What kinds of rapist even rapes in public toilet. Also, there should gender based bathroom. It's not simple privacy issue; It's about what you want and don't want to see. The gender based bathrooms were made for a reason.
edit, my last post was more a statement. I personally think it would be cool to see naked girls in any public bathroom, I'm sure a lot of guys would agree. But in reality, it would be problematic, because of this reason alone. If a hot chick walked in a bathroom there would literally be a ton of dudes rushing in to check her out, and I'm pretty sure not every girl is comfortable giving a peep-show.

This doesn't happen. If you're talking about a locker room or something, that's different. I think they should all just have private stalls regardless of if they're unisex or not.

Most bathroom stalls that I've been in have some pretty big gaps in the dividers.
Why would you want to hear/see someone else doing their business to begin with? It's fucking weird. There's no "psychological" or "biological" oppression going on here, nor is there some sexist desire to keep sexual urges down. It's privacy. It's why we all don't just go shit in waste dumps or into the ocean where it all ends up anyway. We use water, electrical costs, building costs, building space, and janitorial costs because we want sanitation and privacy. I'm pretty happy with privacy, and if the current system of bathrooms works, why change it?
That's based on the idea that women and men need more privacy from each other than women from women / men from men.
Also, there should gender based bathroom. It's not simple privacy issue; It's about what you want and don't want to see. If it is: Do you want to prohibit homosexuals from entering their gender's bathrooms?
I think all bathrooms need as much privacy as possible. The only feasible solution to me would be to have all bathrooms be single occupancy rooms that lock, with full facilities, however, that is a logistical issue, and I feel the way rest areas are traditionally structured makes the most sense, barring total privacy.
No thanks, I don't need guys pissing on the toilet seat because they can't control their one armed bandit. (User was banned for this post ("This is not debating" - Megafan))
I support bathroom segregation of gender. Bathrooms are for the processes of your genitals, and males and females have different genitals. Therefore they should have separate bathrooms to accommodate those genitals. [editline]6th January 2013[/editline] Men's genitals are more familiar to men, and women's genitals are more familiar to women. Plus having them separated isn't really a problem. It's not discriminatory or anything.
it must be hard to make a bathroom for trans people, i mean they all go to the toilet a different way or something lol
I think the deal is that women generally find the concept of shitting in a place a man has shat, repulsive. And its far easier to just make a seperate bathroom for the women than deal with the constant bullshit that would ensue.
What has been said in this thread has basically highlighted one thing: People care far too much about what's between someone's legs. When it comes to cubicles... You're all sat in the same thing, so what does it matter who else is next door to you, or what's between their legs? Urinals are a little different because they're more open. Solution? Have urinals seperate from cubicles. Instead of seperate sex rooms, why not just have a "Cubicle" room and a "Urinal" room? As for changing rooms... Again, cubicles. If you're uncomfortable getting changed in front of someone, whether due to their sex or not, you just go into a cubicle. If people don't mind then what's the problem? Basically, a lot of problems would be solved if people just didn't give a shit about someone's biology.
Basically, a lot of problems would be solved if people just didn't give a shit about someone's biology.
But there's always going to be people who do give a shit, so we can never fully make this jump.
As a man, The mens toilets always tend to be disgusting, Usually piss on the seats and if I was a woman I wouldnt want to sit down and piss in a shared bathroom for that reason
Sounds a bit obvious to me. This isn't even a question of ethics or anything but just of pure hygiene. Also it would probably be way easier for pervs to cause trouble if bathrooms were mixed so yeah.
Please refrain from just stating your position on this issue or citing some kind of anecdote you think would follow. If nothing else, just argue on the basis of why you think the premise is good or bad without them.
To be honest and as somebody of which this is an issue quite close and dear to me, I think that bathrooms should be separated into lady-picture and boy-picture, and whichever gender you're presenting as at that moment, that's the bathroom you ought to use. Physical sex should have nothing to do with it. I'm also hugely against gender-neutral bathrooms, too, to be fair. I think they just flag anybody who uses them as being somewhere on the GID scale and that isn't helpful >.<
Why should privacy only be given to people with opposing sexes though? Further more I don't know if you realize this but women can shit just as ferociously as you can. Wow, never thought I'd say that sentence ever in my life.
Women often have conversations that they wouldn't want men to hear in their bathroom. It's really not unreasonable to have the bathrooms separated.
That's just madness! The same bathroom for both male and female, the absurdity really knows no bounds here. There are weird characters out there, that would spell out paradise for them. Is that what you really want. This would ignite a flame that cannot be extinguished. Just don't go there.
If that's supposed to be sarcasm, you're trying too hard.
The funny thing is that it ain't (NO SARCASM). I mean it when I say it (NO SARCASM). One bathroom for both genders, won't work (NO SARCASM). Hope that was CLEAR enough (no sarcasm).
erm... since using the toilet is a biological function... id say its safe to seperate bathrooms by biological proceses, so while i respect your right to believe you are a woman, if you have male biology, please do the rest of the world a favor by using the mens room
1. Transgendered people don't "believe" they are a women/man - they are. 2. Most of the world thinks that males should go in the males bathroom and females in the females bathroom. This is because of their gender. For a man who's birth sex was a women, and then to use the womens bathroom would make them feel very uncomfortable.
When I was six my mom had to make me shit in the female's bathroom to wipe my ass. True story.
