I wonder about the advantages of this system.
Wouldn't it make more sense for it not to have a bottom at all?
Its actually a safety thing, if you throw something in it that you don't want to throw away you can still pick it up or because they don't want you to throw something on fire on it.
Imagine how awkward this would have been if Harry was a mute
he would have vanished without a trace
forever to be never seen again

And some say his only meal he can eqt now is garbage.
Nice magic trick.
You're a wisard Harry!
How do they empty these? Do they have to lift the entire structure out of the ground, or is there a really really large garbage bag they can fish up from down there?
Is this one of those entrances to the Wizarding world.

We have similar things here, they open from the bottom for emptying

I didn't even know these things existed until now
Oh. I forgot. You're broken. I don't wanna play with you anymore.
Gooooddddbyyyyeee woooooddddyyyyyyy
Good chance of suffocating in these if there is rotten stuff in it
That looks really expensive for a trash can. Wonder if there are any cost savings with having to empty them less vs the cost of having to dig the hole, make the cool can.
Most recycling bins are like that here. They just fit more in than a normal trash can, so you empty it out less.

It is probably designed like that so the smell doesn't go out when you open it.
Yes.
The warning is that it's labeled as a garbage can and it's not recommended to insert people in it.
many dota players would disagree with you
I feel like the whole "it's a garbage can you shouldn't go in it" posts are very redundant.
Obviously you shouldn't be doing this shit but you don't exactly think that way when you're younger. I'm sure a good percentage of us have done really dumb things in the past, maybe even things that could have got us seriously injured or worse.
That's why we have "child proof" locks and what not.

completely agree. these kids are obviously teenagers, the whole point of being a teenager is to do stupid shit and learn from it.
of course, you want to stay away from stuff that could be potentially life-threatening, but luckily in this situation it wasn't the case. it was probably extremely horrifying for everyone involved, but 10 years from now it'll be one of those stories that always gets told.

Problem is that when it's closed, the bottom is open.

It's to prevent people shoving things in that are too big, everything you want to throw away has to fit in-between the lid and the bottom.
We have similar things in the Netherlands but the lid is a lot closer to the bottom so you can't jam big things in there(or small children)
Gotta admit it's nice to see a video where others actively try to help the person in distress.
