They're quite a bit more than something that tells the time. A good watch will make or break an outfit, and it's a symbol of wealth and status.

for example in most classes i canʻt pull out my phone so itʻs nice to have a watch to know the time.

Agreed. If I'm riding my bike, I don't want to have to reach in my pocket to check the time.
Some of my professor's have strict no-phone rules in the classroom, too. And my phone isn't [I]always[/I] in my pocket, like when I'm in the shower or in pajamas.
