Also when they are put in game their style will change to fit the game's style, or that is what I would expect.

Even if dont make the donation money, I'm still having some good fun refining a character's design.

To be honest I think we should refrain from making our character look like a social outcast/weirdo. I think it's better if the references are subtle like what krten_2x 4b did. Otherwise it's a bit too much and harder to take seriously.

Reddits character definitely is, but she was made as a joke by /v/ in a hentai character creator thing and the reference image is super bland. (I like your in-game/"small" art a lot, it's a bit anime but not blatantly so, and feels more expressive than your "full-sized" style. Kind of like why I like the art in Scott Pilgrim a lot, but definitely a different approach. Your "small" style seems a bit more subdued and more realistic too, but it doesn't mesh that well with exaggerated anime features and that's really obvious in the last image you posted.)

The first [del]325[/del] 330 did come together pretty quickly though and someone donated 100$ afterwards. Besides that: While your art is not as flashy as some other users' from a technical/impact point of view, you have good ideas for meaningful details etc. As long as you're designing what you draw you can probably post almost anywhere without worries.
