Alright so I've generally avoided this series so far despite it being shoehorned in to a lot of games I like, so now that an actual game is coming out on steam related I guess I should give it a look. Is there a reason the trailer for the game is a chick getting tentacle raped that can be explained without massive spoilers? :v:
i'm gonna be the first one to say just watch the movies if you want to enjoy some good animation that can explain the general plot and character development in a few hours (but also misses quite a few important ones).
otherwise if you have a lot of time to spare and don't mind b&w pictures you should read the manga.
the movies have pretty awful animation at times due to bad 3d cg as well.
i initially watched the show then read the manga. i personally think that's the best way to go.
also personally i like how in the show [sp]griffith's betrayal is a big surprise[/sp] rather than how in the manga [sp]it's an inevitable foreshadowed event[/sp]

Yeah that obtuse amount of shitty 3d was really fun to watch.
What's worse about those movies is the sheer amount of 2D art they actually did that didn't make the final cut because 3D is cheaper I guess.
a tonne of the budget of the films seemingly went into the [sp]eclipse[/sp] and it shows, its fantastic
but the rest of the films are really rough at more than a few times

I unfortunately got the [sp]eclipse[/sp] spoiled for me, I still thought it was one of the best [sp]heart-destroying betrayals that made me want to die[/sp] I've ever seen but I do wish I went in blind.

I've got the art book of the movies and there's just an endless amount of beautifully drawn moments and faces. Hoping there's a similar look for the game with some custom shaders just to get the effect right.

Well the first episode kind of opens with somebody saying [sp]"boy, it sure sucks since king griffith came to power"[/sp] so you kind of knew something was going to happen eventually based on the state of the world in the first episode which was Black Swordsman era before going to the Golden Age in episode 2 for the rest of the show.
My experience watching the TV series as a result was basically a long game of "Wait, so how does [sp]Griffith become medieval hitler?[/sp]".
you'd have to read/wacth the anime/manga

Better make like the LOTR books and start reading!

Either watch the anime or read the manga. Don't bother with the movies they're awkward to watch and arguably miss characterization that's quite critical. The anime also misses stuff out but it helps establish certain characters better.
But basically without spoiling, this proves they know exactly how to fucking destroy the fanbase mentally in a "we know what makes you tick" way. So far, so good.

tbh you should just read the manga first
the anime and movies both have their ups but miss out on some SUPER important shit

Read the manga, listen to the anime OST.
That's the Berserk way.
holy shit i think that's the largest amount of responses I've gotten to a post in a short time frame :v:
I think I'll probably go down the watch the anime -> maybe read the manga if I'm super into it. To date I've never read the manga for even the anime I've liked the most so I doubt it, but who knows.

You'll never be bored reading Berserk until you're caught up. But Miura is doing it monthly now.

i'll fucking believe that when all idolmaster games get deleted

Oh thank christ
imo this trailer is a bit in bad taste
slow-crawling tna shots of a graphic rape scene is pretty suss
That scene in the trailer is a defining part of the series and what drives certain characters

i am well aware of it's context. i'm a big berserk fan
i am questioning the pervy sexualisation of what is suppose to be a vile, horrifying event

i think it's more of a taunt - sexualising something that will be repulsive to fans (who root for guts anyway). it's meant to remind us of gut's anger. this is my interpretation.
that's how it's presented in the manga though - guts memories appearing as very sexualized scenes which just enrage him.
[editline]13th June 2016[/editline]
do you really think the teaser trailer for the game being guts most heartbreakimg moment isn't intentional?
[editline]13th June 2016[/editline]
i think it's meant to hit fans where it hurts (in a good way that will excite us for the game)
In terms of information that trailer said nothing more than "yup we are making a game"
Should've been a Platinum game imo

FROM Software*
a from software - koei tecmo - platinum game
FROM Software*
FROM doesn't make games where you play as Guts, they make games where you play one of the jobber knights he cuts in half

this is how i always play dark souls
At least in this context a Musou fits the world. It technically fit One Piece too, ironically, since the cast in that regularly defeat armies of pirates, marines and whatever else gets in their way, but Berserk loves its bloodbaths and slaughterfests when the action ramps up. And Guts is a man that's more than capable of taking on an entire army, albeit with likely grievous injury in the process given his reckless methods. Even when he was still sorta 'normal' before the shit hit the fan chronologically, he basically soloed a hundred men despite severely mounting injuries.
I don't think they set out to make a fan service-y trailer there, more likely it's just really meant to be the sexualised alongside the grotesque, which is something Berserk's done plenty over the years.
i haven't played Warriors games in the past but are they story driven games?
i haven't played Warriors games in the past but are they story driven games?
they're closer to "here's the scenario of the battle, now fight the battle"

It is the scene that marks the start of a new "era" in the life of Guts, so it makes enough sense.
they're closer to "here's the scenario of the battle, now fight the battle"
oh I would have perferd it to be more like MGR story and pacing then oh well more Berserk is always better though
I hope we get Skull Knight as a playable character.
Oh, and [sp]Rape Horse[/sp] fight?
Seeing how Warriors games have massive rosters, most of the characters you guys mentioned might end up playable and feel completely unique from the others.
It's one thing I always liked about Warriors games. No character feels like the other.
