Charles Dickens did a book about people with the same view as you, and he turned out (along with his children) to be excessively dull, dismal people.

They can pretend a cardboard box is a spaceship all they like, as long as they deep down understand that it's just a cardboard box. If it gets to the point of delusion then you have a problem. Parents should be there to teach them about what's actually happening in the world as well. If a child genuinely thinks there's monsters in his closet, a parent should be there to set them straight, and explain how things really are to them, not to just humor them and move on. I guess my point is, there's a big difference between a child's imagination, where they may pretend something is real even when they understand it's not, and parents just flat out making their children believe something that isn't true.
