They remind me of hideous demons....
Id say their all dark type if I first saw them now... :byodood:
holy shit nostalgia
When I saw the picture, the first thing I thought was, "good thing they didn't make Butterfry Pokemon #1." And then I remember that they go right to left.
Anyway some of those are creepy as shit.
uh no, I'm pretty sure these wouldn't be the original designs for pokemon.
but fucking shit just look at lugia
Holy shit Merrill's evolution looks frightening as hell.
It looks like it was ripped from Epic Mickey.
Pokemon would be so awesome if they made a hardcore version now :v:
also Unown looks like a bunch of different ninja throwing stars
Holy fuck. Castform looks like a retard now.

he looks so happy :buddy:
Hahaha oh wow, these are brilliant. It's like what an AO rated Pokémon game would look like :v:
I demand Mudkip.
why hasn't anyone noticed that this couldn't be the 'original' drawings, concept art, or production images in any way shape or form? :raise:
besides, the set has pokemon that weren't thought up until pokemon silver/gold came out. The images from the card game were the original images, and they were mostly done by various concept artists all collaborating together.
I'm glad they slightly reconsolidated some of the pokemon's looks, Pikachu looked a little :downs:.

Well this redefines awesomeness...

It's obviously known that the pokemon cards are the first real original drawings. But there are a few things that did confuse me. In some of the Pokemon cards you can actually see real life drawn animals such as birds and the likes. Aren't these meant to be non existent in Pokemon?

I don't know about the original Pokemon but in the anime we can't see these other animals.

That was kind of a problem with the fact that it was a large-scale collaborative. All of the artists were just asked to come up with something that fits their prescribed subset.
Because the game worked off of a rock-paper-scissors scheme of elements, they needed a specific amount of each, so they'd tell an artist they needed to think up one or two creatures of some sort to fit [electric] in genre, but give it a twist. That gave us an electric mouse, a giant pokeball with eyes, and an even bigger pokeball with eyes.
Other artists who were freelancing into the project were given a description of a creature created by one of the couple of idea-men on the team, and they had NO idea what the rest of the project was about. Most notable of which was the guy who did the crappy 3d model of gastly in a random graffiti-tagged room.

An artist always has a style, and when asked to make one or two interesting creatures, they don't come to the conclusion (unless told) that the entire world is these things, so when they fill in a background they'll do what they're used to- chirping birds and the like to make a scene feel more natural and real, in a sense.
That Charmeleon reminds me of Agumon from the Digimon movie.
Do you have some of these for the ruby/sapphire/emerald Pokemon?

Hey, this reminds me of- ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD

The anime tries too hard to be exactly like the games, which weren't meant to be translated into a story you'd see on television without heavy modification. I've only played little bits and pieces of the first 3 generations when my cousin left his stuff at my house, but it's obvious that the world that the series takes place in is built entirely around the gameplay, in which human characters and story have very little relevance, so when you translate it into a tv show, you end up with Human characters that seem out of place and are unable to really portray themselves as anything more than just excuses to see pokemon fight. To top it all off, rather than just building off of what they already had, they hit the reset button on the series whenever a new generation starts, abandoning everyone and everything they had up to that point.
Most people who make stories and merchandise seem to realize this and change things to make it better suited to what they're making. That's why Nintendo fanboys tend to like some comic that apparently has violence, conflict, and character development.

God I laughed so hard at these pics.
I wish pokemon actually looked like this.
but some of these aren't even in the original 150. did they already have the new ones drawn when they first released pokemon?
I never thought Pokemon would haunt my dreams. Until now. :byodood:
Does espeon only have one eye? Wow that's creepy.
Jigglypuff is RAWR :D
In the manga, Isamu and his Clefairy appear nude at the end of the second chapter. Their genitalia are visible. This is a possible reason why the manga was not released in North America
Wut

Also can someone make that jigglypuff into an avatar?
