You feel good because you don't get checked out often, or maybe only a few comments here and there going "hey you look good today"
Most girls get checked out so much it starts to become an annoyance, to the point where they can't wear what they want because they'll be judged, if it's not "wow nice ass" it's "wow what a slut"
it's not the same in our society because overall men are judged based on their personality whereas women are judged based on their looks
And then it goes to the inevitable, but I'm still saying this.
Then don't wear clothes like that?
Most(all) of the women I know have to problem with this... Well simply put because they don't wear clothing that makes people (and I'm saying men because I've heard that from quite a few women) go: "wow, what a slut".
;42303968']It's not a contradiction. When we're born, we have no external influences affecting our thinking, actions, morals etc. In that state we have no differences between sexes. Were the rolemodels given to these infants identical to both sexes and were they taught to behave the same, there wouldn't really show that big of a difference because of their sex, but rather their individual differences.
Yes, I completely understand that, but things being as they are...
I'm not saying that crying isn't a natural response, it just seems forced in her video. It doesn't seem all that genuine. A video can be just as powerful without crying. I hate it when people try to add emotion to videos to make it seem more powerful.
If you actually feel an emotion, by all means express it, but don't try to add it in like an ingredient.
And as I say with most issues regarding "feminism," I don't think that this is an issue with men so much as it is with douchebags. There are plenty of men who don't whistle and call out whenever they think a woman is attractive. It's just the ignorant, stupid ones. So this "raising awareness" tactic isn't going to be the solution. I don't know exactly what is but You aren't going to change the opinion to "Women should be able to wear whatever they want so don't whistle and call at them" of all people.
Just look at issues of rascism, there is still a small percentage of people that still hold stereotypes and view other races inferior to their own. This kind of thing will never be wiped out completely, it's just unrealistic.

That's avoiding the problem, not solving it.
;42304041']That's avoiding the problem, not solving it.
I don't think that's a problem that you "solve" per se. More like a thing that solves itself overtime, akin to how women wouldn't be seen wearing pants until the beginning of the XX century. Sort of like the stance on gay marriage if you will.
I mean, I don't rea-a-ally see a viable way to solve this. (you can't just educate your children differently)

why should they not be allowed to wear clothing they like because some one else doesn't like it or because someone else thinks that by them wearing it they deserved to get raped
you might say they shouldn't care what that other person says about it but ignoring them doesn't make them go away, the problem lies within the person calling others a slut, they shouldn't be slut shaming in the first place
clothing should not dictate who a person is, a woman should be able to show her cleavage, or ass without anybody going "wow what a slut" because they're not sluts and if you think they are you only support bullying people into following your own morals

This is such an ingrained part of our social models that yes, this will take time to dissolve, but not if there isn't active work for it. For example, we can "educate" our children differently. Instead of letting them play with Action Man and fucking whatever Barbie Princesses they sell these days, we should make new role models for them to look at from the very beginning from their life. Kids absorb enormous amounts of subconscious suggestion from their environment, just changing what kind of suggestion and examples they encounter impact their adulthood by a huge margin.
We might not be able to change completely as a generation, but our kids can be guided towards a better path from the beginning. That's where it all starts, really. You can't just slap equality education into the mix when they're 15, then they've already gotten a lot of models of their own, although they might not understand them so deeply at that age. You plant the seeds of reason and kindness from the early years and nurture them throughout their growth, that's a recipe for success.

The same reason straight men don't wear flamboyant clothing - because they'd be called names.
I never even fathomed at being raped because you wear exposed clothing.
My case of point was about women getting angry because men were looking at their exposed parts, not being called names, assaulted or raped over that.
Can you please stop with that?

Yeah, but the kids that are now 15 are going to be the next parents who're going to educate their children the same way they were educated. You have to be able to persuade mature people who already have their own moral compass - that's when you've won. Same thing with what happened with gay marriage support over the last decade.

straight men shouldn't be called names for wearing flamboyant clothing either, they should be able to wear whatever they want
but the stigma isn't as large
they get angry because they are called names and get assaulted and raped over it
sure she shouldn't get angry because a man was looking at her exposed parts, but she shouldn't have to be angry in the first place

I argue that it is - go out looking like someone from the Village People and count the times you get called faggot over it. That's not my point though.
Women shouldn't get angry when men are looking at them, but they do. Being raped over it? I can't speak for the degenerates in our society - there's laws about that.
Women shouldn't get angry when men are looking at them, but they do.
There's a difference from a man staring at a woman to appreciate her looks or to give her a compliment than a man looking at a woman as much as to harass her with name-calling like calling her a slut for wearing this and that and following her around like a pervert though.
They get mad because some perv looks at her exposed legs and thinks she's a whore for doing that or constant eye stares(which is highly uncomfortable).
Um, not really.
In fact, to go along with my example - when I wear clothing that makes me feel good and a girl is "checking me out", or god forbid look at my butt, I don't think: Why are you doing this bitch, do I look like a manwhore?!
But I guess we're the same so I guess I should be thinking that?
If it's an attractive girl: "Wow, she's cute. Maybe I should get her number."
If it isn't: "WOW STOP LOOKING AT MY ASS YOU PERVERT RAPIST WOMANPIG!!"
Women shouldn't get angry when men are looking at them, but they do.
There's looking, and then there's staring...
no one howls or catcalls a dude running without a shirt on, no one considers a dude "slutty" for being scantily dressed, or beyond that puts down a guy for having a copious amount of sex
...I call them manwhores.
There's looking, and then there's staring...
There's also stalking, but again - people who do that are... Well, everyone knows the type.
While I dont know or understand people who say " dont wear those clothes because you will be raped" but I can understand people telling their daughters not to wear certain clothes because people will stare at them and try to "chat them up". That just seems like a fair warning, Its not as if the parent wants her child to be harassed but he cant exactly change society by just ignoring it and letting their teen aged daughter wear what ever they want.
Although I could see that being a solution, let a generation of kids grow up wearing what ever they want and punish kids who harass girls over it. That way it becomes normal for you to wear what you want without being judged.
I agree with her so much. And also, stop hating on her for being passionate. She has every right to be angry. It pisses me off whenever any feminist issue comes up and you get hordes of young males whining about how men have it hard to but in their own way. It's just such a stupid comparison. I think it's fairly obvious that women definitely have the much shittier end of the stick.
You're sort of right about the shittier end of the stick. They have retarded blobs on their chest, they get blood and they get to bear a child! Losers
that titles a real conversation changer
want to derail a heated argument two people are having?
blur out "I deserve to be raped"
If it's an attractive girl: "Wow, she's cute. Maybe I should get her number."
There's looking, and then there's staring...
if only people knew the difference
if a women goes "stop staring" and you aren't, just pull the gay card, it's bound to shut them up
I for one will definitely have my daughter take brazilian ji jitsu!

why is it ironic?
what's the relevance of that
she's being sexist to rapists obviously
why is it ironic?
It's not. It's a lame attempt to try and discredit her and what she's saying.
why is it ironic?
Because taking a sexy picture because you want to is the same as people following you talking about rape obviously
what's the relevance of that
its a thread about sexism and its a comic strip about sexism, id say its relevant enough
I regret opening this thread. I was looking for funny videos. Couldn't help my self, now i'm sad.

i feel like men and women just have different roles in society. and thats ok. i think that, if on the level of being a person, someone just doesnt agree and accept to these roles then they shouldn't have to. i mean, its not like a guy can just go up to another guy and say 'hey handsome' and not get punched. and yet a woman can!

And you think it's okay that the guy gets punched instead of just being told "Thanks, but sorry dude I'm not into guys."?
