Eve is one of those games that really interests me, but Subscription based really kills my want over my interest.
It's the best way to do it, if you go f2p then the game usually isnt worth playing because of pay to win, and if it's single purchase the game will die and doesnt get the longevity you need.
Anyways if your good at eve you can pay with ingame currency.
and please don't join brave newbies unless your idea of fun is 'spend most of your day sitting in a station waiting for a fleet that'll be wiped out by people in ships 10x as good as yours'. Even mining is fun compared to brave newbies roams. Most fun I've had in Brave Newbies was when we were in high-security and roams started from the relative safety of there. Logging in when we were in low/nullsec and hearing 'yo dont go outside someone will kill you' every goddamn day is not fun. Having to buddy up with the recently homeless TEST players didn't help at all.
I had the exact opposite experience in brave newbies.
EVE has been an immensely fun game for me.
After roughly a month in a lowsec piracy corporation after character creation, the corporation CEO managed to get in touch with an old industrial buddy of his to give me a spot in his very profitable, capital producing industry corporation. I spent over a year in said corporation learning how to fit a ship worth shit (most important skill you'll ever learn), learning the in's and out's of manufacturing, and getting some basic combat experience. My first kill was a Tengu worth over a billion in a thrasher fleet. Eventually I found myself flying with some faction warfare vets in a wormhole corporation that were clearly a cut above the rest. For some reason the CEO of the corporation didn't play along nice with the CEO of my industry corporation, and relations soured. However, I still was able to join the wormhole corporation with the blessings of both parties. :v:
Fast forward a few months later, now I have more than several cap kills under my belt, and have since been able to buy my first Battleship and Strategic Cruiser. I even got the opportunity to FC once or twice. While we're all relatively serious when the lead starts flying, we crack jokes all the time and even play games outside of EVE together. I also learned I am terrible at poker.
So here is some advice I can give to potential new players:
-Join a corporation. Doing shit by yourself is boring, and odds are you're just going to quit. If you are persistent enough, eventually you will be able to find a good fit.
-Take risks. Doing something stupid is probably the most exciting thing you can do in EVE Online, and who knows? It might just pay off.
-Go out and PvP. Seriously. Take a cheaply fitted destroyer and keep trying to kill something with it until it dies.
-Do not stick to mining. Mining is easy for new players to get stuck with since it is a relatively stable income, but it is a MASSIVE skillpoint hole, and really doesn't give you enough isk to move on to something else unless you invest lots of time and money into it.
-Avoid "shiny new drake" syndrome. Do not buy the most expensive things you can afford. They will blow up, you will lose them, and you will be shit out of luck. Invest in cheap ships where you can get blown up hundreds of times and still not give a shit.
-Do not give up. EVE can be a frustrating game, but great success comes to someone who can soldier on through the hard times and keep trying.
If you have a question about something in the game, feel free to send me a PM on Facepunch and I will tell you what I know.
Are we talking EVE stories now?
About three years ago the corp I was in was moving from high to low sec for the first time. We got a dead end system with great belts for ratting, several stations, everything. One day, we had a couple people on when a completely unknown character in a T2 frig warps in blows up a mining barge that someone blue to our alliance was using. Cue jumping around like mad, at least 3 people scanning and 4 attempting to pursue. We finally caught the guy on one of our stations trying to dock...just as his aggression timer ran out and his backup showed up. We opened fire, and everyone who wasn't killed by the station guns was killed by his backup. It would have been tragic if it wasn't so ridiculous :v:
EVE is really just Ultima Online in space. If you're interested in "EVE stories" but can't get into EVE because of space/being too time consuming, there are a bunch of sandbox titles coming out and you can easily log onto UOForever and get a similar experience right now.
The only time I might advise getting an expensive ship is with the SoE ones if you can properly fit them. If you fit an astero right it can be a goddamn slippery little devil. Plus if you are good-ish you can probably make up the cost of your ship pretty soon, and you might not even need to leave high-sec.
They are expensive but they are also good
I used my Stratios to kill a gatecamp. Two dumbasses tried to camp and kill me with a Sabre and Caracal, I fucked their shit up hardcore. Helped that they were horribad at the game and couldn't escape their own warp bubble but w/e their fault
tengoo corp best corp
Blitzkrieg or Concordiat? If you're an absolute newb Brave Newbies the way to go. If you can fly a few T2 hulls or battleships (competently) that are used in Nullsec we can take you.
If it was blitzkrieg you shit wasn't taken but our land has been abandoned and reclaimed by who the fuck knows.
Ah yes Concordiat. Not a terrible corp, I just hated the long ass grind. Again i have no idea if my shit was taken as I have not paid for a subscription in 6 or so months.
As somebody who's never played EVE I've got a few questions
what happened at 2:30, i'm guessing they warped into an ambush and that bubble is an anti-escape bubble?
interesting that they're laughing even as their ships are turned into debris almost instantly
what was that big green beam off the titan?
what the hell happened at 3:09, some sort of AOE missle attack? looked like they took down a tonne of ships
I want to re-sub
but my life will just slip away
and a month will go so damn fast

At 2:30 a bunch of dudes were using smartbombs, aka AOE bombs that cause damage around the ship.
Get enough dudes together with the more powerful ones and you'll explode before you even realise what just happened.
they also warped into a bubble that prevents warping out
they mention rooks n kings who iirc is a corp who are well known for doing exactly that, luring a fleet into an inescapable zone then blowing em up. Pipebombing or something

The Titan was using it's doomsday device, Aurora Ominae to fuck shit up.
3:09 are stealth bombers launching their bombs.
EVE seems so fucking cool for those moments, but my problem is I don't wanna invest many many hours to get those few moments. For some people the investment means you have more stake in the game, but I can't invest that much time.
If you guys a looking for a game which delivers on crazy unexpected multiplayer moments, Sub Rosa is fucking brilliant. Pretty much every 5 min game has surprising, tense moments.
The problem with this is that EVE's thing is that you treasure those moments because of the hours of monotony and menial tasks while getting ready for them. I'm not a big EVE player but I sunk like 300 hours on the DayZ mod, and it was more or less the same: a raid or a car trip or meeting with unfriendlies while scavenging with a group was intense, lasted a short time, but made the hours of sneaking around or running up and down the map so very worth it.

2:30, they jumped into a fleet of smartbombing Rokhs. The big green beam is the Aurora Ominae, aka the Gallente Titan's doomsday weapon. It's a single-point attack that deals massive damage, and can only be used by titans.
3:09 was all the stealth bombers firing their bombs. They are an unguided AOE weapon which detonates once it reaches 30KM. Basically, you just run at the target in a straight line, drop the bomb, and dart off before you enter the killzone (if you don't you will incur damage from your own bombs).

I remember taking out a 500m isk Tengu in a hurriedly-fitted Hurricane with a 50-man fleet after a few weeks into nullsec and it was amazing
what kinda language you speakin' god dammit
is that some kind of new age lingo them kids are coming up with?
In all seriousness though, I remember playing EVE when I was around 10 or so. I was too little to wrap my head around it so I ended up getting too confused and quitting. The soundtrack was AMAZING as far as I could remember though. It was a really immersive experience, too. Flying my ship to some ambient, soft music in a seemingly huge environment.
I sold 1 PLEX in jita for around 950 million ISK and I should be set for the next 5 months lol.
I think CCP has something to do with the increase in value of PLEX over the past few months, its nice just to be able to play now and not spend countless hours mining rocks in low sec and dodging pirates.

90% of it is inflation caused by speculation. Every year they've been steadily rising. This latest jump is a bit odd though. 2009 they were 300mil, by 2010 they were 500mil, and since then they've been slowly rising and now they're damn near 1bil.

besides wrong names you pretty much nailed it. The beam off the titan was a doomsday. Basically, wiping your dick all over the other ship. Though it makes the titan super vulnerable afterwards.
I remember trying to play this game.
To me its just a glorified spreadsheet with a 3d eye-candy interface. It's not even a game to me, because it requires no skill from the player, maneuvering is entirely automated, weapons are entirely automated and don't require you to aim at all.
The concept was appealing to me but the way it was executed completely ruined it for me. I wasn't entertained at all, not worth the overpriced subscription fee in my opinion.
The video did make it seem like a fun game thouigh. I just don't get how the guys can get so excited over the combat.
To be fair the RnK tactic can be pretty easily avoided. If your +1 sees a neut in system but has nv then you just warp in two groups. This way the first group, which should consist of cheap tackle and shit of that nature gets ganked you still have your main fleet.
[editline]22nd November 2014[/editline]
Not only that, they can only do it if they have a titan nearby to bridge and it probably only works in large systems unless they use drag bubbles.
But if you warp your fleet into a drag bubble then you deserve to lose the fleet.

I'm assuming you only fought AI in missions. PvP combat is nothing like that and if you rely on the automated maneuvering you're liable to get popped.
People that refer this game as spreadsheet in space are ignorant and dumb
[editline]23rd November 2014[/editline]
You can call Battlefield 4 spreadsheet with guns as well if you ask certain FP member
Honestly you'll never see a spreadsheet in your eve career if you go straight PVP (AKA the fun part of the game)

PVP combat relies heavily on managing transversal velocity. It's way more than just "click to go here" or selecting to orbit at your optimal range. The reason those guys got so excited is because those kinds of attacks take a lot of planning, and one wrong move from someone or some misinformation can completely turn the tables.
As an example, I once went hunting for some guy who spent most of his time in wormhole space. He was an annoying kid and one of my previous corpmates from back when I first started told me that it'd be funny if I just blew his shit up. Since he spent most of his time in wormhole space, the only way I could ever get a handle on his location was when he was in known space. Every couple of hours when I was online I'd run a locator on him. One day, I found him. My corpmate and I got our stealth bombers and booked it. It was about 30 jumps, and thankfully, when we arrived, he hadn't moved anywhere.
From there we tailed him for another 15 or so jumps and probed out the next wormhole entrance he was headed to. The tailing process was cumbersome, because there were many systems we passed through with multiple stargates that our target could have warped to, so in those situations I'd head for one and my corpmate would go for another.
We headed into the wormhole, tailed him to a site, and waited. He was fighting Sleepers, so we just sat and waited until it looked like his ship was in a condition that would be incapable of fighting back due to the necessity of multitasking. We found our window, and we struck. We opened up with a massive torpedo barrage, hit the distance mark and let the bombs drop, but we weren't anticipating that he'd have backup. Another ship came warping in, and we were promptly destroyed.
It was a very fun experience. We almost had him too. He had about 20% armor left, but his backup showed up just in time, and we were locked and too close to move the hell away and cloak up.

it sounds to me like you played eve expecting to be handed content.
eve is a game where you need to work for it. -you- need to go into lowsec and look for someone to shoot at.
did you even join a corp?
there's no aiming and maneuvering no, but there's skills, tactics, and general knowledge you need to master

Because I was an idiot and made a character representing my real life gender I got bombed with attention when I asked for help in the help channel.
