we were on a mad one once & the guy in our local kebab shop let us smoke a joint inside
"let us" is a loose definition but it happened
Anyone here who has worked retail / warehouse operative jobs for Tesco able to give me a run-down on what to expect, work wise?
In dire need of cash and don't want to turn to my parents like some disabled person. I've applied for both a customer assistant role and a warehouse operative role, just no idea what to expect.

I do hope that's a typo.

Maybe he meant rely? But even then...
Poor choice of words, I was gonna use invalid. Either one is kinda tactless.
Basically I don't want to leech off of my parent's cause of laziness, I'd rather get out there and work and get money myself. So does anyone have any personal stories to tell about working for Tesco?
I worked for Tesco. It's alright I suppose. I imagine it's the same as any shop, they'll employ anyone so don't worry about your cv too much.
I started on the electrical section, flogging TVs and sending shoppers to cheaper shops. Working with customers isn't too bad, the worst customers are upset middle age women.
I transferred to another store and worked night shifts. That mostly involved stacking shelves. But I used to start earlier than the rest of night crew and would have to bring all (40+) of the backstock cages to the floor in a shitty lift that broke if you put more than 2 cages in it. I would also receive the evening delivery, this was normally a full wagon and emptying is tiring, the driver's are normally Eastern European or English, the English drivers are mostly miserable while the Eastern Europeans are quite cheerful and happy to help you unload. I imagine that's what you'd be doing on the warehouse staff job, as well as cleaning up and making sure stuff is in the right place. Warehouse work is quite good because you can more easily piss about and go for a wander/hide (I'd give it a while before doing this)
The stores are full of arse lickers and sycophants and is also quite cliquey in terms of managers, team leaders and their suck ups (I'm sure working in any supermarket is the same), although you will find management/team leaders who are on a level and don't go in for the bullshit.
Pay and benefits isn't bad, when I was working there it was the best paying supermarket apart from Aldi and Lidl. I used to get 10% discount, I'm not sure if they still offer that to new staff though, there's shares schemes for discounted (?) shares
Reading that back makes it sound like it was really bad, but it wasn't really. I was rather jaded and probably suffering some night shift related mental illness when I left, but I worked there for 5 years so it couldn't have been that bad.
Go for it, at the end of the day a job's a job. And who knows you might thrive in that environment.
god being on jsa for so long is just sapping my self esteem, fucking ONE STOP turned me down fucking 7 months this has gone on what kind of retard must i be if i cant get a job with fucking ripoff coop?

That was awesome, thanks man. Aldi warehouse job looked super cushy, and they pay a ridiculous amount for night shift (about £10-11 an hour), but the nearest depot that's accepting applications is an hour's commute away.
Fingers crossed I get the mindless warehouse drone job at Tesco.
For future reference, disabled people can get jobs and don't have to rely on their parents.

Can confirm, am a disabled person and I work shitty jobs like everyone else.
Why are post offices open at such shit hours. I missed a parcel I ordered on Thursday, I paid for 1-2 day delivery expecting it to arrive on Saturday except lolol parcel force don't work Saturdays unless you pay even more.
So now I've missed it because I'm work, that's okay I'll get it tomorrow morning before work. Oh wait the post office is only open 9-5.
So my options are either be late to work tomorrow, finish work early or wait until Saturday as I'm away.

The only day they don't shut at 5 is Saturday when they shut at midday instead

Can also confirm they can go to university if they want too.
Just got back from Kendall Calling, never would I have expected a full blown moshpit during a Beach Boys set.
'God Only Knows' started and everyone fucking freaked.
I can also confirm non-disabled people can sit around doing fuck all too

Amazon and their locker service is a godsend. Mine's in a local Spar which is open 7am to 11pm every day of the week. Belting
Genuinely didn't think my disabled comment would offend people that much?
Seconding the Amazon Locker comment. I get all my stuff stuff sent to the local newsagents which is open til crazy late every day, so I can pick it up whenever.

"In dire need of cash and don't want to turn to my parents like some disabled person"
"Basically I don't want to leech off of my parent's cause of laziness"
Basically implied that disabled person were lazy, instead of you know, having a disability that could potentially prevent them from working.
I understood what he meant and knew there was no harmful intent in what he said.
Guess some people are more touchy than others.

Yeah what he meant was 'disabled people are lazy and cannot get jobs'
Yeah what he meant was 'disabled people are lazy and cannot get jobs'
Are you serious?? Even if you thought his post was malicious that wasn't what he meant... You either must be a troll or a headcase
Yeah what he meant was 'disabled people are lazy and cannot get jobs'
Thanks for proving my theory!
I knew it wasn't malicious, it was just a dumb way of putting it and I felt like being a bastard.
I'm pretty sure he just used an atrocious example and put his point across really poorly tbh.
Also I had a parcel due to be collected by Hermes today and no-one showed up.
That doesn't surprise me, they're not known to be the best courier service.
Hermes drivers are almost always bumbling house wives who've fallen foul of the gig economy
