I don't think that Flatout is a series that can be adapted to the modern games market. The originals were great in their day, but games didn't have to have much to them back then. There isn't much room to expand the series other than utilising new technology for more on screen destruction, and we all know tech doesn't make a game great.
I disagree COMPLETELY. The games industry is trying way too fucking hard trying to complicate games and invent new genres that new games are a retarded mix of everything. We absolutely need more games that are so simply you can put the game in and play it right away without having to worry about tons of other shit. That's a facet of the late 90s-early 00s game industry that died out for a while. We need more Trackmanias, we need more Burnout 3's, we need more Flatout. We need less Forzas and we need less Need For Speeds. [editline]5th February 2017[/editline] I'm laughing my fucking ass off at this thread. A game that is technically sound, offers no grand promises, and is backed up with geniunely fun gameplay gets advertised and people lose their fucking minds. You guys are fucking suckers for shitty games and developers with silver tongues.

You're complaining about how gullible everybody is for "silver tongued developers" while complaining about people being sceptical at the same time.

If I wanted to play Flatout 2 I'd play Flatout 2. Not really interested in half-assed repackagings of the same old games, which by the way is what the modern games industry actually is and needs to stop being.
The car damage is pretty shit, basically like the older GTA games, but wow the environmental damage seems really good, even more dense than Wreckfest. No idea if I'll buy it or not but competition between these games is always good.
Not exactly shovelware, but eh, it's a game.
I'm pretty disappointed by the total lack of car deformation, frankly. You have genuine, serious racing games that are modelling that kind of thing now, not having it in a game tooled around destruction is a bit silly. [editline]6th February 2017[/editline] If they don't want car damage to affect handling, give all the cars roll cages or something silly like that. It doesn't need to be super realistic, but I want to smash my car up to the point that it's just the axles and engine, dammit.
FlatOut 2 still is one of the most fun LAN parties out there. I´ve been having LAN parties for years and me and my friends always end up playing for hours. FlatOut 3 was insultingly bad, but this looks.. decent? It kind of looks like a FlatOut 2/Ultimate Carnage mod.
Vote for returning race tracks: http://www.strategyfirst.com/FlatOut/# PC confirmed: [T]https://i.imgur.com/oYCIEjv.jpg[/T] FlatOut has been my favorite racing franchise as one of the finest examples of Finnish game development. Yet, I'm willing to give this small-budget team a break; because aside from expensive elements like damage modeling & licenced soundtrack, they're showing great effort in capturing the series' spirit - especially after the atrocity that was FlatOut 3. It's not something you quite realise it until you go back to BugBear's FlatOuts, but there's more to those crashes than the deformation. I respect their work is what I'm saying. As long as it's fun, I'll be satisfied with this small francise's continuation.

But indeed, I really hope they capture Flatout's spirit. I personally think they might not be able to, though. p.s. that page has been up ever since the August 2015 announcement
Wreckfest was promising until it stalled in early access for 3 years. Although they intend to begin monthly updates, it's not FlatOut without its definitive arcade elements.
Heard something about them nearing bankrupt.
Heard something about them nearing bankrupt.
That was an unconfirmed rumor. There may have been some truth to it, though, as one of their recent updates (the one where they announced that come february we'd be seeing a lot more updates to Wreckfest) did mention that they were looking for, and ultimately found a partner willing to invest into Bugbear
Even FlatOut 3 introduced modeled car damage at a later date. Come on now.
At a later date; and nothing special. Likewise, you can see stuff hanging off here at 0:26 & 0:38.
At a later date; and nothing special. Likewise, you can see stuff hanging off here at 0:26 & 0:38.
The point of the argument is actual chassis deformation, I think :v: The bodies are pretty rigid, with only hints of any significant damage Even then, the thing that worries me the most are the tidbits of car physics showcased in the video. I really hope to be proven wrong, and to be able to enjoy another Flatout game.
Bump, but the game comes out tomorrow Some gameplay has surfaced in recent days. Among highlights, some crude chassis deformation, what seems to be Carnage mode, some minor car customization (horn sfx and car paint), money management focused career (buy cars! sell cars!), 11 AI opponents and a Multiplayer menu
Asides from the strange car deformation it looks pretty much exactly like a proper sequel to Flatout 2 should look. Pretty surprised it didn't turn out to be some complete joke of a game considering it's from a developer that has practically no games of note under their belt.
Handlind looks nearly identical to FO1. Damage model seems iffy but if you know how FO2-s deformation works, it's nothing special. Looking solid. Now all that matters is the price.
Handling still looks a bit floaty, but it's a lot better than what I saw earlier I'm ready tbh
One more bump. The game is out - which means it's reviewing time! Reviews are kinda polarizing, with scores as low as 4/10 and as high as 8/10 being handled out. The handling model in particular seems to be quite the point of contention, with some sources stating it's nothing like the old Flatout games, as it is too light and arcadey, and others calling it unforgiving due to the heft of cars and understeering issues Here's a couple reviews : Playstation Universe review : 8 / 10 IGN Review : 6.6 / 10

Usually they turn out to be massive blunders.
