a lot of those instruments are not actually him playing. his drumkit in particular is not mic'd properly at all for the sound he's getting out of it, and a lot of the instruments, particularly the "clapping" is clearly sampled.
my knowledge of that is somewhat rudimentary, but he doesn't even have his snare or kick mic'd. if anyone can prove me wrong please do so

yeah most of that is sampled. for that sort of drum sound you should be using around 6 microphones
still though, what's not sampled is pretty well done. I can't play drums too well either so I can't really criticize him on that

I think he's actually using ddrum for the drums which is still cheating as far as recording goes but it is arguably actual playing.

As a drum player, I can at least attest that he does play it right for what sound is coming out, but it's possible he's sampling, yeah. Then again, if he did, I wonder why he didnt sample the "correct" snare for the VC intro.
I dont know why but the slightly wrong notes in those covers ALWAYS annoy me to no end.
The wah wah riff wasn't like the original and the westcoast lead had one wrong note.
lcs and sa had the best intro songs by far imo.
