That still comes down to destroying the games because he believes they are morally wrong.
Destroying content because he disagrees with it.
So what if he deleted them from his hard drive instead? Would you say it's the same deal?
So what if he deleted them from his hard drive instead? Would you say it's the same deal?
The difference between a hard drive and a book is that one is a device that requires frequent manipulation and internal maintenance. A book is made for the single purpose of conveying it's contents. A CD/DVD it contains it's own content. A Hard drive however requires more maintenance and at times it is simply a space issue or that it is no longer needed by the user.
If it was deleted with express purpose that another person could not use it, knowing that it could not be recovered, then yes.
The content in this case is just a video game.
I hold books on a much higher regard than video games, especially with the immense history attached to books and its contributions to society as well as the negative stigma and side effects video games entail.
Of course you'll disagree however, seeing as you seem to highly value video games
Video games can be just as sophisticated and effective at telling stories as books, video game's just aren't as likely to do so, and books are. Since books have very little other ways to tell stories then, well, telling stories.
I believe he said "is not" as opposed to "is now."
ah, yeah that would make more sense...

That's one hell of a claim. I hope you realize how many people delete their games in an attempt to clear their gaming habits. I guess they're all committing an act no better than burning books. I see nothing wrong with believing that you should value time and I see nothing wrong with making an effort to stop wasting it.
It's clear that we aren't going to be changing eachother's views on the subject. I just thought I'd throw in my coin as well.

Alright then, but I do believe I accounted for that by mentioning that a book or dvd is an object dedicated to a single set of content while a hard drive constantly shifts due to it's usage and limits.
Either way I think we aren't producing much of worth.
i sincerely hope your chosen savior sends you to his hell when he saw you broke Shadow of the Colossus
A non-existence man in the heaven is more important than video games that actually can entertain you.
Just sell them you silly.
Its because he's on Xbox
apparently he never got around to even playing it :v:
If he had, he probably wouldn't have destroyed his video games in the first place.
Too bad for him he can't destroy digital copies and codes.
He's probably a fucking casual anyways
I would have been entertained if he microwaved them.
Two things. I agree completely that Video games have the same merit as books or other mediums. To disagree is to not acknowledge the unique part they place the player in and to overlook the countless books that are absolute shit.
Second, although book burning is a horrible practice, I do not think this holds the same value. Not because of anything inherent in the medium, but because this is on such a small scale. If it were to lead to a greater movement then maybe but this guy is just one loon, the same as comparing a youtube neo-nazi to the holocaust.
What a sad idiot.
He's gonna burn in the fires of boredom now.
I cringed big time when he crushed Halo Reach
There's a lot of sick muslims in the world, but this guy just takes the cake.
I still don't even understand why he's breaking all these CD's.
He should've just put 'em on E-bay, or at the very least just give them away.
Eternity is a long time, and insanity would come eventually.

Stuff like this makes me wonder how my life would've been if my parents didn't come to Sweden during the 80's.
My parents weren't religious back in Iran either but still, things would've been different.
Glad I'm not some brainwashed sucker like that guy.

Far from sick, stupid yes but I would think you would define someone who is sick as someone who is a terrorist or extremist not somebody that bends a couple video-games in half.
Book burning events like the bonfire of the vanities genuinely destroyed the only existing copies of many books. In this digital age, everything's backed up and mass produced a million times. Like you say, it has nowhere near the same impact.
[editline]27th July 2011[/editline]
Also, wait, did he have 2 copies of mass effect or does the game just come on 2 dvds on 360?
Probably was the 2 disk edition, where one disk is special features and second is the game.
"i mean think about it man created this. imagine what allah can give you in paradise"
