It is..Beauty
This is pretty amazing, but they shouldn't take the faces straight from the actors — look at Brian Krause, it looks exactly like him but it's like the facemap is a low-res picture taken with a cellphone
Yeah, the main problem is that the facial animation is even too good. They still need to reach such smooth and realistic animation with the bodies before adding it to the faces.
I think the problem might also be that they record the facial movements and the actual motion capture separate, so it's pretty much pasting the face of an actor sitting still onto a moving body, which doesn't look right.
But I'm sure that they will fix a lot of things before the release
Exactly as a few people mentioned earlier, I prefer this over the graphics. I don't mind graphics on par with HL2 if the animations are brilliant, and the attention to other details is there. If the only thing against this game is low res textures and meh lighting, then I will certainly enjoy this. If the narrative and gameplay are killer, I don't care about the graphics (within reason, but this is just fine).
It's incredible but they need to work on the rest of the world being as realistic.
Glad to see it still says Spring. That's Q1 no?
Yeah, the textures are my biggest irk. They might want us to take black level to its full advantage, although.
This game will be great. Would have been better if it was released this year though.
That's it I'm buyin a fuckin PS3
Haha that's Walter from Fringe, or Denethor from LOtR or John Noble.
That's it I'm buyin a fuckin PS3
Do you have a 360 already, or...?
This game will be great. Would have been better if it was released this year though.
I can wait for a few more months. I'd rather wait a bit longer and get a more polished game.
Looks like something finally beat Half-Life 2. [editline]16th December 2010[/editline] The last scene looked almost real there.
Amazing, but I want this game on PC, ASAP.
Do you have a 360 already, or...?
why would you want a console with no games
The game looks beautiful, but i do have to admit, the facial animations are TOO good and make the rest of the animation seems a bit bad.
why would you want a console with no games
Har har.
Har har.
except it's true
Yeah, the main problem is that the facial animation is even too good. They still need to reach such smooth and realistic animation with the bodies before adding it to the faces.
the game is also still in development, so it doesn't really bother me that much unless the game looks like that when its done.
Give it 10 years. Holodecks.
the tech itself is cool, unique, and I'm sure very new, but hardly perfect. the texture detail, resolution, color range, and contrast levels are off, and the heads look more like they're just floating around rather than actually attached to the body. it also looks as though, because the heads aren't actually modeled, textured, or bump mapped by hand, the heads and faces actually appear to be of lower detail by standards set years and years ago, and would probably fit perfectly for a sports game, but not in an upclose cinematic execution or an over the shoulder shooter, in other words, not meant for this game. maybe it'll be perfected by release, but it looks like they're far along with development. again, the tech is very impressive, i'm just saying if they did it the traditional way it would both look better and more realistic, which is more or less ironic. [editline]16th December 2010[/editline]
the game is also still in development, so it doesn't really bother me that much unless the game looks like that when its done.
unless they decide to model and texture the actors by hand using the captures as a reference, and then applying the animations in a similar fashion, it's going to look this "bad" in the final product. [editline]16th December 2010[/editline]
It looks completely out of place, like using photorealistic textures in a cartoon--it just doesn't belong. And sure it has a lot more detail than what's typically done by manual animation, but this whole business of "lololol traditional animation cant capture emotions at all" is just bullshit. True, facial animation in games is always neglected or half assed, but outside of games it's entirely possible. Come to think of it, why is facial animation always given the short end of the stick in games? There's really no reason for it.
Depends ultimately on the developers, games and the characters. Half-Life 2 for example was praised for its facial animations when it came out, yet that facial animation doesn't really extend beyond the main characters. Gears of War has excellent facial animations, while Unreal Tournament 3, two very similar art styles and visual effects from the same developer on the same engine, has hardly any facial animations. The Metal Gear Solid series, since 2 of course, has always had excellent facial animations Most of Capcom's postRE4 titles have great facial animations as well, but again limited to main characters (of course typically main characters are the only humans) [editline]16th December 2010[/editline] on an added note to Gears of War, while having great facial animations, the characters for the most part have kind of a "tough" facial expression when at what would be neutral, its actually in the texturing, bumpmapping, and modeling, though it still has good facial animations
The last scene looks like a fucking movie, cannot wait for this, Rockstar will never cease to amaze me.
It literally looks like it was a real video with some filters slapped on, it looks that good
The last scene looks like a fucking movie, cannot wait for this, Rockstar will never cease to amaze me.
it's not developed by Rockstar
Look here's a screenshot of L.A. Noire oh wait huehuehuaehu
Those textures are so fucking shitty looking Jesus Christ, that's pretty much why this looks abnormal to everyone, this console shit is holding it back, the textures are basically zero, and the shaders are so flat. Having such high definition character facial animations in a world of fucking flat 2d graphic shit is very awkward to look at.
Even-though game is still in development. Brace for complaints.
Even-though game is still in development. Brace for complaints.
game releases sometime in the next 4-6 months, at this point in time they're just doing finishing touches
