Because I was an idiot and made a character representing my real life gender I got bombed with attention when I asked for help in the help channel. Like everyone wanted me to join their corp, just because I am a chick. So I decided to join a corp, but it didn't really make things more exciting for me.
kek, you're lying. [editline]23rd November 2014[/editline] i can assure you that in no way or form would you be targeted for having a female avatar. shit, even being a female on comms isn't that unusual. [editline]23rd November 2014[/editline] eve if male dominated yeah, and i'd guess a about a third of avatars are women. your in demand 'cause your a newbie, and newbies are the lifeblood of a game that's mostly populated by hard core players.
The problem with this is that EVE's thing is that you treasure those moments because of the hours of monotony and menial tasks while getting ready for them. I'm not a big EVE player but I sunk like 300 hours on the DayZ mod, and it was more or less the same: a raid or a car trip or meeting with unfriendlies while scavenging with a group was intense, lasted a short time, but made the hours of sneaking around or running up and down the map so very worth it.
Although there are some parallels between DayZ and EvE in that regard. In DayZ you can spend hours trying to get good gear to increase your chances of winning an engagement, or you can go looking for a fight with a lee enfield you found within the first five minutes. So too in EvE can you spend tons of time getting a really nice fit, so that when the time comes you will win, or you can fit a cheapo destroyer and go PvP right away.
I remember trying to play this game. To me its just a glorified spreadsheet with a 3d eye-candy interface. It's not even a game to me, because it requires no skill from the player, maneuvering is entirely automated, weapons are entirely automated and don't require you to aim at all. The concept was appealing to me but the way it was executed completely ruined it for me. I wasn't entertained at all, not worth the overpriced subscription fee in my opinion. The video did make it seem like a fun game thouigh. I just don't get how the guys can get so excited over the combat.
Eve isnt about short intense combat where you control every aspect of your avatar, its more about the longer drawn out things, and then sometimes a pretty fast paced skirmish. EvE thrives on tension, like when you are an explorer in lowsec with valuble cargo and some pirate has been tailing you for a few jumps, or during the time leading up to a large fleet action. A lot of it is the moments leading up to the action instead of the action itself. The skill in EvE is in managing your entire enterprise, your ship fittings, the connections you build, and to some degree your combat strategy. Depending on what you do EvE can require a whole lot of skill. It isnt all lock target, click button, get a kill, next target (unless you do nothing but that)
my issue with combat is that really epic large scale stuff (the stuff that non-eve websites talk about) is a big clusterfuck of ships moving so slowly it takes half an hour for a laser to fire because of EVE's time-dilation system. Solo stuff, on the other hand, is very fiddly. thats why small group combat is best
EVE is pretty fucking cool, to bad I'm poor as hell or I would totally subscribe. I enjoyed the stuff I tried in the trial. If you try it, you will quickly learn that this is no 'glorified spreadsheet simulator'.
http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/quick-give-me-manual-control/
God help me, I might just join since that is a thing.
Because I was an idiot and made a character representing my real life gender I got bombed with attention when I asked for help in the help channel. The CEO of the corp I'm in is a woman and receives no hassling. Some corps like taking the approach of recruiting bottom-of-the-barrel new players and training them up so they're completely loyal.
We should form up our own corp / alliance for all those on fp looking to get into eve but are not able to form up with anyone else.

not bold enough
There is no official FP corp but there are quite a few FP members in Blitzkrieg, attitude in the corp and how we do shit is similar to fp shenanigans, you'd fit in fine. Also we do have girls in the corp and they are just as capable as flinging insults and shit as the dudes, its great. Lastly, you really do have to find all your own content. If you sit mining or missioning all day you will get bored as hell. If you move to null, you'll spend 90% of your time bored out of your mind with 10% absolutely heart-pounding adrenaline pumping OH SHITFUCK as you fly battleships in 2000 man fleets. You may pee a little in 1000 of those people yellowbox you. rip And if you can't giggle after losing your ship to a smartbomb get out
I really want to get into eve, but then again, monthly subscription 0/10
I really want to get into eve, but then again, monthly subscription 0/10
Getting enough money for a PLEX within the 21 day trial is difficult but entirely possible. Either scam people, do exploration, or trade intelligently.
I really want to get into eve, but then again, monthly subscription 0/10
unlike most other games, your game is running 23/7/365, since you're training skills, waiting for market orders, waiting on construction, etc. so unless you have literally nothing queued, you aren't wasting time/money.
unlike most other games, your game is running 23/7/365, since you're training skills, waiting for market orders, waiting on construction, etc. so unless you have literally nothing queued, you aren't wasting time/money.
Training, waiting and waiting? Is this game mostly about grinding and waiting for things?
Training, waiting and waiting? Is this game mostly about grinding and waiting for things?
skills train in the background without you doing anything. They're time based.
I really want to get into eve, but then again, monthly subscription 0/10
I'd rather pay a monthly fee than deal with pay to win bullshit.
I'd rather pay a monthly fee than deal with pay to win bullshit.
I'd rather pay a one time payment
Training, waiting and waiting? Is this game mostly about grinding and waiting for things?
Depends on how you approach it, but these things happen in the background while you are doing other things. If you mine or run missions and nothing else, you are probably going to get bored fast. On the other hand, the most fun I have ever had in EVE was when I bought a shit ton of cheap ass frigates and lost them all in small group pvp, or when me and some corpmates were just fucking around shooting and bumping each other in the middle of nowhere. Also, I am so excited for keyboard controls, definitely going to resub over break.
the developers don't charge for new game content
Training, waiting and waiting? Is this game mostly about grinding and waiting for things?
that's not what I said nor implied. [editline]23rd November 2014[/editline] i mean you could turn it into that if you're used to having shit handed to you like you seem.
I really want to get into eve, but then again, monthly subscription 0/10
It's $14.99 a month, that's 1/8th less than what your average person pays for a cell phone bill. EVE isn't a game meant for NEETs, so you should probably go find an actual job and quit relying on your parents to buy everything for you.
I'd rather pay a one time payment
How would that be possible for an MMO?
How would that be possible for an MMO?
Ask ArenaNet. Honestly if a sub is needed to maintain the purity of Eve's economy then so be it. But buy to play is very feasible for an average MMO.
Eve is far for an average MMO. They don't even charge you for expansion packs (which the release pretty regularly)
and even though they're on a 6 week release cycle the expansions have gotten even bigger lately all hail ccp seagull
and even though they're on a 6 week release cycle the expansions have gotten even bigger lately all hail ccp seagull
those expansion packs have been bomb as fuck lately. They're really shaking up up everything.
