Jimquisition: Batman Is Everything Wrong With Square Enix
You're going to have critics whatever you do.
I wouldn't go as far as to call anyone evil. Business is based on capitalism which in turn is fuelled by greed, and I wish some companies would stop using certain tactics to raise profits. DLC is the current moronic avenue for this, paying 20 for 4 maps from a pervious title in the series.
But I wouldn't ban it. Someone is clearly paying for this, I instead choose not to.
evil is a subjective term, depending on the person you ask people would categorize greed as evil.
Isn't he getting more wide?
Because he and his videos are stupid, pretentious, and overall whiney, and his titles are just click bait.
Oh nuu, gaming companies r evul and satanic!!1!
Even though I love Borderlands 2, and Skyrim.
Really I hate Jim because he's just this antithesis of Fun. His job is to enforce that every single game you play recently is tainted with sin, and therefore not worth anything.

Meanwhile regular people like me can still love Gearbox and Ubisoft for making certain fun and enjoyable games, while also acknowledging and ignoring the more poorer games.
His videos are pretty insightfull, don't ever think they are really pretentious(most of it is just the truth).. Perhaps a bit whiney but I don't agree on clickbait since he ALWAYS TALKS about the subject. It isn't bait if what he is providing is exactly what the title advertises.
Many game publishers are fucking stupid in business. Doesn't mean their games that they made or published aren't good or dont deserve to be played but it does mean that you shouldnt buy the game before it is out. And maybe wait for a pricecut with the COMPLETE EDITION. that is called voting with your wallet.
In Square Enix case, they deem games failures even though they sold millions of copies because of advertising budgets/engine developmentcosts.
Also, it isn't always about the poorer games themself BUT the way they fucking handle those. Like Watch_Dogs and Colonial marines. They just lie to everyone and try to entice people with preorders. And so alot of people get burned.
I do find it funny how you call him 'antithesis' of fun. Then people like Totalbiscuit are even more 'anti-fun'. He clearly enjoys and cares about the games but hates the way they handle the IP or/and the business models some companies use.
And I would also like to work in the Game industry. But does this mean I will ignore everything bad they do? No, of course not that would be so stupid.
sometimes SE makes decisions like they're aliens living under a rock on the moon or something
Wasn't a majority of the content in FF13-2 actually from the development of 13? As in they literally just happened to make an entire games worth of extra environments that even they couldn't shoehorn into the boring pointless meandering hallway that was the story?
And, just focusing on the art, their characters are abominable. Endless ranks of neon colored stern faced emotionless bishonen pop stars in art piece runway costumes fighting utterly nonsensical and silhouette devoid transformers robots in monstrously overdesigned yet underexplained locations.
It's Bayhem in design form. It's meaningless guff being heaved at the viewer to create the false perception of complexity and depth.
See, details aren't inherently bad. Details can be great when they're leveraged against simplicity in color, or intelligently applied line weight. Like, say, in Yoshitaka Amano's artwork. You know, the guy who did character design for FF before Nomura. Unfortunately his stuff is almost monochrome, and we can't have a final fantasy game that doesn't look like a melted bowl of lucky charms marshmellows, can we?

Oh get over yourself.
Jim's a fucking critic. He criticizes the industry because criticism is what he is meant to do. He isn't going to sit there and sing praises because that isn't what his fucking show is about. If that hurts your feelings, then oh well.
Jim doesn't hate everything in the industry. If he did, he would not play games. He just points out the faults because, well, somebody has too. He isn't being the fun police, he is just being a critic.
Pvt Martin, I suggest you drop some of the serious naivate you have about the industry.
I went to school with a large number of people who now work at a great deal of game design companies. I'm not a colleague of theirs so we don't talk projects, but I do get to commiserate on the negative aspects of both our jobs. There is a lot of negative things about being in the game industry, and working in that environment. There are trends that many people have noticed and criticized them for.
I want you to join the industry, and have a genuinely good time, I'm just saying don't expect it to be sunshine and daiseys in any AAA company. Things like Jim bring up are totally valid criticisms.
Final Fantasy 15 looks decent so far but it looks like more of an action game than anything else now.
It's weird, because Bravely Default, even if it shit itself halfway through, showed that there is still a huge audience for classic Final Fantasy and they don't need to make it less and less of an RPG with every passing game.

Uh, I would just like to input that Jim has an in-progress Let's Play of Skyrim on his channel right now.
It should be noted like before that Jimquisition's point is to talk about the shit in the industry. Just like how people watch ZP to listen to him rant on video games in the most odd metaphors possible. That's the point of the show. Jim himself is pretty funny and cool guy, his youtube channel is full of brilliant stuff and he's fantastic on podcasts. He's going to be on this weeks Co-optional too.

15 was, as he noted, originally Versus 13, sort of a spinoff game loosely related to the lore of the 13 trilogy but with its own world entirely. It's always been intended to be something of a sandbox action RPG, but development hell combined with indecisiveness led to the game being stuck between different ideas, designs, and concepts for ages. It was originally going to let you swap between playing the party members, so you could play as the magic sword spamming protag or swap to a guy who uses guns for third-person shooting and so forth. But now it seems they're sticking to one main character who can basically do many things.
Considering it's being made by Nomura, and Versus 13 / 15 has some uncanny similarities to Kingdom Hearts in terms of design, it shouldn't be a surprise that it's an action RPG at least.
