Every parody of something dumb is going to be dumb. There's no getting around that so it's pointless to bring up.
Parody on stupid shit being monetized should not be monetized, that's the point I was trying to convey.
why is this guy so inexplicably bad at videogames, he can't even make that simple jump and he tries like 3 times
WTF Is...the point of totalbiscuit's sweaty existance
Though i do disagree with how serious he took it and following the whole "TURN THIS INTO A FULL GAME" hype, i only played 30 minutes so far and i am already pretty much done for it.
total biscuit hates everything that isn't super srs all the time, i give zero fucks about him, or any other game "reviewer" because I play games to...
*gasp*

Let me sum up Goat Simulator, in a few paragraphs:
It's pretty much a stupid game for people who like stupid games. Doesn't mean it's bad, doesn't mean it's worth/not worth $10 based off of anything other than your own personal opinion. It's a dumb game made because dumb games can be fun, with bugs left in because they can be funny and entertaining to some people.
Personally, I find random physics bugs and nonsensical gameplay to be hilarious and entertaining. That's why I'm going to buy it sometime soon. Plus, $10 for something so amazingly retarded isn't a bad price, when you think about it. For the cost of a decent lunch, you get a few hours of buggy weird fun.
Some people don't want any bugs, some people don't want a storyless sandbox, and some people want a game with more substance. If you're one of these people, a gloriously idiotic, buggy-ass joke game like Goat Simulator isn't for you, and that's okay.
Why is this discussion even a thing with this game, it was a gag game that people LITERALLY ASKED TO PURCHASE.
It's a joke, that's literally the entire point. Even if you don't find it entertaining, the point is that a lot of people did, and that's why this game is for sale. The game hasn't claimed to be anything more than something they threw together in a few weeks that people ended up wanting.
Like shit, what kind of high horse do you have to be on to take this as anything else other than a joke project that some people get a kick out of?
Still a better game than Desert Gunner.

Which means you've never watched TB's videos because there's plenty of games he's enjoyed. As mentioned earlier, he enjoyed OFDP, he absolutely loved Shadow Warriors, there's tons of games out there like that. And if a reviewer didn't point out the flaws in something, then everything would be like IGN and get a high score even though it sucks.
I don't necessarily disagree with him on the quality of content, but I have 4.2 hours on record and still have stuff I haven't done and am laughing my ass off at it. I just think that going into a game to review it he's taking it a bit too seriously and it loses a lot of its charm that way. That and he goes on about bugs not being funny if they're intentional - the bugs in this game weren't intentional, they just didn't fix them. Big difference there, I mean it's not really a bug if you put it in intentionally.
I don't really mind Goat Simulator, but I hope this doesn't start a trend. If this game becomes popular enough I'm afraid we might see a lot more intentionally buggy games that take less effort than functional games.
So? It's fun. Would probably get old fast but you don't have to buy them so who does it hurt
So far the only two games to have done this were Surgeon Simulator and Goat Simulator, both of which having started as joke games. Surgeon Simulator is rather superior to the goat game though.

It's a better made game but that didn't stop me from quitting after a half hour and never touching it again, whereas I managed to get 5 hours out of Goat Simulator and never got bored.
For a game that didn't try I certainly had more fun with it than a lot of the ones that do, and that's saying something.
I don't mind some of these silly simulators but would it hurt them to try and make realistic simulators so I can actually play around with some of the tools. I used to love messing around in crocodile chemistry making stuff change colours/explode or set on fire seemingly randomly and likewise building stuff in garrysmod and watching it break when the physics go apeshit. Doesn't mean these silly simulators are bad but I'd love them to try a bit harder.

what makes it boring is that it's not random
i actually agree with him for the most part
There's a game called Woodcutter Simulator. I think we have plenty of real simulation games.
The "WTF Is" series has always been videos where TB analyzes games that come out on steam targeted at people who care about PC optimization in games, and want to know what a game is all about before purchasing it.
Despite what you or the developers say about the game being "a joke game" etc the video achieves it's purpose.
I really like one of the things he said:
It's not a sandbox, it's a theme park.
Don't forget that there's full modding capability; someone could, theoretically, make a larger map with tons more interactivity than in the basemap. That wasn't the original purpose, of course, but it's at least a positive. The fact it has workshop makes it worth the 10 bucks, at least for me.

I wouldn't forget that given that it's something the OP video remarked on multiple times
I think he missed the part where the game was originally a joke and it's fans who insisted on the game being actually made and sold.
That's a shitty argument to make against a negative review, it's irrelevant when the game is on steam and you're charging money for it.
TB makes videos for consumers, not for entertainment.

Eh, I'm rather repetitive.
"It's funny because it's shitty!", no... It's just shitty. This game has somehow managed to be less funny than the Let's Players playing it.

I've had a lot of fun with this game so i'd say it's not shitty

There's also the fact he judges the replayability of a game with workshop support, three days after its official release. Of course it may be bare bones when no mods have come in yet.
Garry's mod is sold for 10 bucks too and the base game was pretty damn bare at release.

You could actually build things in Garry's mod when it hit the shelves. Take away the physgun, the ability to spawn props and the tools and you'd be left with a hollow shell pretty much like this game.

The way you interpret a game will WIDELY change based on its pricetag, the intent behind it, the developers who made it and a lot of other factors. You simply can't judge a game the same way if it's been developed for five years and is sold full price by a major company as the next big thing or if it's a joke title sold for ten bucks after a joke got pushed by fans.
Every single one of TB's points on the technical side of things stands its ground perfectly and I agree on all of them. The game shits itself pretty badly when too much stuff happens and it can directly impact the fun you have with the game, but for the rest, I'm actually ready to say TB was simply not in the right mood/mindset to enjoy the game.
Again, the point of WTF IS videos is that they're essentially just one big opinion piece where he explains how the game does or does not appeal to him as a PC gamer and a consumer. Part of the viewer's implications is to take a step back and ask themselves, "is this observation relevant to my own interests ?". TB saying the game is not funny won't make the game suddenly not funny, and if someone looks at a physics game with goats bouncing around on a trampoline and finds it funny, TB saying "that sucks" in the background won't change shit. I just wanted to point out that maybe he would have appreciated the game a bit more if he had taken it less seriously, as some games should.
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Yeah but 10 bucks for basically two maps with a bunch of tools was slightly expensive, even more when you realize that at the time you actually needed to buy other source games for it to work properly (speaking of which, the CS:S/Garry's Mod pack is still like 25€ on steam, wtf valve).
Pretty sure if TB had been around when GMOD first hit steam he would have dissed the fuck out of the game as well.
I agree with him that bugs are only funny when they aren't intended
i disagree completely. bugs can be funny - but let's be real, the funniest buggy games are the ones that are notoriously buggy - ie, stalker and the elder scrolls games.
other games if you've got clipping or other weird shit like that, TB would be flipping the fuck out. so would i to be honest, because it just reeks of lazy. it's only when the game is filled to the brim with bugs that you can take a step back relax and accept them
[editline]3rd April 2014[/editline]
i definitely agree with certain things that he says tho, especially the complete disregard of the goat
sometimes it's funny, but the game would definitely benefit from having some sort of chaos element to it, if pedestrians ran away (better), if there was a sort of animal control that tried to chase you, etc
no one will give a shit about this game next month
