The few of you saying this isn't based on TF2 are dumb by the way. You have the pyro, or wait - he's called 'Reaper' here. A masked, mysterious, deranged killer who specializes in close range combat. You have the cheeky, full-of-spunk and full-of-themself racecar class - Scout/Tracer. There's Engineer/Torbjorn. This one should already be self-evident. Here's a snippet from his bio - "He can use the scrap he collects from dead enemies and allies to repair or upgrade it, increasing its health and adding a second cannon barrel and a rocket launcher." There's Winston/Heavy, the tanky brawler with the close-range weapon that aims itself. And of course the medigun. Also the obvious game-mode similarity with payload, the art style similarity, the overall character personality similarities, the structural similarities with things like each character representing a different nationality for fanservice purposes, etc.
Uh, maybe a couple of the mechanics like healing and turrets are similar, but you have fucking high if you think any of that other shit makes sense.
You'd have to be braindead to think this game is not heavily based on TF2. Half the character concepts might as well be direct copies.
You'd have to be braindead to think this game is not heavily based on TF2. Half the character concepts might as well be direct copies.
If by "direct copy," you mean "very basic archetype."
If by "direct copy," you mean "very basic archetype."
No, they're really pretty specific. Refer to my post on page 4.
No, they're really pretty specific. Refer to my post on page 4.
They're very specific if your pop culture awareness is comprise entirely of TF2 and Overwatch.
They're very specific if your pop culture awareness is comprise entirely of TF2 and Overwatch.
They're specific in scope and the scope is games generally. There is no other game which borrows half its cast, so many gameplay mechanics, and so much art direction from TF2.
I mean the fact you compared Winston to the Heavy instead of Beast or Ultra-Humanite says a lot.
I mean the fact you compared Winston to the Heavy instead of Beast or Ultra-Humanite says a lot.
No it doesn't
Or that you seem to think Overwatch is in a early 1900's industrial art style.
I think we can agree on this tho, the game is definitely trying to compete with TF2. [sp]Which means its probably going to be F2P at some point, just like Heroes of the Storm.[/sp]
Outside of Starcraft and WoW, I think at this point I would be more surprised at Blizzard charging for a game than it being F2P.
That gameplay trailer was so boring. Game looks alright though
generic as shit characters wtf
Uh, maybe a couple of the mechanics like healing and turrets are similar, but you have fucking high if you think any of that other shit makes sense.
They're not similar, they're identical in everything except visual representation. At least the engineer/medigun are.
My 3D modeling profesor works for blizzard and let me play it on his laptop it's pretty fucking dope! And like i am not a blizzard fan!

even if it IS inspired by tf2 (which is not a bad thing), chances are it will probably barely play anything like it. tf2 was inspired by quake/was originally a quake mod so the two are sort of similar in terms of weapons, aiming, etc. while overwatch is just another class-based arena(?) shooter with its own thing going on. even if overwatch has similar properties to tf2 like class resemblance, gamemodes, etc. who gives a fuck? it'll be a new experience. honestly i'm just hoping that it is fun and doesn't die.
generic as shit characters wtf
"One shot, one kill" Seriously, for being characters they don't seem to be characterized beyond edgy and "badass" lines, they say generic lines that seem to come off of MOBA games When TF2 started, the classes felt more like characters, even though that at the time they weren't there for much other then to give the classes some flavor beyond gameplay
I didn't really like the cinematic trailer, but the gameplay one looked quite fun. Definitely reminds me of TF2, but seems like rather than classes you have characters. I hope they'll have some fun gamemodes.
There's Winston/Heavy, the tanky brawler with the close-range weapon that aims itself.
Winston is nothing like heavy. He's closer to pyro, with a somewhat similar primary, special mobility options, and melee combat. ffs, heavy doesn't even use melee unless the player has no idea what they're doing. Either way, in a class-based online fps, the classes are going to fill similar roles. The point is that the game looks like it plays completely differently to tf2.
"One Shot One Kill" has been a Blizzard thing since at least Starcraft Original, possibly even earlier.
Doesn't make it better
So I'm the only person that's actually really excited about this game? :v:
Doesn't make it better
I wouldn't say that the TF2 classes gave off much character before the "Meet the X" videos were released. Give it some time, let the writers do their thing before you diss the game, it was just announced.
well made trailer but god, all of these characters archetypes are so generic it hurts, and the designs are a bit confusing and over the top
Honestly couldn't care less about any possible similarities to -or competition with TF2. Overwatch looks fun and if it turns out to actually be as fun as it looks, I'll play it; TF2 comparable or not.
You have the pyro, or wait - he's called 'Reaper' here. A masked, mysterious, deranged killer who specializes in close range combat.
Oh my god, I knew it! They said I was wrong! Nobody believed me, but I knew it! Friday the 13th ripped off TF2!

can i just mention how really super cool zenyatta seems or would if the total randomness of it at all didn't ruin it a little
yes and my uncle works for nintendo
My uncle is Sashimi Ottowa he is the king of Nintento
