Top Ten Shittiest Games of 2015 (The Jimquisition)

Yahtzee's opinions tend to overlap with mine and he's a cool guy besides.
But his influence is quite minimal outside reviewing games. Not that many people listen to the podcasts which is where he actually comments on the industry and such.
I think the reason I always steered clear of skits in my own content (I had a couple of attempts in earlier videos but I don't feel like they worked) is because they do come across in a very 'unfunny' way to crowds like Facepunch. They're incredibly difficult to pull off, and often feel like they get in the way of something like a review.
Plenty of people I work with use them, and it can work for them, but I've just never completely been a fan. I enjoy simplicity. A quick joke here and there is what I feel works best. Skits most of the time seem to 'bloat' gaming content in my experience.

I think the issue is going in hard with the skits like Jim does only works for long-term fans (although as it stands even I'm getting bored of Jim as a whole).
Stuff like Redlettermedia is gold because it's so damn obvious it's a skit no one's going to make false assumptions.
Jims skits started to get out of hand once he started playing with that William Dafoe(or whoever the fuck it was supposed to be) doll in his vids. But I just skip them anyway soooo....
Dunno what happened, guess he started getting all that... swag for lack of a better word and felt the need to show it off. Jim, I love ya, but I don't give a fuck about the shit you own, just the shit you say.

It's clear that his "skits" are mostly self-denigrating jabs at how terrible his skits are (how meta!) but they go on for too long.
I can't speak to this video which was pretty bare-bones but his Jimquisitions range from good to excellent and if he focused on that content he'd be one of the best video game personalities. I'd suggest people stick with his written reviews if they find the skits annoying, the guy is clearly really intelligent and articulate when he isn't having sex with pogs

His reviews are very well written, and he has a clear score guide.
Can name a couple off the top of my head:
MrBTongue (< top notch shit)
Super Bunny Hop
Errant Signal
Noah Caldwell-Jervais
Satchbag (somewhat)
Al Russell
There's also Action Points and Extra Credits but they tend to add very little to the conversation.
Errant Signal kind of lost me with his "Bastion is about a bad breakup" review. I think reducing a story to such a banal allegory is rather pretentious, and insulting to all the subtle little bits of world-building.

Satchbag does a more coherent Errant Signal than Errant Signal very often. Though I will hand it to ES for his SimCity videos which were spot on.
Honestly I think Jim Sterling is just a hypocritical asshole. I had been thinking about it for a while but what really hit it home was the fact that Jim applauded Nintendo for backpedaling on the whole Tomodachi life thing (because he knows that people are generally fans of Nintendo) and then the next week tore Microsoft a new asshole the next week for backpedaling on the Kinect (because he knows people generally don't like Microsoft). He doesn't actually give a shit about the customer, all he cares is making money just like everyone else, and will distort the facts and views to get that money.

Dying Light mediocre? Seems kind of harsh.
I think if your whole internet persona is just to be a cynical critic of videogames you should lose weight. Is that wrong of me to say. He just looks like a pissed off fat guy, how can I take his opinions seriously.
He especially looks cringey with his sunglasses and gloves and shit. You can't pull a look like that off being as fat as him.

He reminds me of Garth Marenghi from Garth Margenhi's Darkplace

Well...if he were fit and well groomed and still pranced around thanking god for himself and playing with toys, my opinion wouldn't change. Then again, maybe his body image has molded his personality to eventually birth the mess we see on camera. Either way, he has something valuable to say about video games, and it would shape up to its absolute purest form if he got over himself completely. A task I am 100% sure is impossible for personalities of his type. His viewership should start a decline any year now, and then we get to enjoy his desperate spiral towards obscurity where he can look back and wonder if he spent his time well.

tbh noah has fallen from grace recently
tbh noah has fallen from grace recently
still not over that "rosenthal" mess
still not over that "rosenthal" mess
not actually sure what that is but OK I guess? wasn't what I was talking about. I just think he just isn't as good as he maybe is thought to be.

I never liked him in the first place. His cadence is really awkward and low quality. (also him fucking up a line and then saying it again)
maxbarnyard (who makes Great Levels in Gaming) is really good.
