is there any information as to if playing the other titles beyond KH1/2 will be necessary?
also, the japanese VA for Hades is spot on for the english mannerisms
So, this like the fifth time the trailer includes the Hercules Goliath fight in the span of 6 years. They haven't really focused on showing any other levels in their press releases, either they're hiding away the good stuff or this game is still going through development hell.
Wait I thought everyone but Malificent and Oogie forgot about being in her villains legion of doom.

I haven't played the portable games but from what I remember hearing Pete is like super loyal to her.

Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance is definitely necessary if you care about the plot. Chain of memories isn't that nesessary if you've played 2 already since it bridges 1 and 2 but 2 make more sense if you do and Birth By Sleep has some cutscenes relevant to Chain of Memories. Dream Drop Distance make more sense (not that Dream Drop Distance makes much sense to begin with) if you've at least watched the cutscenes from 358/2. Coded is pretty much not mandatory since Dream Drop Distance covers all of its relevant points.
I would also like to reiterate that Dream Drop Distance does not explain itself very well and literally drops you in a boss fight at the beginning of the game with no proper explanation until you've pretty much finished exploring the first world. Also that the first few cutscenes in the game actually takes place during Birth by Sleep. There's no real logical sense to the order they throw cutscenes at you in that game.

Hold your pants since it's gonna take ~2 or 3 years still

Every plot element demo'd in these trailers so far is dependant on Birth by Sleep and 3D
I am becoming increasingly worried that Kingdom Hearts 2 did not matter to the story considering that [sp]Xemnas, Ansem and etc are all back because of Dream Drop Distance contrivances[/sp]
The plot becomes a bit easy to follow once you consider 358/2 days as a one-off and take into consider Birth by Sleep and DDD that [sp]Xehanort is the one and only mastermind behind the events of the series[/sp], but that isn't saying much as you do need to have played them to get it. Not to mention you have to play each game on the hardest difficulty to unlock the after-credits scenes.
To the best of my ability of the story so far, [sp]Master Xehanort tried to reveal Kingdom Hearts via a replica of the X-blade but failed. He possesses Terra to expand his life span and continue his work on plan B while also splitting his soul into several characters. Those characters are previous villains from Organization XIII in KH II and return in DDD. The remaining villain roster is 7 variations of Master Xehanort from Birth by Sleep including his younger self who originated in Destiny Island. Riku and Sora tell Yen Sid about this and tells them to form 7 warriors of light to combat Xehanort's 7 warriors of darkness.[/sp] And now we come to KHIII.
To sum it up, [sp]Master Xehanort has been the true villain the whole time and now Sora needs an army of other Keyblade warriors like him.[/sp]
Or you can play these games and get the gist of what's going on;
-KH
-KHII
-Birth by Sleep (The prequel)
-DDD (aka 2.5)
My only concern is how are they going to get [sp]Master Xehanort to become an active villain because Leonard Nemoy passed away.[/sp]
My god it looks gorgeous, it's like I'm back in the PS2 days with all this excitement

If you care about the plot you probably wanna play Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance at least to get the gist, but frankly even as a long time fan I can't say I've ever fully grasped its story or really needed it to have fun
And to think this is one arc. They were really in the dark about the story back at KH1, huh?
They probably didn't have all this shit planned out. There was the secret ending video, especially for Final Mix, that loosely tossed a lot of future ideas around but they definitely didn't have some long-term idea of how the story would turn out until they'd both started CoM and KH2's development, and thus added in Xemnas' secret boss fight in KH1FM. It takes until Birth by Sleep to finally get a solid definition of the overarching storyline for the series that they kept improvising, as each preceding game throws hints into the air about something in a sequel they think is a neat idea before they build off of it proper.
And even then, now the fucking mobile game and its story are encroaching into the plot too. The box Pete and Maleficient are looking for in this trailer is a reference to the Back Cover plotline involving a certain character, and [sp]not only is Ventus going to be an important figure as a Union leader of Keybladers in events preceding Birth By Sleep, but the protagonist of the phone game somehow ended up in in the present day of the series after they seemingly died in the Keyblade War, complete with Maleficent in the background ranting about how Sora can't stop her now.[/sp]
Don't know if this has been brought up, but the official Amazon page gives it a release date of December 29, 2017.

no triple-A publisher would release a game at a date like that, it's a tentative date as a placeholder
this the first KH game on Xbox too am i right?
I am extremely excited for this but is it just me or does Xemnas actually look worse in that cutscene than in KH2?
Never knew, James Woods speaks Japanese

It's the lighting and how the textures are kinda applied to everyone, they have that weird plastic doll kinda look to them. It doesn't look bad exactly but it's sorta off putting when the art style of the models works better when the light's applied kinda flatly
