Wow, I can't believe I actually liked it. If she made more like this, I wouldn't mind. It almost reminds me of a song that would be in a film about the Old West.
Considering it's a Dolly Parton song; I would personally expect it to have that slight Old West country feel to it. Not too bad of a cover, she's definitely showing a bit more of her powerful voice that her poppy crap lacks. I'll still stick with Parton's version, though.
Lipsync criticism has mostly been phased out, as far as I can tell.
Unless you're singing the National Anthem, mind you... Haha
Well no shit it's pre-recorded, its a music video, not a live performance.
How am I supposed gain a new appreciation for a singer when they cover a song and release it after it has been pumped through a studio?

Are you saying that there's something bad about making an in-studio cover?
didnt she had a punkish haircut?
This is definitely her style, not this trash:

Why would you respect her more now for pre recording a song having it edited and lip syncing.. Oh wow she's so creditable now.
IF someone is going to make millions via singing. They should sing EVERYTHING LIVE. You wouldn't see a brick layer going to work with a pre built wall would you.
Their job is singing.. not pretending

What's wrong with recording in a studio?
Are you saying that there's something bad about making an in-studio cover?
No, I just don't think It's special in any way and certainly does not elevate my opinion or appreciation.

What's more impressive, hearing this recorded or hearing it live? C'mon, she is outside, you'd expect to hear her voice and the instruments in one take. Each part here would have been recorded separately then carefully mastered to sound the best they can make it.
I can even see cuts in the video that don't match up, so they've clearly spent time creating this. The only thing impressive is the original song which she and any of the people involved in making this had nothing to do with. It's a copy paste wrapped in plastic.

Fair enough. I do respect her for taking the time to make her own version of another song that she enjoys.

Nothing. The wrong here is people taking it as "Miley Cyrus Changing".
She's a product.
Everything about the video, from her haircut, over her clothes, the musicians and the song and especially the cinematography, everything is produced to cater to the more "off-mainstream" crowd and certainly NOT a result of "her" personal taste .
Here is the source for the formula:

I can definitely understand that.
I just found it quite weird for people to condemn someone for recording something in a studio instead of doing it live.
Well the video is made to suggest they are playing it live and that's pretty low.

But it's some damned good plastic. Honestly I don't give a crap for how much they edit a studio track as long as it sounds good, but it's just annoying that it seems they're trying to make this appear like a live performance. If it were under the guise of a music video it'd be fine, but it's clearly not. Honestly though live music is never going to be as good as even unedited studio music, if only for the fact that a live stage is noisy, hot, and most singers will generally also have some dance number to keep up with. In the studio you can take a break between takes, catch your breath and grab something to drink. Even if you aren't dancing it's still a shitfuck of pressure, so I don't really expect live music to be as good as studio, as long as it isn't horrible. Edit: And that's not to say there aren't musicians who CAN give a "95%-100% as good as studio" performance or better, or that it necessarily has to be as good as studio to be as good of a time, but ya know.
I'm not really sure what point I'm trying to make here lol.
That's really up to your definition of "good"
I disagree with this. The whole pseudo-punk crackly vocals don't fit the song at all.
And I have to disagree with that, I love Jack White's voice and think it fits the song real well.

There's a band called SOJA who honestly sounds better live.
I prefer the Me First And The Gimme Gimme's version:
