Okay, I pointed out that there were logical contradictions in the bible such as:
Not interested in quotes, anything else? [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] also, this is a guess but I think some of them have to be taken in context with the other text around it.
Not interested in quotes, anything else?
I pointed out that Christianity discourages responsibility and functions on blackmail and bribery; do these things to enter heaven, don't do these things or you'll enter hell, but as long as you are truly sorry before you die, you are forgiven, which means you will not be held accountable for what you've done, no matter how horribly you treated people in your life. Not to mention it's conveniently set up to control poor people; "Being poor is okay, because as long as you are a good person and do everything that the church tells you to do, you will get a really good life when you die, so just don't rebel against the church and allow your life to be made shit by the ruling classes."
Read that all in Garrus' voice. I've seen this happen before. Theists get angry and their argument loses all cohesion because of the atheist, but atheists who try to form arguments to use against theists are borderline antitheist.
I've had atheists get angry at me without me even mentioning religion, they'll just purposefully bring it up to attack me.
fuck religion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (User was banned for this post ("This doesn't contribute to the debate." - rilez))
Let's try to avoid broad generalisation, this isn't true of all atheists just as all Christians aren't all douchebags.
Date of Birth January 5, 1980 (31) I somehow doubt this is true. Please tell me that you're 12 or something.. Why are you dedicating your life to something you don't even know about? You are the complete embodiment of ignorance.
Honestly what does that add to the debate? Ad hom attacks like that are incredibly immature and it tells a lot more about you than anyone else.

Good friend you are. How about, try relating to how he feels happy with his path and gain insight on why he feels the way he does. What made you feel it was right to preach him about his own path without being there with him? No sense is made.
I'd say he's probably right. Some people are "born and bred" religious and consider themselves religious but never go to church and fap daily anyway.
Having been brought up a Catholic and still believing in it, I can say that a lot of athiests do not have a big enough understanding to properly criticise certain religions in depth. Particularly on this forum.
You're saying it's ignorant to think that it doesn't happen.. but it's a truth. Discussions on the other hand... are enjoyable. You're talking about "debating", which is impossible when one person follows a path and the other hasn't. What could possibly be debated here? Give me a point that you made to start the debate with your friend.
I've had very many debates on religion, and afterwards I often feel more educated and fulfilled as a direct result of them.
Yeah, but you admitted you have little interest in religion (yet you're a Christian) so you wouldn't have much to say in a belief discussion.
I do, actually. I may not be the Christian in which you atheists think all of them are, but I am still a Christian. You may be wondering, "How is this guy a Christian?". The answer is simple. Now, I may not have read the Bible. But I do know that the Bible has many quotes from people in history. These people claim they saw Jesus come back to life and many other things. I believe in history more than I do science because history is more accurate than some scientific answers we have today. So, I do believe that I have at least some things to say in a beliefs discussion.
In my opinion both extremists and athiests do approach Religion with the mindset of hearing only what they want to hear, they largely pick up on things that go for their own agenda rather than the whole message, say, of the bible.
I've had very many debates on religion, and afterwards I often feel more educated and fulfilled as a direct result of them.
They probably were just discussions then... unless you were swayed which would be sad.
Also I think protestants are pretty foolish for solely relying on the bible for all their beliefs and knowledge. Such people as Luther totally rejected reasoning which is obviously ridiculous.

I personally think the Bible is contains a lot of ancient mythology incorporated well before the times of Romans and such, but if you believe it's a historical account of events then so be it. I can't and don't want to sway people because I myself don't know much about the Christian religion enough to discuss it. I myself am psychedelic.

Its rather counter-productive for having a good debate.

[editline]28th September 2011[/editline] Just like to point out that though the bible might be fictional (purely hypothetically), that doesn't necessarily disprove the existence of God. It just means that the bible is fictional
It would surely 99.9% invalidate the concept of a Christian God though, as there would be no reason to even consider it.
It would surely 99.9% invalidate the concept of a Christian God though, as there would be no reason to even consider it.
Either way, I think as long as you have 3 choices: Choice 1: Follow the bible literally word for word, in which case have fun gouging your eyes out and cutting off random limbs for committing sins. Choice 2: Choose which parts of the bible you believe in, in which case you're not really following the bible at all, just applying your own interpretation and morals to it. So really you aren't following the bible at all, since at the end of the day you're still choosing what you do. Choice 3: Don't believe any of the bible, in which case you make your own morals independently of its advice. Choices 2 and 3 are effectively the same; you're just deciding on your own morals and following your own free will. It's when people go with Choice 1, or they go with choice 2 but have a twisted sense of morality that we have a problem (in my opinion) [editline]28th September 2011[/editline]
True, they act as if they're worthy to comment about the world when all they do is start an arguement and cause misery rather than be willing to discover more about people. [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] You gonna tell your friend that too eh?
My friend had no trouble trying to blackmail me into his faith by saying how I was going to burn for all eternity in never-ending suffering for not believing in what he did, so I don't really have any problems with suggesting that his religious text isn't entirely true, no.
It's interesting how Hinduism and Buddhism have next to no arguements. That's because most of the things they have to say apply to modern science (the world being uncreated) as well as society. There ethics are more in terms of how you live your life and how you think.
If you guys can stomach it... here's the full 19 minute interview from the OP.
That was fucking unbearable to watch, instead of that dimwitteted cunt actualy shutting the fuck up and answering his questions calmly, logicaly and properly, the deluded whore went and spoke straight over him disallowing any posibility of him raising a point. Was she really that defensive, or just so brainwashed into believing that bullshit she can't pull her head our of her ass and actualy contemplate reality for once! I'm going to go and grind my balls off, I do not want any potential future children growing up in a world where fucktards like that havn't been institutionalized.

That's simply worthless. Do you by any chance watch Pat Condell's videos?

Many atheists, including myself, were once religious and so have a good knowledge of how religion works.
Okay, I pointed out that there were logical contradictions in the bible such as:
Forget it, your friend obviously isn't interested in logic, facts, and evidence. He sounds like he loves living in his little world of ignorance and doesn't want you to take it away from him with rational thinking.
facepunch atheists lmao
Do you enjoy spamming the same shitpost over and over again?
They probably were just discussions then... unless you were swayed which would be sad.
So first you say it's wrong that we don't debate things, but then that it would be bad if our opinions changed as a result? Don't really understand the discrepancy. I very rarely ever change my mind on something just like that, but discussion has certainly helped my ideas on metaphysics evolve. I've definitely refined my beliefs a lot more.
