Agreed. If I'm riding my bike, I don't want to have to reach in my pocket to check the time.
Some of my professor's have strict no-phone rules in the classroom, too. And my phone isn't always in my pocket, like when I'm in the shower or in pajamas.
You shower with your watch on?
I have a Sekonda I got a few years ago as a birthday present. The face is now chipped in the bottom left after I hit it off of something at work a few months ago. Still works though.
Looks pretty much like this, the date thing comes in handy at my work

Yup.
Yup.
For mechanical watches that's a really bad habit, digital doesn't matter as much.

Until you get down to it and you take their eye out
You could become a businessman, work extremely hard at your job, finally rise to the top position of CEO and get A FREE ROLEX.
or go to wal-mart and buy a cheap-o, your choice.
Okay so I don't appreciate overly expensive tools that do nothing but tell everyone "look at me im rich"
If you had three thousand dollars you would spend it on a watch that serves the exact same purpose as your already 400 dollar watch? That is kind of stupid. You could buy three ipads or an awesome gaming PC and both of them have a clock plus TONS of other features.
I do not own a watch, I carry around my 300 dollar Ipod so I can play games, listen to music, look at the time if I have to, and utilize hundreds of apps that I can download that would serve thousands of different situations. Yet your 400 dollar watch tells you the time and... looks good. My Ipod also looks good with this case I got, plus if someone steals it they can't even use it since I have a 8 character password while if someone somehow steals your watch, you are fucked.
Watches are like the only accessory men can have so they're as important to us as jewelry is to women.
It doesn't just say "look I'm rich"
If someone wears a a simple yet unique watch, you can tell they're a laid back but interesting type of person.
If someone wears an eccentric big watch with some flair, you can tell they're probably a fun person to be around and most probably an extrovert.
If someone wears some refined, classy, and not very brash, then you can assume they're an intellectual.
etc. etc.
Clothing obviously matters too.
If you wear straight cut jeans and a sloppy tshirt with a GShock you're probably kinda nerdy and not at all fashion conscious.
People will see your watch and make assumptions based upon it. It's just how it works.
A watch is an extension of a man, much like jewelry and makeup are an extension of a woman. I guess by JCDenton's logic I shouldn't buy a woman a $1800 diamond necklace from a well-known jewelry store when I can get a diamond necklace at Walmart for $50. Not to mention saving yourself the extra 2 seconds and looking fucking classy at the same time are more than worth the price.
I am surprised that the OP hasn't gotten spammed with clocks.
There's this one brand of watch that lasts for fucking forever. I think I might go find mine in a minute.

Nice watch. Let's hang out sometime.
Yeah, I have a first and second gen iPod touch, granted the first gen was for payment owed but still, I'm looking into selling my iPods and getting a 4th gen which will of course be outdated in September. I have 4-5 really nice watches that will last 10 years minimum.
Are you a watch salesman? Because you sound like one. And if you judge someone by their watch then you're very shallow and materialistic.
I wish, I might be able to get discounts.
Also, I don't, I'm just realistic.

Also anti-watch people, here's an example;
James Bond would just look odd with his Omega Seamaster on.
Thread needs more skeleton dial watches. Simple, fairly cheap for a quality watch - ~$200 area - and incredibly mesmerizing.

And the holy grail of all mechanical watch mechanisms: the tourbillion.

Tourbillions are so hard to make that even production quality tourbillion watches will cost you at least $1,500. A decent tourbillion will run you over $50,000. Why?

On topic with watches do you guys prefer analogue or digital
Function: digital
Style: analog
[editline]14th February 2011[/editline]
I prefer analog of the two.
I got this watch for my birthday this year, it's simple, not too flashy, but has a unique look to it that you won't find anywhere elce.

They also have some other cool watches, all/most of them range around $100-300. I would give the site a lookover if your interested in a watch.
Oh fuck I was looking at that just a minute ago.

Every skeleton watch you can get here is extremely flashy and gold. :smith:
I'd like one of those skeleton watches where there's only a part revealed, but those are really hard to get.

Admittedly yeah, those are a tad more for occasions or at least business casual, but the pics amazon provides are kinda shitty. Most of those are actually rose gold or copper and look much more modest in real life.
Stuhrling Original has the biggest selection of automatic skeleton dials from what I know.

All of your watches mean nothing compared to this.
The question I get most while wearing it is "Does that change?". That's because the display is so high quality that people think that it is static. E-ink is awesome like that.
It also lasts over a year on a battery, so no worries on that.
