You mean a cartoon that looks as good as those or only hand drawn or what? Since when does it matter if animation is hand drawn see it's this kind of stuff that makes anime dumb for me this pretentious notion that somehow it's above other forms of animation when it isn't at all. For me it's always the same humorless mess that presents the story and poses philosophical questions in the most awkward ways, where any Pixar film could be considered deeper. At least movies like all those by Miyazaki don't do that. It's almost like he realizes what he's making: CARTOONS.

American TV has the major long running shows (family guy, simpsons), where anime has naruto and bleach shit. US tv tends to focus on making more than 3 seasons for a show, where a lot of anime dries up after the first or second go.

That's actually intentional in that show. They probably had a low ass budget as well, but in this case it was actually to boost the humor, which it actually does well, especially with that dub (the only time dubs are acceptable is when they are so bad they are good).

I don't see how cartoons have anything to do with it being able to be deep or not. Now then, that there is hardly any deep show out there at all is another matter.
The only actually psychological or deep anime I've seen so far is Paranoia Agent, Mind Game, Trapeze and Welcome to the NHK.

Yeah I noticed it does get better but I felt like that end was a neat twist, I also think those extra characters seem unimportant to the overall story and theme but I haven't seen enough to say for sure.
[sp]Also I liked that Mustang killed Winry's parents, it was a lot stronger and made the character's past more interesting imo[/sp]
And most importantly the quality of animation in the original was a lot higher and had a more serious tone, with a lot less of those exaggerated anime expressions that this one seems to use way too much.
