From what I've seen, most of the Bronies have migrated from MLP to being wanted to be fucked by animatronic fox pirates.
And this is coming from someone who knew multiple people who were into MLP that want to do this.
Here's the problem with this thinking, and something I've hypothesized for a long, long while:
The only reason people think negatively about bronies are because the fact that the worst and most obnoxious end up representing groups. When's the last time you noticed a calm, collected, and agreeable brony? Almost never. That's because they're not talking about it as over-the-top as their counterparts. They're a fan, but they're not pointing it out.
I've met people like that - it's just another show that they enjoy and that's really it. But how hard is it to pay attention to that when there's weirdos on the internet that are boisterous about how much they want to impale one of the ponies from the show? It's an eye-catcher, and because the loud ones get the attention, the entire fandom gets looked at as a bonkers fetish anti-social nightmare.
woah shit doc brown howd i get back to 2011
any sort of pony comedy i'm not going to find funny and is only targeted towards bronies so it'll just be driving away an audience

But the term "brony" is typically reserved for the obnoxious ones. You can be a fan of MLP without being obnoxious, in which case you are just known as "a fan of MLP".
Imagine still getting mad about MLP:FiM existing 5 years after it premiered.
5 years holy shit it really has been that long? I feel a bit old.
Reading the above arguments is like taking a trip down nostalgia lane. I remember when threads in this section would reach 10+ pages and above. Sometimes I wish I didn't, because they were pretty shit.

How would you define "obnoxious"? Because I consider a brony to be a devout fan regardless of how obnoxious they are. And if it was reserved as an insult, I would say the definition has changed because people can and will self-identify as a brony. It's like "Whovian" - the people who I've met that have self-identified as a Whovian can be over the top with it, but they're not always awful about it.

If you keep telling me about how much you love MLP and how you think everyone should watch the show, that's pretty obnoxious. I haven't met anyone like that before though, I've only seen examples online.
