So, you can get into Canada with just the new RFID license/ID? That's great. We used to go over to Canada a lot(I live about a mile from the bridge to Canada), but we haven't been able to lately because you need a stupid passport now.
How are passport stupid? I'm assuming you don't travel?(out of USA)
Insane conspiracy theorist. Just shut up and- OH NO THE BLACK HELICOPTER IS HERE.
If that does happen, you know how easy it would be to destroy that RFID?
Insane conspiracy theorist. Just shut up and- OH NO THE BLACK HELICOPTER IS HERE.
This isn't a conspiracy at all...When we were going over to Canada, the new laws say you either need a passport or an enhanced RFID ID card or drivers license. When we asked about it, the people at the state department told us that after 2012, they won't be giving out regular licenses or ID cards anymore, all of them will have RFID chips. EDIT- this may be only a state thing, though, because it was state IDs and licenses. [editline]04:33AM[/editline]
Wait... WHAT? When the FUCK did Congress pass this?
Like 2008. Or that's when I first heard of something like this. I'm not sure if Congress had anything to do with it, if it's only at a state level. You either need a passport or an enhanced drivers license or ID card, which both have RFID. When I get my license, because I have the RFID ID card, my license will automatically be RFID and I'll only need to pay for the difference in price between the ID and the license, as opposed to the full price of the license. [editline]04:37AM[/editline]
If that does happen, you know how easy it would be to destroy that RFID?
Really easy. Plus, you can buy RFID-reader-blocking wallets and shit like that. I'm not personally going to get one because I'm not that paranoid or anything. It's just a scannable ID card, basically.
I don't mind mandatory ID cards as long as they don't have shit like RFID. I got an ID card last year, but I don't have RFID in it. Texas must not have adopted that yet. Anyway, I see it as a fairly good idea since a lot of places could use one for validating one's identity, plus it would make a few things easier if you live in a place where you don't need a driver's license. (If everything good is in walking distance.)
Turns out every american really hates ID cards........
It makes me feel badass to carry around an ID. At school they are like " can I see your school ID" and I'm like "No problemo" and whip it out.
different for me, if I show them, they'll ask what the fuck I have done with it [editline]11:53AM[/editline] image quality is low on this picture only
So, there are quite a big number of countries with a compulsary ID Card, aka Indetification Card, which can be used for many reasons. Well, to begin with, there are a number of countries that does not requires a compulsary ID card. To name a few: Austria, Canada, Finland, Mexico, Italy, Iceland, France, Sweden, Switzerland and of course, the United States. Now, the United States being the largest member of the group, and most of the people here are Americans, I would like to ask, what is your opinion on having Indetification Cards? Do you think the United States should implement it?
Yea it's optional here, but practically you need either an ID card or a drivers license if you think you're going to get into cahoots with the cops in any way.
It doesnt matter to me, but I feel that if it did I wouldn't mind. I fing it frustrating when a shop sais I need to be 15 to buy and energy drink, and I need ID, and I'm like, who at 15 has ID? I don't have a drivers licence and I dont carry my passport or my birth citificate.
In a number of countries you get your ID at fifteen. Though I don't see any problem with having a compulsory ID. Really the only no-argument for the US at this point is the sheer cost of providing everyone with an ID, hammering it into the heads of the people who protest under every opportunity etc etc. The ID is exactly just that - a handy piece of identification which you use in multiple areas. It works as a border cross permit over the EU (or Shengen Space), age, nationality, personality etc etc. I know my Uni wishes to see some kind of ID when going to large exams for instance. On top of that, they are planning to change the ID number so that it's going to show a lot less personal information than it does now. Essentially couldn't a US ID card consist of. Photo Name Social Security number State
I have a student ID for at college, and it does give you a feeling of security (you are who you say you are) but if you fuck up, they find out who you are as quick as you like.
Federal government does not have the legal ability to do this. Man I love having a constitution. It's like a manual, for the government.

Seriously, 3 and 1/18 years and they only card me once.
Where I live (Hong Kong) we all have to get ID cards by 11 or 12. I've had one for quite a few years now and It's useful for quick immigration into Hong Kong from a foreign country, but pretty useless in every other aspect. So no, It's a waste of money for the US.

Where did you get information like that? I'm 15 and I have ID, Drivers lisence that will work as an ID, Passport and Social security card. (all ID's)
Drivers License doesn't work as a passport (EU doesn't need a passport, only ID), nor does it work as a social security card.
