"Even in atheism." I find that sentence quite ironic.
I'm really amazed how many believers here are, and how they disrespect atheism.
No, it is a way of thinking and life, just like whatever you believe in.
It's not a religion though. It is missing every element required to define "Athiesm" as a religion. From a theological standpoint, it is NOT a religion.
Athiests are even more annoying than the craziest Christians. Athiests seem to have this funny idea in their heads that America was not created by our forefathers with the goal of religions freedom, and wish to outlaw religion. Everywhere. (At least the most vocalized Athiests do).
I hate atheism. I'm open to agnosticism and even theism, but atheism is just stupid. One cannot know if there is or is not a God until one passes on, in which case, you wouldn't be able to tell anyone jack shit anyway!
If anyone were being mathematical, they'd simply pick agnosticism or theism and just avoid the other.
Technically it's illegal in the UK to eat Mince Pies on Christmas day. You are also not allowed to drive to church on Christmas Day.
I rather get elected with everyone thinking im the biggest Christian ever.
Then I announce im Athiest and sit back and watch what happens.

You get killed or burned alive.

I found a loophole. It says "a God", but doesn't state which one. So every single politician in Arkansa is actually invalid, because they all deny the existence of at least one God, be it Allah, Jehova, Yahweh, Zeus or Thor.

God =/= god

Most of the atheists thoughts are agnosticismic. Theres no way to prove there is god, and there is nothing that indicates that there might be a god which could be used to make a "theory of god", so god is nonexistent.
So I am an atheist because I am agnostic

well shit
Changed it to a favorite video of mine.
And this is how you start and end a religious thread. All out flamewar. Is my observation correct?
Screw atheists and screw religious people. How about lets stop shoving pointless arguments over what will happen when we die, where we came from, and just fucking enjoy our life?
That's not the point. What I am trying to do is to expose and stop a civil rights violation. I couldn't give two shits what you believe.
I hate atheism. I'm open to agnosticism and even theism, but atheism is just stupid. One cannot know if there is or is not a God until one passes on, in which case, you wouldn't be able to tell anyone jack shit anyway!

Atheism isn't the outright denial of any possibility that there's a god. We believe that current scientific evidence does not support the existence of an omnipotent being. Completely discounting the possibility would be downright irresponsible.
No, this is a thread that is trying to expose a violation of human rights, not trying to incite a religious shitstorm.
Ha ha ha, wow.

We don't want to outlaw religion, either. You're making shit up.
THE MOST VOCAL THEISTS WANT TO STONE GAYS SO YOU ALL DO RIGHT DURP DURP
Hmm, The USA seems to be doing something right for once..

Troll score 3/10
I gave you a bonus point because the thread is already pretty heated
Eh.
While yes, I do believe that atheists should have the same rights as Christians, something in the back of my head is saying "NO THEY DON'T."
Maybe I'm just sour about all of the arrogant atheists who think they're open minded, and logical, but the second somebody goes "Yeah I believe in religion" They'll instantly try to convert them/insult them, regardless of what they think.
Most of you guys are okay. I've just had some bad experiences with your group.

And humanity as a whole has had some bad experiences with your group.
I'm going to be the nice guy and call it even.

I can understand that.
I was already aware that some states of the USA had some pretty fucked up rules regarding religion, but I never knew it was this many.
It's not a hateful thing, it's just they couldn't think of a way to make an atheist promise not to lie, as he has no religious attachments.
Damn right it's a hateful thing! They're basically saying that we aren't trustworthy, are selfish assholes who, if granted power, would use it do to bad things!
"I don't hate black people, I just don't trust them to run my government"
"I don't hate jews, I just don't trust them to run my government"
See how fucking wrong that is?
And you people wonder why us Atheists are so angry! We're not delusional, we ARE being oppressed, you're just too blind to see it!

Why do so many people not know what atheism is? On this forum I must have explained this at least 10 times and seen others explain it just as much. Atheism = one end of the dichotomy that is: do you believe in any god? If you cannot answer: Yes I believe in at least one god, then you are an atheist.
As such, there's nothing inherent about atheism that leads to anything, you don't even have to know how to spell 'science' to be one, babies sure aren't. However, to be an anti-theist, that is, to have a positive belief there is no god, you are required to be an atheist, but this isn't the same thing at all, if you think so then you're a moron who needs to learn what a subset is.
I wonder if believing in selfmade gods counts as being religious?
I wonder if believing in selfmade gods counts as being religious?
Yes.

That would infringe upon the rights of others, and this is undesirable. I don't want anything to be outlawed, I just want to introduce an alternative and hope that everyone goes with it. If they still want to believe in fairy tales, they are entitled to do so, so long as it does not effect anyone other than themselves.
What I would like to do is provide better education for people, and I believe that eventually atheism will run rampant due to this education. Once someone attains a certain level of knowledge, or learns certain things about the world, they generally stop accepting the idea that an omnipotent fairy in the sky did, is, was, and will continue to be everything. The idea no longer is needed to explain the world around them, because now they are able to use the knowledge they have gained to explain the world around them, and at that point they tend to consider themselves atheist.
When I first started trying to sway my friends to atheism, I would use arguments centered entirely around casting doubt on the existence of god. Once this doubt is there, if you give them time to think about it alone, generally a person will come around. It worked a few times, but there were a lot of people who were die-hard god fanatics and wouldn't even begin to doubt the existence of their fairy. So, I dropped all arguments against god (why argue against something that isn't real), and instead started educating people about the nature of the universe, and then (for the most part) they realized that their delusion was stupid and that facts explain things much better than fairies. There are still a couple people I know who haven't come around, but at least I've planted the seeds of doubt and spread a few facts along the way, so I feel that I've done some good work.
There comes a time, however, where you need to realize that some people just want to believe whatever they want and don't need facts or explanation in their life. My best friend is one of these people, and the way he sees it, things just work and there's no reason to ever explain them or learn about anything. This is just the way he wants to live, so I'm cool with that. It doesn't bother or harm me that he thinks this way, so there's no reason to push the issue. I would like for him to become more motivated about learning, but again, if it's not his thing, no reason to force it on him.
In short, it's the bit about forcing that I don't like. Forcefully imposing your will upon others is a horrible thing. All laws do this, and while there are a lot of laws I am thankful for, they still serve the overall purpose of forcefully imposing someone's will upon someone else. You can discuss things with people, you can tell them what you think, and you can teach them what you know, but you can't force them to do anything, and I think that's what this thread is all about. You shouldn't be forced to lie about your beliefs, which is exactly what you would have to do if you were an atheist.
I guess it's good that nobody cares about these laws, because I happen to live in one of these states, and I would love to one day have a government official who is an admitted atheist. Of course, there's still the fact that admitting atheism is political suicide no matter what position you want, but that's another issue entirely.
First off before people say this is the problem in the United States or all this shit, please look and do some research to see if they are actually practiced and in effect.
Just because they are there doesn't mean they are enforced.
In my state if I ride in a car with a girl under 18 who is not wearing shoes and socks I can be charged with rape.
Does that mean that they are going to arrest me? No... It isn't enforced, these are probably OLD laws back when they were socially acceptable and they just aren't in effect any more.

So you particularly dislike forcing opinions and ideas onto other people...yet you spent time converting people to atheism and have "planted the seeds of doubt and spread a few facts"...I'm not sure what point you are trying to prove. I am all for further education, but for the sole puprose of turning people away from religion? I'm not sure.
