Been lurking the forums for a while and thought I would finally chime in on this one. I've actually consulted a couple of lawyers on these unleashed dog attacks (as a few dogs roam our neighborhood without their owners.. a couple of which show aggressive behavior) and what legal ground I would have if one attacked one of our dogs or me or what would happen if I took down an attacking dog and the reality of the situation here is that most states in the US have a "1 bite" law. I say BS to this because it's clear that one bite from a pitt will do a lot more damage than a bite from a poodle or yorkie or whatever. Usually a judge will let the owner keep the dog but pay for vet bills. 2nd time it happens though, usually whoever gets attacked has the choice to put the animal down or have it removed from the owner's custody and put into a shelter. If it were me in that situation man I'd have probably had to have someone stop me from seriously hurting the other dog but if what you say is true about her dog also attacking someone's terrier, I would try and find out who that owner was, have them also go to the police and that should be all that's needed to legally take the dog away from someone who clearly has no control over that animal. Also, mojo sent for you and your dog. I'd be a wreck if it were me.

What you should've done was kick her dog. If it showed agressive behavior against you, then you could kill it in self defence.
