elixwhitetail is a bit over zealous when it comes to SC but you clearly don't know that much about this game if you said it hadn't made any progress in the last 9 months when the last nine months has seen some of the most significant strides

I mean hell the FPS module was expected well over 6 months ago, and I don't see an FPS module in the game yet. Plus there was the whole drama shit that happened not too long ago where half the staff quit, or was it the founder?

He doesn't even think he did a bad thing lol. But no, despite them making progress, it is still but a dent in the overall scope of the game. The persistent universe, which is the KEY feature of all the game is still very early in development and that's where I truly believe this whole thing will fall apart. They've got this thing they call the "baby PU" now but it's nowhere near the scope of what they want to accomplish. My problem isn't that they aren't developing, they are, it's an expectation problem, it's an ambition problem, they haven't come close to expectations.
Also I don't mind the art team still working on nice looking ships, but the core dev team doesn't even have their shit together enough to produce a functional alpha, let alone a game, and we're 5 years in. [editline]27th March 2016[/editline] 4 years in if you wanna be a cockjockey about it.
I mean hell the FPS module was expected well over 6 months ago, and I don't see an FPS module in the game yet.
Kareah Station, and basically any time you're on foot shooting people in first person.

Alpha 2.3 just added two more fps weapons, on top of the existing three, to the baby PU. FPS combat is entirely possible there. The only thing that's missing is a round-based gamemode, two specific maps for the gamemodes, and the art assets for the scoreboard. It's also not nearly as necessary anymore, and as a result it was relegated to a lower priority. CIG chose not to deliver Star Marine 10 months late when they could in fact keep their "PU Alpha by end of 2015" promise, which they did and which was a much bigger deal than Rainbow Six In Space alpha testing. Also, "half the staff quit" is something that has never happened. The UK character art team did leave but that's hardly the fucking same. And, no, the founder, Chris Roberts, has not gone anywhere.
Also I don't mind the art team still working on nice looking ships, but the core dev team doesn't even have their shit together enough to produce a functional alpha, let alone a game, and we're 5 years in. elixwhitetail, how much money have you put into the game?
Kareah Station, and basically any time you're on foot shooting people in first person.
Alright, I'll check it out since I was in the game the other day and the only improvement I saw was guns in the gun store with massive pricetags. I'm genuinely curious now knowing they have the shooter part in.
elixwhitetail, how much money have you put into the game?
lmao why would I cooperate with you when you're trying to construct a narrative where I'm a brainwashed cultist? How about you substantiate any assertion you've made first? You've come in here, declared that it's impossible, and expect me to answer your questions when you're painting a manipulative narrative. I happen to be a lot more aware of the project than you, since I follow it and you don't, and this should come as no surprise. It's really funny seeing that fact used as a weapon to paint me as a hopelessly-biased obsessed fanboy, meanwhile you and your great ignorance are to be respected and taken as fact.
Alright, I'll check it out since I was in the game the other day and the only improvement I saw was guns in the gun store with massive pricetags. I'm genuinely curious now knowing they have the shooter part in.
Go into the Crusader/Port Olisar zone from the Universe menu (or the elevator in the back of your hangar), and you'll get into the large-world space zone that was added in 2.0. Once you leave the armistice zone of the starting station, weapons are hot and anytime you get out of your seat (ctrl+f), if you hit 1 you're now holding a weapon and able to shoot people. There are rifles and other bigger guns obtainable by a few ways; some are in Kareah. Security Port Kareah is the designated fps pvp station, so expect shoot-on-sight when you go there.
That graph is from June 2015. It is now March 2016. The game hasn't made any significant strides in those 9 months, what it has to show after 3 years in development is a very buggy alpha lacking a lot of the most important features. The game is quickly ballooning into a complexity that is simply unfeasible given their budget, no matter how substantial it is. And considering there's widespread reports that they've burned through most of their $100 million budget already due to in part Chris Robert's lack of cohesive direction, in part due to the incompetence of the project leads (which include his wife and his brother, for crying out loud), and in part because $100 million is simply not enough to cover the scope of what was promised.
I didn't realise Derek Smart was a member of these forums.
kareah also is the only place where you can grab the machine gun. otherwise your stuck with a pistol. i heard a sniper rifle and shotgun were placed in 2.3, but i dont know where to find those as i havent played 2.3 yet.
I'm just going to put this here for the record. This is the official feature list of what is actually playable right now. It's also slightly out of date because 2.3 was released on Friday and then everyone went home for the Easter weekend. 2.3 didn't add a ton of groundbreaking content, however; it does add two more fps weapons (electric shotgun and sniper rifle), along with the flyable Xi'An Khartu-al (Scout) and hangar-ready Starfarer (as seen at the beginning of this thread).
I didn't realise Derek Smart was a member of these forums.
I could link this to the actual Derek Smart, he's active in SA. But nah, there are far bigger whales out there who are a lot more entertaining. By my estimate (based mostly on how angry he is lol) elixwhitetail owns like 5-8 ships, so that puts him at what, $1000-$2000 spent in the game? There ought to be at least a dozen more guys in Facepunch who've thrown that kind of money in the game. The reason why that matters, is because you're not going to be able to convince somebody who has spent over $1k+ on internet spaceships that don't even exist yet that they didn't make a smart choice. $1k+ is an abnormal amount of money to spend on a single game and there is no way to justify such a ridiculous "investment" that could have been used for a couple of months worth of food. He has already fully convinced himself that this game is the greatest thing that will ever exist using his wallet, there's no debate to be had, any criticism to the development of the game is attacking the existence of his $1k+ worth of ships. And of course he is gonna defend his investment, any sane person would. Also since it's become very clear that you get all your information through Derek Smart's blogs, you should know that DS is nothing more than a self confessed troll with a superiority complex, and all of his "evidence" is contorted truth (like any good myth).
I didn't realise Derek Smart was a member of these forums.
You realize this is basically Godwin and is the ultimate strawman right O SHIT SOMEONE DOESN'T LIKE SC I'LL JUST IGNORE HIS ARGUMENT AND CALL HIM DEREK SMART CHRIS HAVE MORE MONEY
You realize this is basically Godwin and is the ultimate strawman right O SHIT SOMEONE DOESN'T LIKE SC I'LL JUST IGNORE HIS ARGUMENT AND CALL HIM DEREK SMART CHRIS HAVE MORE MONEY
I don't care that he doesn't like SC, and "you're an idiot for spending money on this" is not an argument.
You realize this is basically Godwin and is the ultimate strawman right O SHIT SOMEONE DOESN'T LIKE SC I'LL JUST IGNORE HIS ARGUMENT AND CALL HIM DEREK SMART CHRIS HAVE MORE MONEY
Normally I'd actually agree with you, because the shittiest hugbox corners of SC's backer community really do declare all criticism a Derek Smartism, and therefore automatically invalidated, which is retarded and murders the flimsy amounts of credibility left them among SC critics. There are definitely vald criticisms to be made about SC and denying them by screaming DS doesn't help anyone. ...but he pulls out accusations of incompetence by Chris and Erin Roberts and CR's wife Sandi, along with claiming they're almost out of money plus "nothing significant" has happened in nine months. Those are pretty much daily talking points by Derek Smart expressed verbatim. I asked him to back up his assertions and rather than defend anything he said, he demanded to know how much I've paid in so he can paint me as an invested sucker who's blinded by the sunken cost fallacy -- another DS card. If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, walks like a duck, sometimes it really is a duck.
So only one person on the planet can come to these conclusions?
Only one person comes to those conclusions based on zero evidence and loudly shouts them on the Internet to anyone who will listen; anyone who's just mindlessly repeating that person ain't gonna be able to support shit. As seen here. If someone can give me actual evidence, and not smarmy shitposting, of critical flaws in CIG's management or leadership, with proof of things actively happening now (no referring to Chris Roberts' track record with, say, Freelancer, because that's a totally fucking different situation where he had EA breathing down his neck with deadlines), let them give their evidence for everyone to see. When you're asked for evidence and your response is to instead try and trap the other person in an ad hominem, I have to assume their criticism came out of someone's ass.
Glad to see Scam Citizen artists are still being paid to pad their resumes to find work after CIG succumbs to the same scope creep as the rest of Roberts' games, maybe Erin can salvage it like with what Microsoft did with Freelancer. A lot of people don't remember how Wing Commander was a massive financial gamble at the time and had a budget far beyond games at the time typically had- they got lucky then but I don't think they'll get lucky this time. If only they would have developed their own engine like Braben and Frontier did.
That still doesn't make him Derek Smart. Literally every SC thing that has a comments section I always see the fanboys freaking out about him. He's around every corner. He makes multiple accounts! He's the fucking boogeyman!!!! Good to know you think an active member of facepunch, for 10 years, is really Derek Smart. Just waiting to shit on fearless leader Chris Roberts and his wife. Also fact is there's plenty of sources that say that SC is in trouble. Not necessarily good sources mind you but maybe big bang read them and believed them. Like that escapist stuff awhile back, maybe he read it and not the aftermath. And maybe he's just shit at arguing on the internet (gasp). And even without that Roberts hiring his wife in multiple positions (two of which are her fantasy, being on camera) is sketchy as fuck, especially when it took something like two years to reveal (rather, leak) that they were married. It's a fucking dumb argument / accusation to call everyone Derek Smart. You wonder where these cult accusations come from. If he's DS then I am too and you must be Roberts himself and wiggles is Sandi.
-missing the point-
He's not literally Derek Smart but it's pretty clear where he gets his info from. That's what's being really said. I'm slightly surprised that you couldn't figure that out. Sandi is the head of marketing for Star Citizen. $111mil+ says she just might be qualified for that job, so what if she's fucking married to the founder? Nepotism isn't a crime, and she seems to be doing a pretty good job at running the crowdfunding campaign. I invite you to show me evidence that she's a brainless bimbo taking credit from someone else. Derek accuses her of mass incompetence based on.... he said so. I've yet to see concrete evidence of incompetence among Star Citizen's founders.

You can find them through Kareah (rifle on racks), the investigation mission at the abandoned shipping facility (shotgun, in the hidden room that grants the 'good' ending), killing a lv5 wanted player (Sniper, spawns in your spawning room), or in wreckage around the asteroid field of Yela (all of them, including pistols for some reason) I'd love to see 'Star Marine' hit the table eventually but anything you can do outside of a ship is part of that development and it's coming along nicely compared to this time last year also shit son maybe it's a great thing to bring a megathread's users to a news thread so elix isn't the only one talking it up against a bunch of people actively trying to naysay everything, since being the person who pays the most attention to a subject is clearly a fanboy to disregard. All the good info comes from people who couldn't even tell there's been updates for 9 months
According to FP, I can assume star citizen is either going to be the greatest game ever made or the worst game ever made. There really is no middle ground with you guys is there?
According to FP, I can assume star citizen is either going to be the greatest game ever made or the worst game ever made. There really is no middle ground with you guys is there?
The projection is funny. I'd like you or anyone else to show where in this thread pro-SC posters stated that SC is going to be "the greatest game ever made" or anything superlative like that. Sure, we're enthusiastic and not predicting total doom, but that's far from zealots hoisting it up like the rest of the game industry can just suicide because SC is the perfect game. I see tons of misinformation, and also some valid subjective observations and legitimate opinions, in this thread, primarily from detractors. Or, put better by dai,
being the person who pays the most attention to a subject is clearly a fanboy to disregard. So if we're not DS himself then we're his cultists? Read his blog every day? Speaking of proofs I still never saw conclusive evidence that the whole escapist thing was a DS conspiracy as was widely claimed at the time. I didn't mention Sandi being the marketer. Even if I did it is questionable if you can attribute ALL that funding to just her. Arguably the momentum from the initial campaign and free press as a result along with word of mouth has gone a lot further. And while it's not illegal to hire family members (he didn't just refer her) it is often shady. And again while we can't say for sure if they tried to hide the marriage it was hidden (from the public/backers). Not even a small slip up of "my wife Sandi" or "my husband Chris". Really looking forward to see if she's a qualified actress too. [editline]27th March 2016[/editline] Dai keeping up with SC doesn't make one a fanboy. Rabidly defending it and seeing Derek Smart under you bed does.
was there actually any good ship with LTI and price <50 bucks ?
Also lol "maybe we should go to the megathread for backup BC of all these meanies!!!" It's literally just me now that big bang is banned. Vs you, wiggles, and elix. Try counting again.
