Just tried to see how much it'd be for me to go on my parents insurance on the Impreza 1.8L and it's £2100, £1000+ less than on a 1.6L Fiesta, what.
I'm 18, paying £2100 for third party fire & theft on a 1.2 Clio. I waited a month after passing for my 18th birthday which helped reduce the quote.
I've got to insure a Kia Pro C'eed '09 in a few months, I'll be 18 and held my licence for about half a year plus so this'll be interesting! Probably going for LV, anyone know of cheaper insurance providers?
Jesus fucking christ I didn't even realize auto insurance was that expensive in the UK. I hope it's better here in America. I think I might as well just have no insurance with costs like that. lol

Isle of Man insurance seems okay compared to this! I pay £1000 to insure myself only as the named driver on my 1.5 Mazda 323f for a whole year and I'm 20 years old. Also, de-restriction zones on the Isle of Man mean you can legally go as fast as your car can go.

New brakes for my car soon. Do you think it's worth changing the rear drums to discs? My fronts are discs currently. Is it worth the money? Oh and i assume changing from standard brakes won't invalidate your insurance. Because thats just silly.
What the hell, I had a Mk1 1.8 Focus when I was 18 and paid much less for fully-comprehensive - Think it was around the £1100ish mark. (No pass-plus.) It's not worth the money, just buy a Focus with read disks. Better still, get a Mondeo - My Mondeo's rear disks are larger than my old Focus' front disks were.
holy shit £5800? what car do you have? i have a vauxhall corsa 2002 sxi and my first year was £1500 thrid party fire and theft, but thats ridiculous. www.confused.com [editline]24th February 2011[/editline] i must admit though i had to do a first aid course in birmingham, its such a shithole. i was in a place called yardley im surprised i didnt get stabbed.
I get insured with my dad for about £1k fully comp on a 99 Vauxhall Astra 1.6. No claims bonus doesn't count with this sadly. Insurance quotes I did on motorbikes were really expensive too. Shame.
. Insurance quotes I did on motorbikes were really expensive too. Shame.
What quotes did you get? I could get fully comp on a bike for about £550 with one years no claims bonus.
It's been this way for ages. I've been watching the prices with a friend of mine for about 2 years now and it's only going up. Luckily he's a massive car geek and has found MIRACULOUSLY a way of getting a roughly £1000 quote. Sadly, he would need to drive a Dihatsu Sirion... Personally £1000 is just far too much. I have uni to pay for soon and that certainly isn't getting any cheaper over here. I just don't get how they're allowed to keep doing this. A lot of people don't need a car but many do. It takes me an hour and a half to get to work when there's no delays (Never seen a bus on time so you can guess how often that happens) where as when I get a lift it takes just 20 mins max. This friend of mine works more than the legal 12 hours per week for a full time student. he's always at work, never coming out and never spending more than £3 when he needs to. He's been doing this for 6 months now. A few weeks back someone at my sixth form got their car as soon as they passed. pretty decent one too. He wheel-spinned twice to show off when he gave me a lift once. His parents paid for it. Fair system you've got there.

On my 17th birthday, my brother gave me a 'starter' drivers kit, with all these accessories to learn to drive. With this, my dad checked with the AA to see how much it would cost to add me to his insurance. £1000 PER MONTH. Thats £12,000 a year, for a Ford Escort Diesel (Unsure what size, 1.2 I think? Or even 1.6, can't even remember now.) It was obvious that I wasn't going to get insured any time soon.
I get £800 on a 1.0 @ 69hp You are all insurance n00bs

I once phoned my insurance company to switch policies. We got into a conversation about highest insurance prices. He said the highest quote he had heard of was £69,000! :psypop:
And I almost shit myself when I was quoted £1200 a year for all cars available, but £5800 is mad. You guys got full covering insurances? That's a real pricer. Also try with something inexpensive, like a Fiat Uno or Toyota Corolla.
Think i will pass on that i havnt heard good things about wolverhampton. im at De Monfort uni.
Neither had I before I came here but it is actually not bad, has it's bad areas like any other city but the centre seems fine even when inebriated
I get £800 on a 1.0 @ 69hp You are all insurance n00bs
who would want to drive this
who would want to drive this
i really wouldnt care if i was commuting to college/work place
£3k+ quotes are pretty much commonplace for 17/18 year old drivers now. I got my 2003 Fiat Punto 1.2 insured last October, cost £3900. This was the absolute cheapest (was actually a quote I got a couple months prior that was luckily still valid). If you live in a bad postcode, like myself, there really isn't much you can do to avoid it. You could get added as a named driver on a parents policy, but technically speaking if you drive the car more than they do it's called fronting, and it's illegal. You can thank the personal injury claim culture and the people trying to scam insurance companies.
Your choice in car and engine size is not helping At the end of the day you're first car is just getting you on the road, it should not be a pussy wagon because you won't be able to afford the cost in the long run, the sooner you start looking at less desirable cars like the Ford Ka the sooner you're gonna start getting quotes that are still fucking insane but more viable.
wow, thats expenisve! I pay 883 euros (754 pounds) a year for my Peugeot 206 1.4. I am 20 years of age, got my drivers license 15 months ago.
To renew my insurance today (UK) on a 2004 Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCI I'd pay £768.95 fully comp. I've been driving for 3 years (and 3 years NCB) since I was 17. A year or two ago I'd never have guessed it go anywhere near that low for me for years Fairly recently after I passed my test I pretty much wrote off a van, who attempted to overtake me while I was turning right off a road. The bastards in the van lied through their teeth and the best I ended up with was 50/50 blame, luckily I had protected NCB and It hasn't affected my insurance much.

Pro-tip for lowering your car insurance in the UK - add an experienced low risk (no accidents or none for a long time) driver as a named driver on your policy, especially good with the elderly - my mate added his nan and put his quote down from £1500 to £800
Got a £1000 quote on a Corsa on Admiral, although I've had quotes as high as £7000.
