I'm looking at maybe studying in Singapore when I'm done my current program. This thread has been disappointingly unenlightening :v:
I will add a question: where do students typically live?
How is the justice system ridiculous, we have one of the best in the world.
:colbert:
just asked my dad about the gum situation and here is what he said:
"Yes its true, chewing gum is illegal in Singapore. Im assuming it still is. This actually happened when I was living there. Singapore prides itself on its cleanliness and it gives its residence there every opportunity not to litter. You cant walk 30 feet without some sort of waste disposal point. The problem with chewing gum is you can stick it anywhere.. Under a table on a wall etc.. Well the government put a breakdown in the papers one day saying it's costing us x amount of money a year to clean this up.. We have given you all the means to dispose of it properly either use the facilities we have given you or we'll take it away from you. people didn't take heed and the next year chewing gum was banned."
Finland has a really high standard of living.
I absolutely love Singapore, one of my favourite places in the world (Be sure to visit Newton Circus!)
Don't fuck with the law though, or you will get the kane.
How is the cost of living compared to America?
Singapore is actually quite cheap when it comes to living, but a bit of personal advice is that it's better to eat at the open resturants then the hotels (safer as you can watch them cook)
In general is it a good place to live?
I personally think it's great but I do because I use to spend a lot of time there with my dad
How is the Internet connection?
Never used the internet there, so I can't answer
It does seem like the kind of place that would have a corrupt police force.
And what makes you say that?
Everything you need to know about it.

Fuck Singapore. Move to Canada. That's where I'm probably going to be going when I can.
Fuck that, move to New York/Tokyo.

Your Dad is partially incorrect.
He's correct about the high degree of cleanliness ; but he's wrong about how it was banned.
The story was that some kid found a way to cripple the subway network by sticking gum between the door sensors so that the doors wouldn't close.
So gum was banned.
Nope :canada:
I'm on a 50Mbps connection in Canada. What have you been smoking?
I'm moving to Spain when I can :)

Ahh Right, thanks! I'll be sure to tell him.
Instead of moving to Singapore, go where I'm going and move off this planet. See you in Lower Earth Orbit!

what is your monthly usage?
...Just saying that moving to a "cheaper country" isn't cheap really, Because your income will be prety much same as everyone elses. Thus you wont be able to live luxury life there.
Consider saving up and staying in a cheap country, But not moving there unless your income stays the same.
Ie: save up 10 000$ and live in taiwan for a year.

The penal code and criminal laws are a bit ~derpy but that doesn't change the fact that the justice system outside of criminal law works very well.
I wish I could move to the netherlands. iirc it has the lowest crime rate in the world.

Gays are illegal in Singapore.
Sorry bro.
P.S.

My faves:
The sale of gum is prohibited.

Homosexuals are not allowed to live in the country.

Oral sex is illegal unless it is used as a form of foreplay

Pornography is illegal.

As it is considered pornographic, you may not walk around your home nude.

Failure to flush a public toilet after use may result in very hefty fines.

It is illegal to pee in an elevator.
What's with everyone saying they're moving out of the USA? Is that just their way of saying "I hate the U.S." without getting rated 'Dumb'?
