I wonder how he played games. :raise:
With sounds...
Some 4 year old can do this as well:

They say he is the only person who can do that. There is a whole school dedicated to teaching blind people to do it.

And yet no one can navigate so perfectly in real environments.
Fookin' black magic.

He died. That's really sad
:saddowns:
Whoah poor boy. That's what blind people can do, "see" with sounds but that boy..god I could never imagine a blind person doing that with a bicycle.
I agree
'nit nit nit nit'
When his mum was describing the ocean to him, it made me sad :(
RIP
I do agree with everyone on the terms that such a remarkable person has to die, Imagine if he would be able to train this ability he has and be able to perfect it and teach it to others. There would be no more blindness. The world could have evolved around this man, but sadly all good things must come to an end, even thou this was too early for him :/

You can't just teach something like that.
You think he spent a year of intensive training of developing his ability? I think not.
That must have been a really hard choice for the kid...to have the say to remove your son's eyes or keep trying to save them.
R.I.P.
It's not that special being able to echolocate like a dolphin or a bat.
Also this isn't some miracle or anything like that. He taught himself to visualize his surrounding environment around him using only sounds, or more specifically, clicks.

It's like teaching somebody how to breath...you can't.
Oh, he died.
A lot of blind people do this, just not as effectively

I already can even though it may seem useless considering I have vision. But even for us humans it's not even close to what a dolphin or bat can do with it.

But hey, it does have its uses for people who can see absolutely fine. Like walking in the pitch black or swimming without goggles.
really hit me hard when he realized he couldn't see anymore (with his eyes, at least). Just imagine how the mom must have felt right before the surgery knowing that the last setting Ben would see was probably the hospital. :(

have some damn faith in the human race. Miracles do happen sometimes.
science!
reminds me of a blind guy who beat legend of zelda ocarina of time.

I watched this at school last week :|

Why do good people die but Glenn Beck is allowed to live?
