The difference between Japanese and American animation
This is kinda funny considering that in most anime, 90% of the scenes have extremely minimal animation. There's usually like 1 or 2 scenes that are full animated and then they're really fucking nice, but most of the time it's just a still frame with either a panning camera or a mouth on a character moving.
and most of western television is a horde of terrible dramas with no writing
it doesnt make sense to compare a medium based on its worst (and even most popular) examples. Compare game of thrones and attack on titan for example, except game of thrones has wayyy more needless fanservice.

and animes
I've been meaning to watch ghost in the shell for years but that just convinced me. That fight scene was pretty fucking phenomenal.
I usually have zero interest in anime, but after watching that scene I watched the full film immediately after.
Did not disappoint.
I dislike anime based on the idea that most characters are the same damn person with different colored eyes/hair and different outfits give or take a few unique scars.
It all just looks too similar for me.
Looks like somebody's only watched three anime ever.
Go watch something like Doraemon, Astro Boy, or Crayon Shin-chan. They don't look anything like the "same damn [people]" you've seen.
EDIT: ITT we ignore the video's joke completely and argue about anime.

If you like the style of Samurai Jack, I would strongly suggest watching Secret of Kells.
It's gorgeous.

I've seen stuff that tried to do this. Most of it looked like absolute garbage.

fun fact: kells was made by cartoon saloon which is based in Kilkenny, Ireland. But a great deal of their staff live in other countries, working over the internet. I recall one of their inkers being from Mongolia.

They really need to continue this show and put it on [adult swim] so their limitations on violence and adult themes is relaxed

Because some people get worked up over fucking nothing.
I can't say one thing or the other about some things because it's an either love it or hate it situation and theres no inbetween.

Everyone else shits the bed when they try it
i like animation
why do i have to pick one nationality's shows over another? both countries and many others produce both shit and amazing work
The main problem I have with anime is the art style, I just find it too ugly. And the stories are usually cliche' as fuck and have annoying sidekick animals or weird creatures, and the forced comedic scenes are cringeworthy. I haven't seen a lot, but from what I've seen I can't find anything appealing to me. I still understand how other people like it though. Also western cartoons have problems, but I generally find that they have more variation in the artstyle and can be so radically different from one another.

Here's your problem. You're trying to judge a whole industry by a few pieces of it (and they were most likely shit anyway)
Kara no Kyoukai is one of my favorite movie series I've watched recently. Excellent art, music, and story.

Can't really find anything without spoilers since it's old.

I used to hate the artstyle of anime but then I realized I spent all my time fapping to hentai so it was a total oxymoron and then I started watching some anime and realized it's all not that bad, just stay away from the moeshit and you'll enjoy it.

The variations in anime can be seen in its animation instead of the art style. Most animation directors usually correct the art style, but not the timing of the key animators. It's mostly the appeal behind anime for me; some animators create realistic scenes, surrealistic scenes, or a mix of both.
If you want quality/variation, try skipping the shows. Watch the films instead, especially if they come from your favorite director (Mamoru Oshii, Satoshi Kon, Hayao Miyazaki, etc). The directors tend to have good writing and storyboarding. They also hire the most of the animators who have worked in their previous films.

Annoying sidekicks are in every media for some reason. I mean, fuck, an annoying sidekick is about as much of a given in any movie/show than a random unneeded love interest.
All of this somehow reminded me how fucking creepy Aeon Flux was.

I don't even know where to begin with something like this. Watch something that isn't shit? Find a show that's actually meant to be thought provoking, like Ergo Proxy or Ghost in the Shell, or find something that isn't pandering to the lowest denominator while still being a fun watch, like Baccano! or Cowboy Bebop.
Statements like that are not only wrong, they're stupid.
Seriously though. Anime has alot more diversity in its genres and storytelling, not to mention more ridiculous action and less puritanism.
Western shows almost always seem to be episodic adult comedies or childrens shows. We don't really see many shows that develop epic adventures that progress over the course of many episodes. Its almost always episodic shows that only reference previous episodes.
Thats just my opinion.
Adult swim stuff (Morel Orel, Archer, Boondocks), Recess, Megas XLR and Adventure time are pretty exceptional shows. These either deviate from the norm or perfect it.
The only conflict between the two comes from these two things: "lol anime is for gay weebs and losers" and "i watched a few episodes of DBZ ten years ago so i think all anime is the same".
It's like saying that all movies are the same and are all filmed the same way.
I wish Disney never cancelled Motor City

If you can manage to find all 20 episodes somewhere, watch it.
can't believe nobody has posted this anime masterpiece yet
