And imagine having a full barrage of rocket artillery coming at you with that sound

So I guess Battlefield Bad Company 2 wasn't far off from the real thing with their sound effects.

If BC2 and Battlefield 3 got something right, it was the sounds.
They were absolutely incredible, I'd love to hear this stuff used as background sounds in those Black Mesa surface maps where you're stuck in the middle of HECU and the Xen aliens duking it out.

I shouldn't have maxed the sound on everything plus with my 5.1 suround system with 340 bucks subwoofer :v:
the 130K54 is actually a pretty small gun though :v:
155K98 crew 4 lyfe.
I remember watching this video:
The incoming shell at 1:55 makes a terrifying sound.
Do you mean this video?

omg thank you
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the "whistling" you're talking about are the "pew" sounds, I think those are ricochets from shrapnel hitting all around, not necessarily shrapnel flying by. Like, if you've every played with a slingshot and shot a rock at an angle at the ground, you hear the same noise.
Take this video for example:

Though I guess shrapnel vibrating from ricocheting off of something would be pretty loud whizzing by, so it could be a combination of both.
