I really liked that hit combos and stealth attacks seem to be upgraded so that you and Celebrimbor take down multiple targets at once, that's fucking awesome. I get that it was a promo trailer and you won't have infinite combo-streaks and whatnot, but a lot of the gameplay seemed to have a bunch of cutscenes that were a bit unecessary. [sp]My least favourite bit of Shadow of Mordor was when you unlocked Branding, getting Warchiefs and Captains on your side made the game even easier. Orcs should never have positive emotions, especially not friendship. I won't be cultivating any of that shit in my army[/sp]
Personally, this looks amazing. Potential GOTY for me personally if it turns out as good as it looks
Hella cinematic, and seems to take away a lot of player control? Hope the game doesn't launch with a downgraded version.
Alpha gameplay blatantly structured as a presentation piece doesn't accurately represent the final product. Pretty sure they did the same thing with the original when that was revealed.
This is what I was hoping they would do, let players tell their own story/adventure through the nemesis system. The first game had way too many tutorials and locked the nemesis system behind lackluster story missions, by the time you got all of the features, you where either tired of it or almost done with the game.

It's a shame the orcs, regardless of their rank, abilities, or vendettas, are still very honourable.. Choosing to fight the ranger 1v1 no matter the stakes and patiently waiting for their brethren to get slaughtered before raising their weapons themselves. Really though, there just has to be an elegant way to address this. [editline]8th March 2017[/editline]
Plus Mark Hamil orc.
I was about to check if he's actually in there... That cackling orc needed a whole bunch of clown-paint on for a VA stunt like that.

Or spam dodge but that's no fun.
I wonder how the other people in middle earth will be involved. I doubt they will want to fight alongside talion's orc army.
No way. That fucking shit trend of putting a short trailer at the beginning of the video is now spreading from movie trailers.
Putting trailers at the beginning of movie trailers? Eh?
This game is already building up to surpass the first game and I thought that game was amazing up until the last stage. If I wasn't sucked into the fortress raids and the combat, the hammy ork acting most certainly did. Whoever does the acting for them needs recognition.
Lol, it looks like they didnt expand on the actual combat much at all, which was the original games biggest flaw IMO. I mean I'm seeing the exact same combat animations from the first game. Didn't a lot of people complain about the combat making the game extremely repetitive?
Alpha. Gameplay. Besides did you see the elven wrath feature and Talion performing double executions? I hope they have a counter for riding the drake into enemy territory.
the ranger is slowly becoming Aragon

Showing a lot of stuff that is not indicative of the final product. I'm hopeful they are going to improve the combat but I'm also not going to kid myself.

We don't know if what was shown will or won't be in the game, but based on what happened with the first game, it's going to be fine. Also, it's early gameplay footage, since when do they not have an invincible character and "stuff that isn't indicative of the final product" Admittedly I'm excited for this game but I'm not sure what you're seeing that makes you think this is going to be mediocre.
If they deliver on even half this shit it's going to be fucking boss. I had so much fun in the original building up an army, I can't honestly say I remember what the story was.
Loved the first game, this looks amazing. Like Shadyface said, I hope they deliver on most of this new stuff.
the ranger is slowly becoming Aragon
he pretty much is
I want a fleshed out character arc for my partner Feral Dush(How the hell do you type Tolkien words?).
I wonder what Tolkein would think of this game.
I wonder what Tolkein would think of this game.
Let's just say his grave better be made a out of a low-friction material.
Let's just say his grave better be made a out of a low-friction material.
As mich as people say this whenever they talk about SoM, wasn't Tolkien quite supportive of people treating it like Arthurian Legend, allowing others to donate to his world and the like, as long as Christopher approved it? It just so happens the rest of the Tolkien estate aren't too happy with that idea

Is it because both of them aren't around anymore and think they can make these changes away from what Tolkien said?
Let's just say his grave better be made a out of a low-friction material.
Yup. Pretty much everything shown in the trailer and this gameplay clip, and the first game, goes against established lore, not to mention the central themes and "metaphysical" underpinnings of the Legendarium. Celebrimbor impossibly being a wraith and binding his soul to the player character, him being needed to perfect the One Ring and the ludicrous forging of a new ring of power, an armored Balrog in service of Sauron, dragons. Granted, they haven't advertised the sequel as being lore-friendly, but they did with the first game and it was really misleading.

I'm just glad we can cut limbs off. I want a nemesis that looks like the black knight from that one Monty Python movie.

It's like if you wanted to make a Star Trek game, but you thought it would be cooler if it was a Good vs Evil plot of mystical powers and energy swords.

I am a fan of LOTR and I have read the similarion and some of the other assorted extensions of lore, does it matter if the lore is "damaged" if we get a more enjoyable game out of it? I get it, conceptually, it feels a lot less "Cheap" to build your own universe from the ground up. Okay then. That is a very complex, time consuming process that can easily, easily backfire on you. I get it, we all want new and interesting takes on old IP's and have them really just go for it and make it their own thing but in the case of a game like this, this really seems like a win win for us as gamers and then as a LOTR fan, oh well obscure lore that only nerds like myself now is being tarnished, yeah I suppose that bothers me but I'd rather have a good game at the end of the day

The combat is too easily exploitable. Now, with that and seeing the only things they seemed to have focused on is the War aspect; and since we're seeing the same animations from the first game, I can only guess that they haven't really changed much of the actual COMBAT. Sure, they added drakes for you to ride, but just like the caragors they are just "have limited fun for the moment" entities; like the super star in Mario; they aren't really core to the experience. I'm just as hopeful as you man, I want the game to be good but I'm clearly seeing they just poured their attention into everything except improving upon the engine or the systems of the first game, which makes me wonder why because I remember a lot of people including myself having a problem with its incredibly basic and repetitive combat.

It has the same combat as the batman games but with enemies who are somewhat more willing to interrupt and create a bigger challenge. Yeah, fighting 30 orcs is boring, but have a singular orc boss in there and it's now fun so I don't really agree. Combat may be how you interact with stuff but it isn't the focus of the world IMO.
