Who's been selling my phone? Had a text past week from Tax UK last week asking for bank details, had a missed call in the night apparently that one's based in the Seychelles and I just had a call from a lass, apparently I've had an accident
Be born rich so you can go private and look down on the NHS-using leeches.
it doesn't really work that way a lot of medical insurers like BMI and Nuffield tell you to use NHS A&E
My mate used to work in a hospital doing stuff with blood samples, he used to put samples from private medical insurers at the back of his queue [editline]14th March 2017[/editline] His reasoning was that they probably thought they were better than to use the NHS or something like that
What's your phone number
079173619163 [editline]14th March 2017[/editline] [sp]that's not actually my number[/sp]
ordering you a chippy now you could have avoided this

It is very amusing when I get the "You've been in a car accident recently" calls and I'm just like. "I don't own a car" and then they just turn into a um and err mess.
I get these all the time, welcome to putting your number into a service one day then finding out they sell their database years later.
I've had my number for about 8 years* now so I've done alright to only start getting them *it's only been in the last month or so that I've actually learnt it
I've had my number for about 8 years* now so I've done alright to only start getting them *it's only been in the last month or so that I've actually learnt it
I'd say lucky if more than anything. Mentioning cold callers the ones who keep calling me are the same people, its pretty obvious of the scam they're trying to run with the whole car crash claim bullshit. But what gets me is that they rent out a building for at least a month, do these scam calls from them, then move to another property and repeat, their issue is they keep using the same call list they have everytime. I've actually started to recognise them right away when they call because I know their voices now, last time they called I just said "you again" and got a "oh fuck" response followed by a hangup. :v:
one time that I got a call they were asking about ppi "do you have or have had ppi?" "my doctor says i don't have any stds" that usually stops them
get on the TPS
I never get scam called because I don't have a phone
I don't know where my phone number has been shared but I average 2-3 scam calls of all types per day, I always Google numbers before I answer and add them to auto reject lists but its all different numbers each day.
If you really want to mess with cold callers you can always pretend you are deaf. It's hilarious.

And back in the hospital, I was supposed to go to the GP but I can't even walk today :v:
wow what a top guy, totally not prejudiced at all
He's a scouser and a nob but my boy. He went to a private school on a scholarship and I think getting called a povo every week left a mark on him

One of my friends from college told me he got a call like that once, and kept leading them on before dropping the bomb: "I'm on Linux" (they immediately hung up). An hour and a half wasted for them, but at least it kept them away from other, potentially gullible people for an hour and a half. Could have been worse though. I've seen a MalwareBytes Blog video with one of them [scam artist from an obvious call centre in India who made no attempt whatsoever to hide his real IP] remote controlling the 'test PC' and when the guy is lead on, he decides to try and brick the PC by disabling all the services and restarting the PC (under the impression the guy recording it all doesn't know what's happening). Of course, this same clueless guy from Bangladesh denies it until he's told it's all being recorded and a shitstorm ensues about how he should have been 'asked' about it first.

Turns out it's probably Tendinitis, inflamed foot tendons, I've been given crutches and they say the pain should start to go away in a week or so if I take stuff like ibuprofen. Turns out walking up hills with crutches is a nightmare
Pretty sure the council is to blame for all the cold calls I used to get. There's a great big "WE WILL SELL YOUR DETAILS" on their voter registration forms.
Tbf I don't mind cold calls as much as the charity people who knock on the door after 8pm. This is my time and besides if I gave money to everyone who knocked on the door I wouldn't have any money for myself. And they try to guilt you all "your neighbours have been really generous etc". I just tell them I'm busy now so they don't waste their time [editline]14th March 2017[/editline] And if you don't start a charity fund thing, they keep putting bits of paper through the door asking for more
Does this happen to anyone else... Nobody is watching the tv, so I turn it on and immediately people walk into front room and ask if anything else is on. It's a common occurence in my house and it drives me mad.
Pretty sure the council is to blame for all the cold calls I used to get. "Oh yeah you can vote but we're gonna sell your info to all these companies if you do. What's that, democracy? Nah fuck it."

Ever since I moved into a house for uni and had to deal with the council for bills I've noticed a lot of cold calls from my local area.

And no, you can't ask them to knock it the fuck off.
it doesn't really work that way a lot of medical insurers like BMI and Nuffield tell you to use NHS A&E
Yep, no money in emergency care, it's a massive cost sink. Maintaining a full trauma centre such as St George's, with HEMS, trauma to CT, a 10 bay resus department and theatre prepped 24/7 is incredibly expensive. Keeping a full complement of staff, equipment and all of that for variable demands, pelvic surgeon on call, plastics on call, radiologist hot reporting, stroke team and cardiac cath labs prepped and such. Even a smaller district general hospital's A&E is incredibly expensive, even if it has limited facilities such as just x-ray, and they refer resus cases and trauma via blue light ambulances to a specialist centre. Most private stuff tends to be either having NHS treatments but staying on a private ward, or outpatient stuff, which can use private scanners and such, (MRI being the main thing here), but a good bit of it is done in NHS departments, by NHS staff, and the private provider pays the hospital for it. It's common for doctors to have their NHS list, and a couple of cases on the side, and while the private might get a bit more time with the doctor, they put the exact same amount of effort into their surgeries and such!
What were you doing? I was doing a games development degree at a college 4-5 years ago and I quickly realized it was basically a scam...The lecturers had no industry experience, no idea what they were on about and the course content was completely outdated and nothing used was industry standard. Dropped out and did a few years of an apprenticeship for a big tech company, that seems to be the way forward now. Starting on a £20k salary with decent yearly increases, plenty of training opportunities and lots of perks and they would have paid for me to do a software engineering degree if I wanted to after the apprenticeship was over. Was the best decision I ever made even though I don't work there anymore, gave me tons to put on my CV (Enough that I don't even need to mention that I was an apprentice because I was doing just as much if not more than plenty of colleagues that had been there for 10+ years) Stuff like BAE Systems, Capgemini, Accenture etc etc, as long as you aren't a moron and can write a bunch of rubbish in an application they don't seem to be that hard to get on to. Since it's apprenticeships you don't even need to be qualified, like I said just the ability to write a load of junk on applications and maybe do a few free online courses on the subject just to show you are extra keen. Big companies have realized that a lot of young people aren't actually that stupid, and if you hire the right kids you can pay them a salary of £20k and find they will learn very quickly and begin to outperform people who are being paid 2-3x more than them. One reasons I left is because I felt like I was being undervalued after a few years, a few of my friends quit just before me and their few years of experience there landed them jobs in the £35-40k range straight away.
fair enough, been looking at apprenticeships myself, was thinking something mechanic-oriented but preferably not like the one in the inbetweeners that Will does work experience at I was doing foundation year computing, came from a college course called "networking & digital forensics" in which the digital forensics part was supposed to include coding. instead of coding we just did a bunch of reports on networks and IT in business, and I got so sick and tired of it that my results dropped massively and I was put into the aforementioned foundation year. from that point basically just lost all interest in computing myself
