They tone down some of the language but I think overall it works fairly well. To me this is a cromartie high level dub.

I haven't seen the Japanese dub, but there's no way that it could have a better announcer.

If by fucked you mean the language is a little toned down and they reword/replace some of the more Japanese centred jokes to make them more understanding to westerners then sure. It's fucked.
Really though it's being done the same way the Cromartie High dub was done.

9/10 times you'd be right. While most English dubs are pretty horrible, I like the English dub for Space Dandy a lot more than the Japanese version. I feel the same way about Black Lagoon, Gurren Lagann and Cowboy Bebop.

Oh, good lord no, the GL English dub is terrible. Both Simon and Kamina are butchered and lame. I tried watching it after watching it subbed and it's super limp and unimpressive compared to the excitement and energy the Japanese cast puts into their performance. I hate Black Lagoon so I don't care and you're right about Cowboy Bebop.

you don't have to watch the previous episode, it's funnier with the context of this episode
there's basically no continuity between episodes of space dandy, hell [sp]they crew usually dies in the end of a 1/3 of the episodes anyway[/sp](minor spoilers i guess)
space dandy was made for america
it airs in america before japan
thats why i watch the dub
The dub works because it's not remotely serious just like the entire show. It doesn't dim the quality of the humor in any way and at times it heightens it because of how blatantly bland it can be.

For context, you only need the episode. There's really no continuity at all.
But still, watch the whole series because it's good.
