yea and what's your point?
it's about as well made as your average screw attack video
the special effects were not up to par
it's about as well made as your average screw attack video
so what?
the special effects were not up to par
if it takes you a year to release a bunch of clips from NES games stitched together and define a couple of terms then at least the production values better be high at least then you would have some excuse besides "I was busy beating super ghouls and ghosts to get footage for my research film" [editline]5th May 2013[/editline] Look, it's not about the production values, that's a joke. The point is that it's a video that goes "here's a what a damsel in distress is, here are some examples. That's bad." And Screw Attack puts out a top ten list that goes the same song and dance every what, week? I mean if she was releasing these all at once then sure, you could say she was working on all the other ones that required months of introspection and research, but it's been a month and nary a thing. Not a one. You have to admit that from a purely production based point of view that's just pitiful. Egorapter works faster than this.
you guys are forgetting that you don't know how long it took to make the video.
you guys are forgetting that you don't know how long it took to make the video.
But we do know the timespan in which a video of similar quality can be made.
But we do know the timespan in which a video of similar quality can be made.
so what? maybe the video was made in that same timespan?
you guys are forgetting that you don't know how long it took to make the video.
It took a year to get put up. Redlettermedia can edit and release an hour and half of film analysis every few months and that's not even the only thing they do. They even have sets and actors and stuff. Why does game analysis take so much longer and return so much less in terms of content
It took a year to get put up. Redlettermedia can edit and release an hour and half of film analysis every few months and that's not even the only thing they do.
so what? maybe the video was made in that same timespan?
Then why did it take her so long to release it? And if she has the ability to make the other parts at a similar speed why hasn't she?
yea and maybe half the series is done and just hasn't been recorded yet???
Then she probably would've uploaded it by now because there's no reason not to.
so what? maybe the video was made in that same timespan?
procrastinating for like, a year isn't better than taking a year to make a thing for me it's just a matter of, you say you're going to do something. so you should probably do it. especially when you get lots of money to do it.
idk have you guys ever made a 12(it's 12 right?) part series where you presumably have to play dozens(if not a hundred) video games and analyze them?
yea and maybe half the series is done and just hasn't been recorded yet???
Wouldnt it have to be recorded if half of it was done?
Then she probably would've uploaded it by now because there's no reason not to.
not if she hasn't recorded it or edited it...
yea and maybe half the series is done and just hasn't been recorded yet???
well if i were in her shoes i would say "hey sorry i haven't really said anything about the production of the series for like, a year i just need to record it so please subscribe to my webzone and stay tuned" but then that would call attention to the fact that I haven't really done all that much in a year and that would be embarrassing, so maybe i wouldn't do it i don't know
idk have you guys ever made a 12(it's 12 right?) part series where you presumably have to play dozens(if not a hundred) video games and analyze them?
Anita constantly reminds us that she's a gamer and she's a "professional pop culture critic". If anything it should take her even less time than a regular person.
Wouldnt it have to be recorded if half of it was done?
recording takes like...a day or two. editing takes a couple days depending on the work being done. most of the work in making an analysis series is devoted to...analyzing. she has to play the games, organize ideas, write scripts and theses, and make sure each part of the series ties in with the other parts.
idk have you guys ever made a 12(it's 12 right?) part series where you presumably have to play dozens(if not a hundred) video games and analyze them?
Ive played hundreds of video games, I can make you a 12 part series on games and analyze them. Not really fucking hard. Look at people like TB, he puts up videos daily, that are longer, all about games and news and also shoutcasts on the side. So why is it taken Anita so long for a few 12 minute long videos?
well if i were in her shoes i would say "hey sorry i haven't really said anything about the production of the series for like, a year i just need to record it so please subscribe to my webzone and stay tuned" but then that would call attention to the fact that I haven't really done all that much in a year and that would be embarrassing, so maybe i wouldn't do it i don't know
maybe she has already in her little kickstarter backers corner? are you a backer? those are the only people who really deserve status updates on the project since they are the ones who paid for it. [editline]4th May 2013[/editline] then do it. make your own series just to prove that anita is wasting her time then.
Ill get back to you when its done, but you still didnt answer me how someone like TB can put out consistantly higher quality and longer content, daily, on top of shoutcasting and streaming, than Anita can make a 12 part like 12 minute long series on video games.
idk have you guys ever made a 12(it's 12 right?) part series where you presumably have to play dozens(if not a hundred) video games and analyze them?
is that what she's doing is she playing through every single game in that big stack of games she bought cause that's a terrible idea, who thought that would ever be a good idea i really hope she isn't doing that, nobody should have to do that.
Ill get back to you when its done, but you still didnt answer me how someone like TB can put out consistantly higher quality and longer content, daily, on top of shoutcasting and streaming, than Anita can make a 12 part like 12 minute long series on video games.
because tb doesn't create video series and his videos aren't higher quality, they are glorified let's plays which take nearly 0 effort to produce. tb does his job well, but his work isn't the same in scope as producing a scripted analysis series. [editline]4th May 2013[/editline]
is that what she's doing is she playing through every single game in that big stack of games she bought cause that's a terrible idea, who thought that would ever be a good idea i really hope she isn't doing that, nobody should have to do that.
well if she wants to analyze them she has to play them. [editline]4th May 2013[/editline] what, is she supposed to talk about games she hasn't played? that would just get more more flak(and i think some people have accused her of not playing the games fully in part 1 anyways).
maybe she has already in her little kickstarter backers corner? are you a backer? those are the only people who really deserve status updates on the project since they are the ones who paid for it.
No, no i don't i read a really long post by someone who is talking about how she wasn't releasing any updates but i don't know i guess he was lying, people lie a lot it really does make sense to be really quiet and not tell anyone except your backers why you're taking a year to make a video series that isn't really all that complex so far maybe she could have talked about why she was taking so long to release the videos when she was on CNN
You have to admit that from a purely production based point of view that's just pitiful. Egorapter works faster than this.
nah i dont really care tbh it seems like a really inane and superficial criticism to make
nah i dont really care tbh it seems like a really inane and superficial criticism to make
i know but it's what you blokes were talking about, i just sort of followed up i thought we already talked about that first video anyway you and i
What could she realistically have done to improve production values further, anyway? She could have filled the video with green-screen and special effects, but they wouldn't have added anything. At the end of the day it's a video series informing people about how tropes are used in video games, there's only so much you can do with the format, regardless of how much money people have given you.
she was given a lot of money to play games and make a long video series analyzing the way women are portrayed in those games. that involves playing a lot of games. and the more games she plays the harder it is to make the series because it is more content she has to either include or remove from the series based on its importance or relevance. and afaik it's JUST her doing this. that's why i say it is quite understandable if she takes a while to make videos because assuming she is actually doing what she said she was gonna do, her workload will be absolutely massive and it will be done on top of whatever other responsibilities she has, including an actual job.
But that's a terrible idea. If she already has a thesis then she must have already done the required research. You don't say that violent movies make people violent, get the funding to write a book about it, and then start watching movies for the first time. You do that beforehand, that's how you get your thesis in the first place. And even then you only talk about what's relevant to the subject. If you want to talk about racial stereotypes in film you talk about Breakfast at Tiffany's, not Clones of Bruce Lee. You narrow your focus for a reason, because all you're trying to do is demonstrate something. Playing every possibly sexist game ever made is a silly thing to do.
