I've been somewhat developing a language for a comic I've been working on off and on. It's not totally worked out yet, since I've been busy lately. Here's an example(ish):
wow that is the awesomest fake language ever. at least, the coolest looking. [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] care to explain the principles behind it?

[editline]24th May 2011[/editline] care to explain the principles behind it?
Basically it's a verbal barcode that references back to an archived set of data. Written out its exactly the same. Think of it like this: we're all walking around with a dictionary in our heads, and when somebody said something or you read a line, it would reference a page, paragraph and word. Like saying "page 20, line 12, second word."
There's this guy who created two ridiculously complex languages. One of those is Ilaksh. It's quite fascinating. Aside from the insanely complicated morphology, it also has two separate scripts. One pictorial hieroglyph-esque and one "normal": Andmùt žiëlùimäv asavéwöc ukšu’ŭs ujgălärň žö’äàcërb. The incompetent tailor began crying after finding out about the clowns’ new directive on nakedness. En-nà ççwačotëērbïkç ukšëěuh çéitëpš äirei’wuŧ a’läçewöóřzah žie. If only the troupe of clowns had gotten together and destroyed their musical instruments just after performing that lovely recital for us. It's not particularly beautiful, but the grammar is simply ridiculous: Xasskügà’pss akkiàl. IFL-OPR-‘eyesight’-PRX/M/CSL/DPX-FLC1/6-FAC-SGS+ IFL-‘woman’-AFF-DEL/M/CSL/UNI Let's assume for the sake of argument that the woman’s eyesight is improving. Ktiàl akkalièç ìxtal. IFL/NRM-‘man’-AFF-DEL/M/CSL/UNI IFL/NRM-‘woman’-OBL-DEL/M/CSL/UNI-MAT2/3 IFL/RPV-OPR-‘see’-DEL/M/CSL/UNI The man is imagining he sees a young girl. :smug:

back in 6th grade I learned the star wars imperial alphabet and found out just how bland all of the awesome looking text in the movies was. :frown:

[editline]26th May 2011[/editline] I've made up all sorts of words, usually because I want to think quickly and I couldn't be bothered bringing up the real word in my head. So I've made up words like Purillium, Platheoria, Delisoar, Gaak, Morphophon, etc. My user name is one of them.

Is it weird that when I look at this, all I see is Po and think of finding exponential growth and such? [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] I also spot a pi and a messed up lamda, so I'm kinda stuck in a math rut.

I was mainly trying to do what Larikang said and make a topologically unique alphabet. [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] page king?
Evenies, based off of Cyrillic but with less punctuation and no capitals or vowels, letters interconnected where possible.
Daimao and I speak an obscure concoction that is largely a mixture of Dutch and English. It was never officially arranged or started, it comes about naturally. Most words are translated back and forth and have contorted so that they rhyme with words that are often used around it. It's also mixed with inside jokes and curse words. I can give a few examples: "Ohalo Daimao" = "Hi Daimao" "Doma doma kom op stoma" = "Hi Daimao." (On Steam) "Brbeten" = "Be right back, I'm going to get some dinner." "Brbouchen" = "Be right back, I'm going to take a shower." "Mist" = "I'm gonna go now, see you tommorow." "Knogub" (adjective) = "Done in a particularly clever or successful way." "Knogub" (noun) = "A person who is currently enjoying the results of an accomplishment." "Horizon" = "The state of being successful." / "A gathering of successful people." "Lopen naar de horizon" = "Enjoying an accomplishment."
My language is exaktly like English exsept there is no letter 'c'. Where there would be a letter 'c' there is either a 's' or 'k' depending on the intended sound. Its pretty genius.
I want to start making a language, but I have no idea where to start. Someone should make a guide or something to doing it, or at least a few guidelines or something.
I've created a runic language which went by the principle of meanings per rune instead of by character like the alphabet. The concept was that 1 meaning joins onto another and a bigger/lesser meaning is established from that.

I'm not as much into languages, more into alphabets. I can write matoran, tengwar, north german runes and when it comes to languages I really don't have my own. Well, not an actual language. More of a quiet, body language thing. A certain posture can mean twenty different things but then cross one finger and the other knows exactly what you mean. I also talk in this uh, odd shit language called Vis. Basically, every other word is vis and you speak it like this: Vou yis vake tis vhe tis vast lis vee thris vor is vour fis vers lettis vom fris vas i vord wis.
actually very useful for cheat sheets
Cheat sheets? You mean in like a test? Voa whis, I ver nevis vought this vof is vat this.
I have a language started. At the moment, I have three base vowels each with three sound modifiers for a total of nine vowels/variations.
I want to start making a language, but I have no idea where to start. Someone should make a guide or something to doing it, or at least a few guidelines or something.
This is what I did, and it worked out quite well for me. Start off by thinking about what principals your language will follow. What is the grammar like? Extremely confusing and irregular, or simple and consistent? Do words come together as compounds, or do words stay apart with a word like "of" between them? If you start off by thinking about what you want it to be like, you'll have it easier when actually creating it. As you continue and start to understand the grammar yourself, you will end up making many changes which make sense to you. Eventually, the logic behind the language should make sense, and then you have to do the horribly slow task of thinking up words for the thousands of nouns (unless you have some other method?)
A few years ago, I had to do some shitty assignment where we give every letter of our name a word that says something good. Since my name, Connor, has the letter o twice, and not a whole lot starts with o, I had to invent my own language on the spot and use that instead. I wound up using Ootstenphen, which means "Hell if I know"
This is how you'd write "Danteon", a common male informal name, in my conlang Yahane. The writing system is a featural alphabet, like Korean, so each little symbol stands for a syllable, but each symbol is made up of parts that individually stand for vowels and consonants, like letters, so The black part is the main consonant, with a long tail at the end of it. For syllables without a starting consonant, this part is replaced by a single straight line. The gray part is an optional diacritic that "sharpens" the consonant. The blue part of it, composed of one or two variously-shaped lines crossing over the tail of the consonant, is the vowel. The red part is the optional ending consonant, with the long tail end replaced with a crooked, downward-pointing line. Word order is Object, Subject, Verb. This sentence translates to "the face of Ilaksh boils." To say that the face of something is boiling is an idiom that means that that 'something' is fucking insane.
http://zompist.com/kit.html or http://conlang.org/ seem like good resources for getting into this sort of stuff.
