I must ask, where on earth do you get ash?
Its surprising really how much people have forgotten about bushcraft skills.
ash is very common out in the english countryside. and in america. the leaves look like this.

as i stated, stems need to be made of young ash saplings.
Sweet, nicely done.
Ray Mears would be proud.
I fucking love it.

You need a Gandalf costume to go with it.
I'd post my handcarved pipe, but I can't find the fucking transfer cord for my camera.
My mother lost her transfer cord the first day she bought her camera, and what a fucking surprise, mine is the same kind.
So now she takes mine all the time, and plays dumb when I ask where it is...
FML...
I'm going to search again, my pipe took about 2 days to carve from start to finish. Too good not to post.
Found the cord, pictures incoming in new post...
Tutorial?

The stem I ordered custom, to fit the bowl I made, it's Ivory, but starting to show its age.
Very nice.

Have fun sucking on your cancer-stick.
Was going to say thanks, but you just changed your post in the middle of me typing.
Where did you get the ivory from? And how much did it cost?
Where did you get the ivory from? And how much did it cost?
It was carved by a pipe maker from Sweden, but he died about a year ago. Quite sad, he was a great guy, always friendly, and very helpful.
The stem was around $200, plus to ship was around $20. So $220 give or take was the final amount for the stem. A small price to pay for a unique stem.
You look like you've been filling that pipe with crack
Im going to make a quick corn cob pipe. Thanks to this thread for inspiration.

Yeah, okay...
When you smoke a pipe, it builds a layer on the wall called "Cake".
What this does is protect the sides of the pipe from burning through, and it also helps flavor.
