Oh cool, I did this the other day! My mother's mother died early on in my mom's life so she has very little pictures of her. A black and white picture surfaced recently but it was badly damaged.
After Photoshopping out the damages and folds, I decided to try and colorize it based on my mom's description of her.
My mom almost cried when see saw the final result and send it to her sisters immediately
why would anyone have an issue with someone colorizing a photo with a black person, and coloring that person with dark skin?
Let's just keep it at "dumb, failed joke".
I was exploring that subreddit and the photos that look like they came from today are amazing. This is the craziest one to me.

Colourised photos like this makes my brain feel like this photo was taken probably a few years ago, that the guy is a model and he's just got a photographer walking around with him taking photos of himself in places
Until you see the black and white copy and work out that 150 years ago, that man sat in front of the USS Saugus before he was hanged. It just puts a whole other layer on this image to me.

I think it's funny you can only really guess that this image is from that long ago by trivial aspects of it like the buttons on the abdomen area of his shirt and possibly the iron constraints on his hands and the loose hair on his shirt. If you looked past those buttons and possibly the hair on his shirt, you'd be more likely to mistake that shirt as a plain old 21st century long-sleeved shirt.

There's something weirdly beautiful about old school steel mills to me

None of these are colorized, eastern european steel is just stuck in 1950.
Just look at the soot buildup on the photo on the right. There's a good foot and a half of dust and soot on the roof of the little control booth there. I have nothing but respect for steel workers.
