Sanding and trimming however, is not fun. If the hot water makes a cleaner edge, with less work required to make it safe. Then use the hot water method.
I'm kinda tempted to ask my housemates to keep their beer bottles now to try this. But I don't particularly feel up to forking the money out for a cutting tool.
