A lot of artists have problems. A lot of writers are alcoholics, a lot of actors abuse drugs, and a lot of people who draw/paint/etc. are furries.

EDIT: Further more, let me clarify. I don't look at furry porn. Hell, I despise it. It's as close as you can get to beastality and then some without some poor pooch getting screwed. But at least I know that most furries AREN'T pilfering their dogs (unless they're all lying to me) but a lot of people ask me why I consider myself a furry if I'm not jacking my cock to furry porn?
Because I've been in this fandom for over ten years now. I've made a lot of friends, and met a lot of really cool people in the fandom that aren't OMGWTF. There are people like myself who are in the fandom for the artwork and not also for the porn and sex and faggotry that comes with being a furry. I guess really what we are are simply "fans of anthropomorphic art" in a sense. I like werewolf movies, Sonic the Hedgehog is a cool guy doesn't afraid of anything, and Pepe Le Pew is the coolest cartoon character on TV, and a few of the other furs agree with me on this that the line should stop at fandom and not go into fetish.
Sadly, we're so few in number now. We used to have a group in the fandom called the Burned Furs who were tired of all the porn and such. Most of them left the fandom. AFAIK, I'm the only one left. I feel so alone now. But unlike the rest of us who just dropped ship, either out of embarrassment (a few furs actually had animating jobs and left the fandom to protect their careers) or hatred (towards the porn, mind you) I stuck around because sadly I'm still clinging to this hope that maybe just maybe someday there will be more people like me in the fandom and I won't feel so alone anymore.
Yeah, and maybe I'm a Chinese jet pilot.
