I thought meat that's halaled was given that label because an imam looked over the way the animal is killed and said "yep, that's fine" rather than any change on the part of the meat producers...
The animals have all their blood drained out of them to kill them, a slow and painful death

Are you sure? I heard that the method no longer mattered, only that the death must be painless...
So my town has a meme page (Stoke Memes if you're interested). Earlier today they shared a video from one of those vigilante paedo-hunter types who masqueraded as (allegedly) a 13 year old girl to get some guy to meet up for sex, the video's getting loads of attention because the guy is brown skinned
Not defending what's he's apparently done, but the racist old cunts pouring out of the woodwork has left me at my wit's end, just a barrage of derogatories and "send him back home" and the classic 60 year old woman who describes in detail how he should have his balls cut off and then be hung or some shit, but she leaves a little xx at the end so everyone knows she's a sweetheart really
Truly incredible how many of these people can't spell and have a profile picture of a union jack with some shit like "I voted for independence!" in meme text.
Googled it, it seems to be a case of whether the animal is stunned before death by throatcutting. And as far as I found there's no saying on the package whether or not a certain producer stuns or not.

Understandable
Frigging everyone from Uni on my facebook has had their results an hour ago and I'm sat here having a panic attack waiting for mine.

turns out you were never enrolled the whole time surprise

:L Where'd you get that from? Something like 90% of all halal meat is stunned before the throat cutting and the throat cutting itself would cause unconsciousness in seconds for those that weren't already stunned.

Jokes on you I got a 2:1

There's no way to distinguish which animals were stunned and which weren't. It's kinda disgusting to be honest, even if they are stunned.

Why is it disgusting though? Oh no their throat was cut and they lost consciousness almost instantaneously how barbaric! I'm so disgusted the blood isn't left in the carcass it's disgusting how they drain the thing!
I definitely think there should be a way of distinguishing between stunned halal and non-stunned halal (and similarly, stunned and non-stunned Kosher meat).
I have no problem with stunned halal as the animal is unconscious and feels no pain - the cutting of the jugular then quickly kills and exsanguinates the animal. It is a pretty humane way of killing an animal and preparing it for carving.
On the other hand, non-stunned halal & Kosher can be pretty cruel: all it takes is a trainee to screw up and the animal doesn't loose consciousness, causing an enormous amount of distress and pain as the animal bleeds to death.
I don't think animals should feel unnecessary pain - seeing as stunning is an option they should use it. As a consumer, I think there is an ethical difference between stunned and non-stunned & I should be able to make an informed decision as to which type of halal/ Kosher meat I buy.

I'm not sure what part you find disgusting? Is it the method of killing them or is it the bleeding the carcass dry?
If its the draining of the blood then bear in mind that all meat is bled before it is carved - that's why they hang them up on meat hooks in abattoirs.

Method of killing. I think it's inhumane. I don't have an issue with exsanguination after the death of the animal. Like you said, there's no way to determine which animals are stunned which is why I try to avoid it.
I lost my National Insurance Number because instead of receiving an actual card all I got was a shitty letter which I seem to have misplaced somewhere due to how unremarkable it was. Since I'm living in Sweden now I had to send an application letter to H&M Revenue & Customs, I waited 2 weeks for an answer, and the answer is that I don't have a National Insurance Number :v:.
Of course that's wrong, it appears the issue stems from how, in traditional Spanish fashion, I have a first, middle and two last names, which is utterly confusing because I only use my first name and -first- last name for all intents and purposes, yet my name is legally that long. So despite me being probably the only UK citizen with my combination of first and last name and despite me writing my full legal name in the application, whoever took my case couldn't find me because they didn't get what to search for.

All religions have tenants and taboos relating to food. Food and sex are two things that give religion a lot of control over their adherant's lives. Whether it's Lent, Ramadan, or starving Buddhist monks it's one thing they all have in common.
Weird shit

if the price of Freddos keeps rising, could you hypothetically invest in a large quantity of them and then turn a profit?
So, this is just a bit of an update on that grave I discovered in my town. Had some delightful people on a WWI forum help me out with research and discovered the following about the gentleman
As well, it turns out his officer's records are still safe at the National Archives at Kew, although have not yet been digitized and I'll be asking if any members of that forum who can (and do) visit the archives will be able to locate his for me.
Also, a question people here might be able to answer: I'm trying to discover the specific location of "Frogmoor House" as it seems it no longer exists. idk if there's anyone here familiar with the area but it's worth asking. A book from the late 19th century seems to indicate it was a hamlet - although I'm not sure if it was part of "Moor Park" located to the south-east of Rickmansworth.
The historical society got back in touch with me

Doing some more digging.
From the geography of the area, I suspected that Frogmoor House was probably on the edge of the Moor Park estate; this is typical for houses of the era.
Digging into the history of Moor Park House, it seems that this was where Operation Market Garden was organised. Quite an interesting aside.
What's more interesting is the origin of Moor Park House. Apparently it was once part of an even bigger estate (these medieval lords didn't do things in half measures!) called The More. This was roughly where the river Colne is to the north, next to where the preparatory school is now.
There's mention of another house being built on a hill to the south west after The More was ruined. It is possible that this is Frogmoor House. This house was eventually replaced by what is Moor Park House, however it's not clear if it means replaced in the sense that one house was demolished or rather the Lord moved into Moor Park House.
Interesting shit. I'm quite enjoying this.
I'd recommend heading over to Moor Park House and looking at the records there with regards to the household staff.
Lads, trying to get from Newcastle to Birmingham without breaking the bank. I fuckin hate the coach but it seems the only way right now, since trains are £52 a ticket. Any advice?
