Because he and most of his race are slaves basically.
Oddworld was really good at being both camp and whacky, and also really really dark.
why is his mouth stitched shut?
Mudokons are all born from the Mudokon queen Sam, Sam is held captive by the Glukkons and the Mudokons are used as slaves, when they're born they have their mouths stitched shut so they can't cry.
The animations looks kinda stiff here and there but my nostalgia will blind me enough
Quite sure it was on purpose. The CGI looks detailed but still very barren and plain, which really gives the feeling of the PS1 CGIs. I prefer it like this than having some new fancy Blizzard style super CG.
Oddworld was really good at being both camp and whacky, and also really really dark.
I remember playing the demo thinking "Oh look at this goofy cartoony alien guy, seems like a happy kid's game... Oh, I just exploded by walking into a meatgrinder... was that my dismembered arm that just flew into the camera?"
