More like buy out the mod from under the team.
Stole the words out of my mouth though. Still hate them for what they did and how they act.
[editline]28th November 2013[/editline]
How?
You realize Tripwire did next to nothing work wise on the mod right? They bought out the mod, halted any production/progress at the time and just packaged it up as fast as possible into a stable state and stuck a $30 pricetag on it.
In the code you can see WIP stuff like: bazookas, halftracks, jeeps, tanks, etc. You can bet $30 you will NEVER see those implemented.
[editline]28th November 2013[/editline]
It's not even the pricetag that bothers me so much it is their attitude and their actions.
I hated RO2s launch as much as the next RO1 fan but we don't have to make things up? it was $20 and that comes with RO2.
RO2 owners got the expansion for like $10
Yeah everyone knows about that stuff, I was the one who found it in the first place, I will bet $30 (idk why you keep saying this number that didn't exist) that they will get into the game. Without tripwires help those traps, flame-throwers, etc... a lot of stuff that required tripwire to help with the code would of never made it in or would be a lot worse if they haven't helped.
Tripwire bought funded the mod like a bit over a year before it came out, if they did what you said they did it would of came out a lot sooner then it did. Those tanks are so early progress it's laughable, if they waited for tanks and jeeps I doubt RS would even be out by now, or just recently released.
Even the mod vehicle team, the mod guys who are making half tracks mention how time consuming it is that is why they only made the universal carrier and tripwire is making the sdkfz 251 while they work on other tanks so it doesn't take forever.
Like I have given Tripwire tons of shit when they have done crap but I'm on the forums and play the game often enough to know what's true and what isn't.
Especially since Nestor (lead of RS) mentioned before that he wished Tripwire helped them out a lot sooner and talks about how helpful they were. The only RO1 fans that are mad at Tripwire taking over RS are the ones who hoped it would be the next DH and be massively better then RO2 but once Tripwire got it they knew it would never be like that, like I guess that's a legitimate reason but don't make up things that aren't true, they didn't just say, "hey we need money, lets buy out this mod term, stop them of all their progress and throw the game together!!" one day, if that were even the slightest bit true the files on the tunnel system wouldn't be even in the game considering they spent so much work trying to balance them in the maps.
I certainly don't think there is plenty of room in really any maps, but it's not just the maps problem, just look at the commander class - he can call in artillery, recon plane and force respawn (and give orders but that's useless unless there are bots), and that's what he does and literally all he does, there is no thinking of planning or any options.
What kind of strategic variation have you observed? You put artillery on the enemy's side of the objective then use smoke grenades to push the objective, maybe a squad can flank around a side - that's all there is to it.
Yeah those stock RO2 maps are really bad in size and are annoying, though with the exceptions of Barashka and Mamayev Kurgan plus all the really big custom maps, those really make the game feel more RO like.
They just should plunge apartments out of the game, seriously who are these people who play that all the time every day? like how?!
apartments oh god that map, out of all the original RO1 maps to remake they picked that one, it's so bad
apartments oh god that map, out of all the original RO1 maps to remake they picked that one, it's so bad
The problem isn't Danzig it's self, it's that some fucken how it's worse then the original Danzig :v: like it would be cool if it was a lot bigger but it's like in RO1 one guy said "this map can't be any worse" and they had to prove them wrong or something.
A cool original stock map though is fallenfighters, its big, it forces you to crawl, use smoke and be a good team to win that map, but servers won't run it because people cry at how much they die on that map, that's better then the original too I think.

Sorry I was thinking of the RS deluxe edition which is $30.
And yes I was one of those DH guys.
And their no vehicles for what- 2+ years now? That is just unacceptable I don't care how time consuming they may be. They basically abandoned what (in my eyes) made RO really fun and great. Large non linear maps and combined arms. They did this and it basically had a turn over of the community. Old diehard RO1 players felt jipped and boy were things bad when RO2 first came out. Some stuck around but overall they basically wiped their old community out.
Their stupid insistence on just flat out ignoring questions about vehicles and not responding to themselves getting caught in lies is angering as well.
Also the mind numbing "beta" fiasco and the head dev Ramm being a persecution complex cunt and a dick half of the time.
I wouldn't mind these guys getting hired and this coming out as DLC.
About vehicles, especially tanks, first they need to make them less OP on infantry maps. Anti tank weapons are useless and they barely have any ammo in them. Tanks also respawn like everything else, so you manage to take it down then its back already in the next minute or so. They need to add panzerfaust for an unlockable for anti tank gunner kind of like the stg44. Also bigger maps and more weapons. I see they added the ppsh42 recently but what about flamethrowers to the germans, FG42, mg42 etc...
More weapon unlocks and more customization to them would be great.

Squad based communication relying on commanders orders. Not using the ingame maps or whatever, just communication through Mics.

Also I think RO2 is getting way too much shit. And that's coming from a RO1 fan, too.
If you are having the issue with the crash any time you get a radio message, get VCStarter. It fixes that issue and lets you play on modern PCs.
Believe me, I tried that and a hundred other things. It just doesn't like Vista for whatever reason.

Yeah that shit was inexcusable, they basically ignored us until all the new people left for CoD and BF and the only thing they had left was like a broken form of their old community but I assume then your waiting for Festung Europa like most of us are?
Thank god Yoshiro is a good PR manager or else I doubt they would have anything left, I liked to how they admitted they had smaller maps in the works before but because most of the fanbase left is old RO guys really they knew they couldn't release them.
Though the 2+ years for vehicles yeah is retarded, they only really went into it when the mod team showed up and started making it for themselves, plus they had to spend like 2 years to fix all the bugs because they decided to rush the game, then figure out what to do with the mess of the community they had left after the whole fiasco, it makes sense why we are getting them now but the reason for it is stupid.
You can tell now they learned their mistakes from that horrific launch but hopefully in the long run RO2 shapes up to something better.

Jesus christ this, the potential man...the game has so much potential, especially when you play a really good big custom map, it's practically mocking you and throwing it in your face, there is just so much potential for the game to be above and beyond RO1.
Though I'm surprised you play, if I recall you couldn't stand pub RO1 and only played competitively, don't know how your getting by with RO2 pubs :v:
Ummmm considering this is also a thread about the mod I'll post this:
There is a choice of the NVA and US Army with other sides like AVRN and Vietcong coming later.
From their twitter, so yeah obviously we get the Vietcong you bitches.
There is a very disturbing lack of 'Fortunate Son' in this trailer.
They're gonna have fucking helicopters in this! One's a scout and the other's an attack chopper, so I'll bet my money that the third is a transport helicopter.
I'm hyped for the ARVN.

Meh, part of why I still enjoy the game despite its flaws is cause it does things like sound design, guns, combat in general and such things much better than the original game and because of this I don't really mind pubbing as much. Also I like rising storm better, seems that the players communicate more on European servers than in ro2 so that makes pubbing much better!
I wish RO2 had directional voice and more people actually used their mics. It can be a really intense game when both sides are coordinating and using you know, actual tactics instead of just spamming themselves at each other.

This so much. I don't want to sound like a total bellend but it really feels like they ditched all that in favour of small condensed maps where it's just spamwaves of players killing each other, to cater to the "CoD crowd".
The problem isn't Danzig it's self, it's that some fucken how it's worse then the original Danzig :v: like it would be cool if it was a lot bigger but it's like in RO1 one guy said "this map can't be any worse" and they had to prove them wrong or something.

Danzig was an awesome map in RO1, but now it's faar too easy as Germans. It goes like this for me: Grab STG-44, go to top floor of central building, kill everything, and I would.
I miss Koingsplatz. Even though it's quite similar to your average RO2 map, it was just awesome, plenty of concealment to use and it could've really done with a remake, just with less artillery preferably.
Darkest Hour was ironically RO's finest hour in my eyes. I mean RO was already niche enough, but the vast majority of players on DH actually knew that teamwork was a thing that existed. It felt like the perfect realisation of what RO1 was going for in general. There were some really awesome maps, big and small, that practically necessitated good teamwork, the large ones especially because killing a single guy felt like a victory in its self, and did a lot more to swing a fight than in RO2/RS.
I also still enjoy RO2/RS but as it's already been said, it could be so much better with like 2 or 3 extra vehicles per side (Universal Carrier/M3 Halftrack/SdKfz 251/Japanese equivalent, either a heavy tank or tank destroyer, and maybe jeeps like the Kubelwagen, GAZ and Willys MB) and some much larger, non-linear maps. DH to RO2 feels like Project Reality to BF3.
Honestly they could just release a DLC containing all the original RO maps.
That would fix a lot.
Also I miss the cars.
I think a lot of the problem with the game is the general community it's attracted. There are a lot of people who don't seem to understand their objectives or roles. There should at least be a mandatory tutorial or quiz for taking Squad and Team leader, as well as Engineers and Tank crews. Too many times you get idiots taking those slots, fucking a round up entirely which is especially annoying on Campaign
Also, I have a feeling this will play completely different to RO2/RS. There'll probably be 1 bolt-action rifle per team for snipers, while everything else will be semi or full-auto. Hopefully this means people will actually put suppressive fire to use.
no actual vietcong guerrillas though. i have yet to see a vietnam wargame that has you playing as them with tons of traps and tunnels other than BF:vietnam.
Vietcong. I remember when that game was new, playing on a 32player Creek server was intense as fuck. You felt like you were in Nam. M16 just had that classic sound perfectly done
I also remember single player was so buggy it was almost impossible to complete. The intro scene where the credits roll as you approach your base via Helicopter. Soon as it lands and you hop out, you just fell through the map
It also had some pretty interesting Co-op. A more intense and realistic feeling version of Terrorist Hunt from Rainbow Six, basically

When i'm playing on say Druzhina or another map that has a tank, and the enemy tank comes way behind our enemy lines and i can hear all the anti tank gunners shooting and doing no damage. I tell them to stop and run up to it with an anti tank grenade and i remember someone asked me why...
Usually when i tell people to use their anti tank grenades the tank blows up after like 20 seconds...
Speaking of Druzhina, I don't get why in campaign mode, people always choose that map to attack on. In the past few days I've had 3 rounds of it commanding for the defenders, and each time the enemy did not get past E/D, and by the end of each we had 200+ reinforcements. All it took was telling people where there were gaps in our defensive lines, and not to sit back anywhere behind those points.
