have fun holy shit
That isn't true at all
I'm not a big fan of TB's "WTF Is..." series anymore, for the most part. He has some genuine complaints, but he gets ridiculously nitpicky about stuff. After hearing him rage about FOV sliders in every other video for the first ten minutes of each video, I stopped watching these videos.
Goat Simulator isn't a good game, and I don't know why he expected it to be a properly-optimized non-piece-of-youtuber-bait-shit. It wasn't even a game at first, it was just an afterthought.
That said, $10 for it is a bit much. But, like most joke/parody games, you can expect it to be $5 or less on sale in a month or two, at which point it might actually be worth getting for the hell of it.
Like he's said, this game is pure Pewdipie-bait. It's a nonsensical game with an hour or so of content that youtubers can make their funny videos about, and that's it. It's not really meant to be played. The hilarity comes from watching funny people play it and be funny.

Or you can be an interesting enough person that you manage to amuse yourself with it and not have to count on other people to do it for you

You know this is the guy that loves old school fps games and gimmick decks in Hearthstone right?
Keep in mind what he says is opinion, I'm not sure why you care the game is already an internet phenomenon anyway.

Proof?
Proof?
How about what I said in the post above?
I would have liked it more if it was a free game, or 99p, but not £6.99
Or you can be an interesting enough person that you manage to amuse yourself with it and not have to count on other people to do it for you
But you can do it with actual games that have gameplay. You know, like downloading a phys_ map for garrysmod and toying with it. for free.
Also, the way he describes how he wanted this game to be actually reminds me of Postal 2 in terms of gameplay, minus the physics. Postal 2 is pretty much a goat simulator done right.
Or you can be an interesting enough person that you manage to amuse yourself with it and not have to count on other people to do it for you
Because there's a ton of room for creativity in a game where your only interactions are jumping, attacking, and clumsily grabbing inanimate objects. This isn't a Garry's Mod style game where you make your own fun. It's a dumb joke where the comedy comes from cheap references with the pretence of "I'm playing as a goat lol, just unlocked Tall Goat, it's a giraffe."
Goat Simulator is the definition of trying too hard
This is where I think it goes wrong. It's supposed to "not try at all" by leaving bugs in and shit and still it tries so hard. Sure it's funny at bits, I had my share of laughs from watching jim sterlings video of it, but it's the kind of game you don't need to actually play yourself, you can just watch a 15 minute video and thats pretty much all the game has to offer to you.
This is why I encourage everyone who doesn't have this game to watch a video or a stream of it and use the ten of your currency on a nice lunch or drugs.
and use the ten of your currency on a nice lunch or drugs.
Words to live by.

It is the norm though. His WTF is Portal 2 video painted him clear as water.
It does bother me a little that Goat Simulator has stayed on top of the top sellers list ahead of other more polished and playable games and Rust.
I thought the game was funny looking, but it's absolutely not a game I'm going to spend money on though.
I really don't know what people expected. TB is certainly right in many regards. The critics are valid if you judge it as any other game on the market. However maybe he took it a bit too serious.
Also I think people should calm their horses, no, the gaming industry isn't going to "crash" because of this game.

Gonna have to make a choice here
And as someone said this game is mostly a gimmick thing. It'll fade away after people have had their fun with it.
Still a better game than Desert Gunner.
Better then Dragon Age 2
What people have to grasp is that TotalBiscuit doesn't tell you if YOU will enjoy the game. He can't know what you'll like or not like. He tells you if he enjoys it and more importantly: why he enjoys it.
He expects his audience to be smart enough to listen to his arguments and decide for themselves if they will enjoy the game and if it's worth the price. I watched his Octodad video and while he didn't particularly like it, I knew I'd have a huge fuckton of fun playing in coop mode with 3 friends (I really recommend doing this btw). He really liked some turn based RPG though (don't remember the name) and I knew that I wouldn't like it because that's not my kind of game.
Proof?
MGR is one of his favourite games and it's the least serious game ever.
Like he's said, this game is pure Pewdipie-bait. It's a nonsensical game with an hour or so of content that youtubers can make their funny videos about, and that's it. nah i actually disagree
my opinion on humor is basically the polar opposite of the "LOLLOLLOL" random shit - i enjoy slower, calmer, more satirical and dry comedy
i still have a good amount of fun in this game, and have logged 3-4 hours in it off 10 bucks
there's a critical component of games that's partially the fault of the game and partially the fault of the audience - you need to be able to immerse yourself in the game itself. this is where tb sorta fucked up with this video - if you try to make yourself above the humor, and try to not work into the fun of the game, you won't have fun. in that way, it's sort of dependent upon the individual just chilling the fuck out and not taking the game seriously - if you don't take the game seriously and just have fun with the sandbox that's in front of you, experiment, you can actually entertain yourself for a pretty reasonable amount of time for the price.
he's also quite correct in that the game is in effect a "hidden object" game - the majority of the fun isn't doing the dumb wacky shit, it's completing the challenges and finding the secrets that are in the game - like completing the pentagram, getting into space, finding what's at the top of the goat tower, getting into the storage container that's held up by the crane, finding a playable videogame within the videogame, collecting the collectibles, all that shit
the fun of the game isn't just "WA WA WEE WAA FUN HILARIOUS SPINNING AND SPASMING" that's a part that adds an element of ridiculousness to the game core itself, which is very much reminiscent of old school collector games like banjo kazooie, etc
before i awake a hate train no i'm not comparing this in quality to banjo kazooie
I sort of feel like this is a new excuse for not being able to critique games, first it was early access and now it's to make a bad game on purpose so it's immune from criticism. I'm all for any kind of game being made and played but I don't understand why people get angry when someone tries to critique it.

You realize you're arguing with someone who actually played it and gave it a shot right
It has plenty of substance for the price tag but people don't look past the surface and even try, if you dismiss it as a one-off joke because it's not a typical game no shit you aren't going to like it

Yeah that's why one of his favorite games ever is God Hand... riiiight.
I have to say I agree with him partially. He may took it a bit too serious, but then again this is still a product that is sold at a 10$ price point, joke game or not.

A joke that was well worth $10 to me. I've said it everywhere else. He makes some valid points, but literally all of his critical ones were know WELL before the game came out on the blatantly posted FAQ for the games order. Steam page even says don't buy it if you expect much.
