• I fucking hate Michael Cera

Not a huge fan of Cera. Generally I need someone I know to say the movie is good before I go see something with him in it.
I don't see why people hate Cera that much. Sure, he plays more or less the same role in every movie (not so with Scott Pilgrim really, seeing how is quite the douche in that one) but that isn't really unique to him or his fault. There are plenty of other great actors who play more or less the same role in way more movies than Cera has made so far, so why not complain about them?
Arrested Development: "Oh, hey guys...I'm a shy young teen, with straight-As, stuck in a dysfunctional family...I'm very naive, and my notsomuchmaybealittleattractive, cousin MaeB took me out my shell. I'm still timid at the end of the series, but I do crazy things. I even apologize immediately after I intentionally cause destruction. I know, isn't my character original? btw...I got laid. Superbad: "Oh, hey guys...I'm a shy teenager who is paired with a fat, loud, aggressive friend. I'm normally your average straight-A student who lets girls keep the pencils they borrow, but tonight, I'm gonna be bad by buying alcohol, crashing a party and getting chased by the cops. I'm a little hardened at the end of the day, but I'm still a little timid. I know, isn't my character original? btw...I got laid(well, after the credits roll) Juno: "Oh, hey guys...I'm a shy teenager who just got his girlfriend pregnant. Yeah, I didn't know I had it in me, either. My mom whips me, and I don't have the balls to be a father, that is why my girlfriend is giving the baby away. I maybe timid and passive, but I'll stand up for my girl when people make fun of her. I know, isn't my character original? btw...I got laid Youth in Revolt: "Oh, hey guys...I'm your average loser who likes smooth jazz and french classic films. Everyone in my household is getting some, except me. I have a very submissive behaviors and my mother and her boyfriends take advantage of that. I am so timid that I had to develop bipolar disorder in order to impress a girl that I like. The use of two Michael Seras demonstrates my inner struggle. That is right, in every scene, I have to appear timid, so whenever something goes wrong, you will still see a timid Michael Sera to symbolize my timid behavior. Isn't that concept original? Btw...I got laid Scott Pilgrim: "Oh, hey guys... I'm your average hipster who plays bass. Yeah, cool people play bass, like me. I think my voice cracked...I fell in love with some chick who has 7 evil exs. This is all like a comic book/video game. Wait...a nerd like me doing things a macho superhero would do? Wow, that concept is so original. Btw... I got laid Nick & Norah: I haven't watched this one, but let me take a wild guess: "Oh, hey guys, I'm your average passive guy who let's others tell him what to do. Today, I'm not going to listen to them. I'm going go out and do things you'd never expect me to do with a girl with a dark past. I get laid at the end of the film. I like his movies, but Jesus, give this guy some versatility. Why is he the same character in every movie? Put him in a war movie, and make him the private that dies whose death results in the change of characters. Worked ok for Orlando Bloom.
Being typecast doesn't mean somebody is bad at acting. Do you also hate Bruce Willis because he's always the macho, slightly sexist, sarcastic action-hero protagonist?
I thought he was quite different in Youth in Revolt, I thought it was a pretty funny movie. Also, he may play the same dude but I've liked him in all his movies but Juno and Nick and Nora.
Settle down OP. He's just one of those actors that is really well at playing a specific role and is usually cast for that role. How many movies have you seen where Bruce Willis isn't a complete badass? Or Adam Sandler isn't a sort of dumb but lovable guy with anger problems? Some actors are just cast for the same roles. Doesn't stop them being good actors.
If Cera was a woman, I would let her have my babies.
i hate him in everything except for arrested development and scott pilgrim. scott pilgrim = movie of the year
Because he's not acting. He's being himself.
so uh why is that even remotely a bad thing [editline]06:04PM[/editline] sorry michael cera is good at being typecast as the socially awkward outcast who eventually gets the girl and i'm glad you shared your opinion with me???
dont blame him for what he keeps being cast as
This, this, and more this. And people say "well he took the roles so yeah its his fault", if you were offered a role in a feelgood awkward comedy playing the same role over and over and still making money doing something thats fun and natural for you, what, you wouldnt take the role? I would try and sympathize with you guys to say I'm annoyed by the fact that hes always cast as the same character over and over but each time I see one of his movies where he's just another awkward teen, I like his movies more and more.
you may not like his films, but you have to remember that at the end of the day, he's still the one getting laid.
I agree. Most films with him in it I stop watching half way through because I get bored of his shy teen role.
You have to admit, Michael Cera's career has been very one dimensional so far. A good actor should be able to play a variety of personalities every now and then. Cera would be MUCH more interesting to me if he played a role beyond the shell of his previous roles. Slightly off topic, if you read the books, then most people would agree that they could've found a better Scott Pilgrim for the movie...
Being typecast doesn't mean somebody is bad at acting. Do you also hate Bruce Willis because he's always the macho, slightly sexist, sarcastic action-hero protagonist?
Yes. :smug:
He is one of the reasons as to why Arrested Development is so damn good along with a few other actors and the script of course but he did his part pretty damn well [editline]08:12AM[/editline] But I have to admit, yes, he can get repetitive but then we have a whole bunch of other actors who also play the same in every single movie they make, so it's nothing you should complain about because everyone else is already doing it.
OP should watch Nick and Norah, if not for Cera, then for watching the adventures of the drunk friend.
The trend of Michael Cera being typecasted will end eventually. After that he'll either disappear from cinema entirely, or we'll see a fresh and exciting face when he's finally casted as a different personality.
I reckon he played Scott Pilgrim pretty well. Despite the fact that he tends to be typecast as the awkward, shy, nerdy teenager, he pulled off a cocky, slightly badass, idiotic slacker pretty damn good.

i think most people on fp hate cera because they're the shy awkward teenager but they don't get laid like cera does in all of his movies
burn him with fire
He has to choose to play the roles he does. Once he shows that he actually can play other roles, which he can't I'm guessing, he will be called upon for other movies. But right now he's just showing that he's a one trick pony by accepting the same role over and over. Also he might have to grow up a bit, what is he 16? Yeah I'll google it right now don't tell me. It seems he broke out of his usual role by doing Scott Pilgrim, but it didn't really help him because most people hate the movie and because it's about video games and hipsters and such it's assumed he plays a shy awkward kid.

Michael Cera's career has gotten so linear(i.e. almost literally the exact same character every movie) to the point where I don't see, Scott, Nick, or any other role he plays, I just see Cera.
He has to choose to play the roles he does. Once he shows that he actually can play other roles, which he can't I'm guessing, he will be called upon for other movies. Most people who have seen it says it's one of the best movies this year. People who haven't seen it cannot count towards people hating it, thus most people love the movie. And he did break out of the role in Scott Pilgrim. I saw it twice, and the second time I noticed how well done the fight sequences was for instance. Heck, the movie was overall goddamn well made, especially when you know that none of the musical sequences was "faked". All the actors actually learned their own instruments, they sang etc. So Cera shows that he do know how to act, and he shows some real commitment to his roles. He seems like a great dude as well, looking at all the fun interviews he and the other cast did for SP. A lot of other actors are one-trick ponies as well, yet no-one bitches about them. And I think he is closer to 26 or something, and there aren't that many actors that can pull off the teenager look without making it look creepy. So of course he will get more roles like that. Suck it up and enjoy life instead of bitching about every little thing.
i think he is cool, heg ts all the chicks you know

Juno was good.
he should play in an over the top action film to change his persona a bit
Ellen Page is worse. She almost ruined Inception.
