Unfortunately, people like your dad surround me every day. I try to tell them facts (not about their religion, but facts that they don't want to believe (evolution)) and it hurts. Don't even try.
Just saying, but a good athiest/agnostic/whatever you are wouldn't question peoples beliefs. If they want to believe that a magical bearded man made earth and everything on it then let them. Especially when you're questioning your family, I mean... they're family! I poke fun at my friend sometimes for being religious, but I would never say anything to my mom for going to church.
I'm kinda like this. As long nobody tries to shove retarded/outlandish/childish/ignorant stuff down my throat, I won't bother them.
I love how you say you love your father and respect his beliefs; yet here you are going behind his back criticizing what he believes. I love hypocrisy. Typical atheist delusion and wishful thinking. Religion may decrease but I highly doubt it will ever die.
there's still people who won't step on cracks on the pavement or won't walk under ladders, of course there will be a few. i mean die by becoming a minority of people who have no control over how the country is run and keep themselves to themselves.
Are you not reading what I am saying. Its an issue of him not respecting me as an athiest, he views me as some imbecile, isolates me, treats me as a lesser person and believes as a non-believer I am some horrible being not worthy of being his son, destined for damnation. Some how that makes me a dick.

I inquired his belief of there having to be some conscious omnipotent being at the beginning of our fruition, stating that it would make more sense that Evolution (he does believe in it, he doesn't believe we evolved from apes specifically though ) as it occurred on a Micro level on our planet, could have occurred on a Macro-scale in the universe, that a 'God Particle' evolved over time to create the universe.

I inquired his belief
k

You called his views stupid and yet you act like the victim due to him calling your views stupid.
I don't think so. The article I'm talking about didn't mention IQ. It stated that some area in the brain responsible for something along the lines of analytical thinking was less active in those describing themselves as believers/religious.
Oh yeah, I think I remember reading that article some time ago

It's simply declined into a minority.
Typical atheist delusion and wishful thinking. Religion may decrease but I highly doubt it will ever die.
considering the amount of my peers who used to go to church (myself included) compared to the amount who still go to church (myself not included), it is definitely decreasing. At least within my generation/demographic/however these things are categorized. But no, it will NEVER disappear completely. At least not the major ones, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, etc.
you reckon so? christianity is dying rapidly in the uk, i give all religions 250years tops, depending on how things pan out :)
Religion will be with humanity forever I think, just because one dies doesn't mean another won't rise up eventually.
Faith has a way of making people say, do and believe incredibly dumb things, even if they're perfectly rational otherwise. There has even been research done suggesting faith actually cripples the part in your brain relating to analytical and question-based thinking. There's an article about it somewhere.
I think it's the other way around though. Lower IQ would reduce your ability to think for yourself, and therefore you'd be more likely to just follow along with the group.
Then it's not dead. It's simply declined into a minority.
yeah so it doesn't count for anything, it's a nonentity in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully soon, we'll smash the boarders of all countries and live a humans together on planet earth. Awww, maybe one day eh.
Ask him why the Rapture didn't occur when Camping said it would.
well seeing as it says in the bible that only god can decide when it would happen that one would be pretty easy to counter
You can't erase religion. It is an ideology. Unless you have controlled thinking, you can not get rid of ideas. Not only is it impossible, but highly unethical. People's thoughts are their own. And don't treat your dad like he's an idiot. You may say he's treating you like an idiot, but c'mon dude. Look in the mirror. If my son suddenly thought he was superior than my own beliefs and started trying to make me out to be an idiot, I'd show that little twerp a thing or two. And after everything, you're posting it on an internet forum. Well done man, you have cemented yourself in our minds and being a genius.
Tell your father this simple analogy: If a Religious man walked passed a church and saw a man talking to himself in prayer with God, the man would think nothing of it and continue walking, but if that same man walked passed a room and saw a man talking to himself with his imaginary friend, the Religious man would think, there must be something wrong with that man, why is he acting so strange?
You called his views stupid and yet you act like the victim due to him calling your views stupid.
If anything like I said he repeatedly called me an idiot and stupid for telling him my beliefs. I apologize if I came across as hypocritical, I wasn't trying to be arrogant, maybe like Aries said in the process of trying to make a point I cared more about being right then actually what I believed in. I've always been against superior Atheist types, seems like I was one myself :saddowns: Maybe I have been a dick I'll try and apologize to my dad for acting that way, I hope he can will return the apology.
Religion will be with humanity forever I think, just because one dies doesn't mean another won't rise up eventually.
One day we will look at large religions like Christianity in the same light that we do ancient mythology. Religion may still exist in small groups of people but eventually it will die out for the most part. The sooner the better.

If an Athiest walked passed a church and saw a man talking to himself in prayer he would think there is no difference between the people in a church and the people in a mental institution, as both have imaginary friends, but only one is seen as "physcho" or "crazy", even though people of religion do the exact same thing.
Sure, there's sanity in numbers. But you know what? Who. Fucking. Cares. It's their life. Let them live it how they want, free of your own influence and manipulation. Then maybe one day, the bad ones might stop trying to influence you. Shit, why do so many atheists have a superiority complex?

All three times you spelled it "physcho". :raise:

But regardless, everyone is entitled to their right to believe in whatever they want.
Typical atheist delusion and wishful thinking. Religion may decrease but I highly doubt it will ever die.
Yeah because people totally still workship greek and roman gods, right? Oh and let's not forget sumerian deities... they're so in right now
